Connectors

By: Chad Johnson

⅛” Connector
1/8" connector, it is a plug and socket widely used for analog audio signals in
portable devices
¼” Connector
For telephone connections, see RJ-11. (2) Also called a "quarter-inch" or "6.3 mm"
plug and socket, the phone connector is widely used to connect microphones,
headphones and musical instruments to audio equipment. Phone connectors and
their mini-phone counterparts are commonly called "audio jacks."
BNC Connector
A type of connector commonly used in television production. The female and male
versions lock together securely with a simple 1/4 -turn twist.
Cable end connector
A connector found on the end of a length of cable.
Cannon connector
The XLR connector was invented by James H. Cannon, founder of Cannon
Electric in Los Angeles, California (now part of ITT Corporation), and for this
reason it was sometimes colloquially known as a Cannon plug or Cannon
connector.
Chassis mount connector
A connector found on the end of a length of cable.
connectors/F-connector
Connectors-metal devices that attach cables to equipment or to other cables.

F-connectors-a type of connector that carries an RF signal and is commonly found

on the back of consumer VCRs and television
Female connector
A female connector is a connector attached to a wire, cable, or piece of
hardware, having one or more recessed holes with electrical terminals inside, and
constructed in such a way that a plug with exposed conductors ( male connector
) can be inserted snugly into it to ensure a reliable physical and electrical hole
FireWire connector
External connector, similar to a USB port, that provides a high-speed
connection between a computer and peripheral devices.
HDMI connector
HDMI is a proprietary audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed video
data and compressed or uncompressed digital audio data from an
HDMI-compliant source device, such as a display controller, to a compatible
computer monitor, video projector, digital television, or digital audio device.
Male connector
A male connector is a connector attached to a wire, cable, or piece of hardware,
having one or more exposed, unshielded electrical terminal s, and constructed in
such a way that it can be inserted snugly into a receptacle ( female connector ) to
ensure a reliable physical and electrical connection .
Micro HDMI connector
Micro-HDMI (HDMI type D) is a miniaturized version of the High Definition
Multimedia Interface specification. The format was designed to combine audio
and video into a single digital interface small enough to connect to smartphones,
tablets and other mobile devices.
Mini connector
A connector that is ⅛ in diameter and single-pronged.It is most commonly found
on headsets used with MP3 players and other personal audio devices
Phone connector
A connector that is ¼ in diameter and single-pronged,with a little indentation near
the end of the prong. This type of connector is commonly found on the cord used
with large stereo headphones. Also called ¼ connector.
Phono connector
A connector commonly found on the back of quality home entertainment system
components. The female phono connectors is usually a chassis mounted
connector. The male phono connector is usually a cable end connector with a
single, center prong surrounded by a shorter crown.
PL259 connector
PL-259 Connectors, Adapters & Reducers for Ham Radio Applications.

The PL-259 is also known as a UHF connector with the common male/female
variants.
RCA connector
An RCA connector is a plug and a jack designed for use with coaxial cable for
frequencies ranging from the very lowest up to several megahertz. An RCA
connector is sometimes known as a phono plug and jack. ... RCA connectors
are suitable for audio-frequency (AF) applications.
S-VHS connector
S-Video. ... S-Video (also known as separate video and Y/C) is a signaling
standard for standard definition video, typically 480i or 576i. By separating the
black-and-a white and coloring signals, it achieves better image quality than
composite video, but has lower color resolution than component video.
T-connector
A tee connector is an electrical connector that connects three cables together. It
is usually in the shape of a capital T. It is usually used for coax cables and the
three connector points can be either female or male gender, and could be
different or the same standard, such as F type, BNC or N type.
USB connector
A universal serial bus (USB) connector is a connector between a computer and
a peripheral device such as a printer, monitor, scanner, mouse or keyboard. It is
part of the USB interface, which includes types of ports, cables and connectors.
XLR connector
The XLR connector is a style of electrical connector, primarily found on
professional audio, video, and stage lighting equipment. The connectors are
circular in design and have between three and seven pins.
Y/C connector
C. Color (Chrominance) The shells should be connected together by an overall
screen/shield. However, the shield is often absent in low-end cables, which can
result in picture degradation. S-Video (also known as separate video and Y/C) is a
signaling standard for standard definition video, typically 480i or 576i.
Y-connector
a device in the shape of the letter Y that connects the end of one piece of tubing to
two outlets.
