Executive Diploma in Business Leadership (EDBL)

The Executive Diploma in Business Leadership (EDBL) was introduced in 1996 in


response to the changing needs of organisations. The programme provides business
executives and senior managers with a rounded development experience enabling
them to grow their leadership skills, business knowledge and self-confidence in
preparation for future career challenges

The program comprises eight intensive three-day modules designed to equip


delegates with skills and competencies to find new ways of responding to the
challenges facing them.The modules are presented at a rate of one module per month
over one weekend between Friday to Sunday.

Programme Coverage
The competencies to be developed and demonstrated fall into the following seven
broad areas:

Project Report:
Delegates will be required to carry out a research-based management project and
submit an acceptable Business Project Report which should be at least 6 000 words
in length and should earn a Grade C or higher.

Who should attend


 Senior executives, policy makers, decision takers
 Those being groomed to take over senior corporate positions
 Those in senior management who closely assist the CEO
 Leaders in any kind of business environment, commercial or industrial, or
those being earmarked for a senior leadership or executive position.

Delegates wishing to attend selected modules may do so and will receive an


attendance certificate only after they have successfully completed the relevant
assignments. Modules may be attended in any order.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following to be admitted to the programme.

 A minimum education standard of 5 O level subjects or the equivalence,


 currently occupy a leadership post in their organisation,

Qualifying for the Diploma
Delegates who attend eight modules submit eight work-related assignments which
satisfy the standards of the Institute, pass a written examination and submit an
acceptable research based Project Report will be presented with the Institute's
Executive Diploma in Business Leadership.

Methods of instruction
Each module consists of instruction in the form of lectures, practical exercises, case
studies, group discussions, and videos. The emphasis is on active learning and
delegate participation.

Programme Design
The program is designed to enable senior and middle-level managers, administrators
and technical professionals e.g. accountants, engineers, medical doctors, to improve
and widen their knowledge of Business Functions and Management Techniques and
to obtain a working knowledge of management disciplines outside their own special
fields.

It equips managers with practical management skills while at the same time providing
them with firm theoretical grounding in specific subject areas. It consists of two eight-
module certificate programmes:

Certificate in Business Functions


Certificate in Management Techniques.

Programme Outline
Each Certificate consists of eight two-day modules presented at the rate of one per
month over eight consecutive months. The two Certificate programmes may be
attended concurrently or consecutively.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following to be admitted to the programme.

currently occupy a management post in their organisation,

 Consideration may be given to mature applicants who may not have O levels,
provided they have occupied a management position for a minimum of 5 years.

 Those being groomed to take over management positions

Qualifying for the Diploma


In order to qualify for each certificate, delegates will be required to:

 Attend all eight modules


 Present a written assignment in respect of all eight modules, of which six
assignments must earn a grade C or better
 Pass a written examination

In order to be awarded the Diploma in General Management; delegates will be


required to obtain both the Certificate in Business Functions and the Certificate in
Management Techniques. In addition, they will be required to carry out a research
based management project related to their normal work, and to submit an acceptable
Project Report, which should be at least 4000 words in length and earn a grade C or
better.

Method of Instruction
Each module consists of instruction in the form of lectures, practical exercise, case
studies, group discussions and videos. The use of active-learning techniques is
emphasized .The modules are presented by different instructors, each being a subject-
matter specialist with professional management experience
