Gregori High School

Swimmer’s Contract

Welcome to the Jaquatics Family!

Being a Student Athlete is a privilege and with privileges come responsibilities. As one of our athletes, we
expect that players will comply with the following expectations and responsibilities.

1. Athletes will perform to the best of their abilities as students.

You are a student first and an athlete second. Failing to complete assignments, submit work, or
maintaining a passing grade, indicates an inability to handle the load of being a team member as well as a
student. If teachers are not satisfied with your work ethic in the classroom, you may be suspended from
competition until improvement is shown.
- Any player who has missed classes during the day will not be permitted to compete in the
afternoon games/meets.
- Athletes should respect teachers and other students, demonstrating cooperation and responsible
behavior at all times. Behavior should not interfere with the learning opportunities of others.

2. Athletes will fully commit to their sport and team.

This includes:
a) Committing to all practices, meets, and team experiences.
- Missing practices or meets adhere to the following:
- ⅓ of letter grade deduction per missed practice after 2 missed practices:
- Examples: Joey missed 4 practices; his grade for swimming will be an A-.
: Kelly missed 6 practices; his grade for swimming will be a B
b) Missing a swim meet may result in a removal from the team (coaches discretion).
c) Should an athlete miss a practice or a meet without any notification to the coach, the athlete will be
removed from the team.

3. Athletes will always conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and be respectful.
a) Athletes will display respect for coaches, teammates, game officials, and opponents.
- Profanity will NOT be tolerated on the pool deck.
d) Athletes will take good care of all equipment issued for player use.
c) Should an athlete lose or damage a piece of equipment, the athlete is held financially responsible for
the equipment they lost and/or damaged.
c) Athletes will always demonstrate good sportsmanship.
- “showboating” “taunting” and/or bad sportsmanship will NOT be tolerated.

Gregori athletes win with class AND lose with class!

4. Bullying and Hazing will NOT be tolerated at any time.
- Athletes will be removed immediately from the program if any instances of hazing/or bullying
occur.

5. Social Media

We, as coaches, understand the role that social media plays in our athletes’ lives. Athletes are expected to,
much like on a daily basis, conduct themselves professionally and respectfully on social media.
Athletes will not post any content which includes:
- negative comments about a teammate, coach, parent, or opposing team.
- illegal activity (includes drinking/drug use).
- anything which demonstrates disrespect toward another.
Social media is a powerful tool; let’s use it for the positive.
Remember, as an athlete, you are representing yourself, your team, your coaches, your parents, and
Gregori High School. Your conduct and sportsmanship should always have a positive reflection.

6. What to expect for Swim Meets

Swimming consists of two levels: fresh/soph and varsity.
1) All athletes trying out for swimming will be kept, regardless of level.
2) All swimmers will be in a minimum of 2 events per meet (maximum is 4).
3) Should a 9th or 10th grade athlete be asked to move up to varsity, the coach will communicate with the
athlete and parent(s). The decision to move up will be a mutual agreement between all parties.
4.) Athletes can REQUEST certain events, but placement is at the coach’s discretion.
5.) ATHLETES MUST STAY FOR THE WHOLE MEET! NO EXCEPTIONS!
- leaving without permission will result in removal from the team.

7. Club Swim/Water Polo Team Athletes

As coaches, we understand that we have several athletes who swim or play water polo year-round for a
USA Swimming/Water Polo affiliated team.
- Communication needs to happen with the athlete’s coach to clear expectation/guidelines for these
athletes.
*Proof of USA Swimming/Water Polo membership and practice attendance will be required.*
