You have administrator privileges on the Oracle Enterprise Manager server.
You have the root user credentials on the NetApp storage systems or proper privileges to
manage the NetApp storage system plug-in as described in Creating a custom user for managing
the storage systems from Oracle Enterprise Manager.
See the Deploying Plug-Ins section in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Administrator’s
Guide for additional information about deploying plug-ins on the OMS.
2.8 Creating a custom user for managing the storage systems from Oracle
Enterprise Manager
A custom user account is required to manage the NetApp storage systems from Oracle Enterprise
Manager. The custom user must have necessary permissions to access the storage systems.
If you were already using an earlier version of NetApp storage system plug-in, the user will exist. You
must assign additional privileges to the user to view all the metrics supported in the latest version of
NetApp storage system plug-in. For information about how to assign additional privileges, see Assigning
privileges to the existing user for managing storage systems operating in 7-Mode
The role, group, and user names used to illustrate creation of the custom user are only
examples. You should use names that reflect the needs of your organization.
1. Log in to the NetApp storage system with root credentials by using Secure Shell (SSH).
2. Create the roles for the custom user by running the following command:
useradmin role add oempluginrole -a login-*,api-system-get*,api-volume-
list*,api-aggr-list*,api-snapmirror-get-status*,api-snapshot-reserve-
list*,api-disk-list*,api-qtree-list*,api-license-list*,api-perf-
object*,api-snapshot-list-info*,api-nfs-status*,api-cifs-status*,api-net-
ifconfig-get*,api-quota-report*,api-snapshot-list*,api-ems-autosupport-
log*,api-cf-status*,api-snmp-get*,api-volume-clone-split-estimate
3. Create the group for the custom user by running the following command:
useradmin group add oemplugingrp -r oempluginrole
4. Create the user by running the following command:
useradmin user add oemplugin -g oemplugingrp
You are prompted for a password when you add the user for the systems. This password must have
at least eight alphanumeric characters. The user “oemplugin” has been created with minimal
privileges to access the NetApp storage systems
5. Log in with this user’s credentials when you register this storage systems with the Oracle Enterprise
Manager plug-in.
For more information about the useradmin command, see the Data ONTAP Commands:
Manual Page Reference.
Assigning privileges to the existing user for managing storage systems operating
in 7-Mode
If you were already using an earlier version of NetApp storage system plug-in, the custom user will exist.
However, if you have imported the latest version of NetApp storage system plug-in, you must assign
additional privileges to the existing user to view all the metrics.
1. Log in to the NetApp storage system with root credentials by using Secure Shell (SSH).
2. Assign the privileges to the custom user by running the following command:
useradmin role modify <oempluginrole> -a login-*,api-system-get*,api-
volume-list*,api-aggr-list*,api-snapmirror-get-status*,api-snapshot-
reserve-list*,api-disk-list*,api-qtree-list*,api-license-list*,api-perf-
object*,api-snapshot-list-info*,api-nfs-status*,api-cifs-status*,api-net-
ifconfig-get*,api-quota-report*,api-snapshot-list*,api-ems-autosupport-
log*,api-cf-status*,api-snmp-get*, api-volume-clone-split-estimate
where <oempluginrole > is the role that was assigned to the existing user.
2.8.2 Creating a custom user for managing Storage Virtual Machines (SVMs)
This process enables the storage administrator to create a custom user for Oracle Enterprise Manager
plug-in user to manage the NetApp Storage Virtual Machines (SVMs).
The custom user is usually given the read-only privilege. However, the user with read-only privilege
cannot view Network Interface Rate, Protocol Rate, SnapMirror, and Volume Performance Statistics
Installation and Administration Guide | 18
metrics because of a limitation in clustered Data ONTAP 8.2.x or later. The user must have admin
privileges to view these metrics.
1. Log in to the clustered Data ONTAP storage system with cluster administrator credentials by using
SSH.
2. Create the custom user.
a) To create the user with read-only privilege, run the following command:
security login create -vserver <vserver_name> -username oemplugin -
application ontapi -authmethod password -role readonly
b) To create the user with admin privilege, run the following command:
security login create -vserver <vserver_name> -user-or-group-name
<oemplugin> -application ontapi -authmethod password -role vsadmin-
readonly
where <vserver_name> is the name of the Storage Virtual Machines (SVMs) for which you are
creating the user.
2.8.3 Creating a custom user for managing clustered Data ONTAP storage
systems
This process allows the storage administrator to create a custom user for Oracle Enterprise Manager
plug-in user to manage the clustered Data ONTAP storage systems.
1. Log in to the clustered Data ONTAP storage system with cluster administrator credentials by using
SSH.
2. Create the custom user by running the following command:
security login create -vserver <cluster_name> -username oemplugin -
application ontapi -authmethod password -role readonly
where, <cluster_name> is the name of the clustered Data ONTAP storage system for which you
are creating the user.
1. Log in to the parent NetApp storage system of the vFiler with root credentials by using SSH.
2. Switch to vFiler context using the following command:
vfiler context <vfiler_name>
3. Create the roles for the custom user by running the following command:
useradmin role add oemvfileruserrole -a login-*,api-system-get*,api-
volume-list*,api-aggr-list*,api-snapmirror-get-status*,api-snapshot-
reserve-list*,api-qtree-list*,api-license-list*,api-snapshot-list-
info*,api-quota-report*,api-snapshot-list*,api-ems-autosupport-log*
4. Create the group for the custom user by running the following command:
useradmin group add oemvfilerusergrp -r oemvfileruserrole
5. Create the user by running the following command:
useradmin user add oemvfileruser -g oemvfilerusergrp
You are prompted for a password when you add the user for the systems. This password must have
at least eight alphanumeric characters. The user “oemvfileruser” has been created with minimal
privileges to access data of the NetApp vFiler storage systems.
6. Provide this user’s credentials when you register the vFiler storage system with the Oracle Enterprise
Manager plug-in.
Note: You should use only these custom user credentials to register NetApp storage system targets
to the OEM. These custom users only have minimal read privilege to access the NetApp storage
system.
2.12 Installing and configuring the SAN Discovery Server on Oracle Host
To monitor a SAN host target, you must first install and configure SAN Discovery Server on the host
running the Oracle database on the NetApp SAN device.
Note: The SAN Discovery Server is not required for monitoring databases on NetApp NFS shares.
In addition to general information about the Data ONTAP version, the hardware configuration, and overall
storage utilization, the following information is available:
A time series of the CPU utilization on the systems
A time series of the rate per second of Common Internet File System (CIFS) and Network File
System (NFS) operations performed by the NetApp storage systems
Disk I/O operations (KB/sec)
Network I/O operations (KB/sec)
A chart of active, spare, and failed disks on the systems
In addition, the NetApp storage systems operating in 7-Mode home page provides a list of recent
incidents, problems, and alerts from the storage systems and links to reports that provide more

13 Corrective actions
Corrective actions allow administrators to specify automated responses to alerts or policy violations.
Corrective actions ensure that routine responses to alerts or policy violations are automatically executed,
thereby saving administrator time and ensuring problems are dealt with before they noticeably impact
users. You can set corrective actions for both warning and critical severities.
Corrective actions are not defined, by default. You can define correction actions for different performance
metrics. When the performance metrics value reaches the threshold value, the corrective action is
automatically initiated.
