ESSAY ON HOW TO CONDUCT ONESELF-RELATED SEMINAR

On November 26, 2018 a seminar was held inside the high school multi-
purpose hall in New Era University where students and teachers were gathered
to tackle the topic on the upcoming immersion. The ‘immersion’ or ‘on the job
training’ as other people say, are for graduating students (in our cases, for
grade 12 students) who are ready to experience and face reality on having an
occupation; who are ready to learn about different fields of work; and who are
ready prepare on what is yet to come. Thankfully, Brother Carlo Rufo, the
guidance counselor of the school, provided students advices and tips on how to
succeed the first experience of the jobs given.

Varieties of characteristics were introduced to students which fall under

the category of ‘must have’. These are crucial qualities individuals must
possess such as hard-work, initiative, knowledge, keen awareness, and
especially above all is attitude. Having a good behavior at work results to 100
points which is why this particular trait is encouraged (even though one must
really have this particular trait without even telling so). Having the respect for
one’s superior is good work etiquette especially to one’s characteristics. Once
the individual possesses this trait, it is said that one can achieve plenty things.
Hard work does not abandon success that is why being an industrious being
can lead him or her to a bright future. Creativeness, awareness, initiative, etc
as well gives aid to students that functions different from each other. The
information provided above is poof of the significance of the seminar which are
said to help and give students the advantage to fully become aware on what
should be done to not only impress one’s superiors but to prove the student’s
potential in the future.

BASILIO, KRISTOFER ANGEL G.

Before we start our work immersion, we had a seminar with Bro. Carlo
Rufo about Work Ethics. He first discussed to us what is the work immersion
and what is the purpose of it. Then, he discussed about work ethics that we
needed to know to be able to make our work properly. Bro. Carlo also
discussed punctuality, because it is so important to be on time. He also
discussed about using gadgets because it can be a distraction for us. We
should also wear our proper attire in the work place or we must follow what the
supervisors required us. Communicate clearly and professionaly. Do not shout,
show some respect to your co-workers/employee, supervisors and staff's. And
also, he discussed about the confidentiality of the company that we should
keep. All of those behavior must be followed by us students because we're
working outside and we're going to deal with other people that we need to
respect and obey our immersion supervisors and staff's. By following those,
work immersion can be fun and you can learn a lot and can boost our
confidence also because of the experience.

CARLOS, ROVICA ZHAINE A.

What is the purpose of doing work immersion for students? What are the
do’s and don’ts that we must follow before deploying us? What are the work
ethics? How does this can enhance our skills on interaction and
communication to other people? Do we get to use what we learned from work
immersion in the future? All of these were answered in the seminar that Bro.
Carlo Rufo had led before starting our work immersion. With these knowledge,
we got comfortable doing our work. The seminar is a big help for us. We were
taught how to conduct ourselves in work, to be on time always, to respect co-
workers and bosses, to be professional at all costs, and to interact and
communicate to develop human relations to our co-workers and bosses.

DEGUZMAN, ELOISA LLANE G.

"When a student is competent enough he will be able to do things
successfully." These were the words that pinned on my mind during our Work
Immersion Seminar. Work Immersion is part of the K to 12 program that aims
to train and orient students about the work and their future career. We,
graduating students of NEU are fortunate because our school did not fail to
assess us through a seminar where I have learned many things that are useful
not just for my immersion but also to the next jobs that I'll be having in the
near future.

According to our speaker, Bro. Carlo Rufo, "on the job training" or work
immersion is very important not just to teach students on their chosen career
but also to show students the reality of working. The students will be exposed
to the actual work, so it allows those with no experience to work and to learn at
the same time. Work Immersion also helps the trainee to learn more about his
chosen field and practice what he has learned from the school.

I used those things that I've learned and apply it on my immersion where
I was able to handle situations properly and to know how to socialize well with
my colleagues.

LAYUG, CHRISTINE JOYCE L.

LEARNING & ACHIEVEMENT / ISSUES & CORRESPONDING SOLUTION

During my immersion for two weeks I was able to learn different things
(although working in a different field made it a bit difficult) like filing
documents to its corresponding category, listing down miscellaneous files,
calculating the percentages of price materials, and etc. With these activities I
was able to develop some of my skills such as mathematical skills,
communication skills, critical thinking skills, and other skills that are very
useful when it comes to occupation. The tasks offered to me may be a bit far
from my field but it was able to help my minor abilities to polish up.

I was able to achieve varieties of things during my immersion but even

with the immersion over, there are still many achievements yet to reach. A big
thanks to this experience that I was able to practice my human relationship
and push away my shy and awkward phase, and with that out of the way I did
my best to be confident as I can to act as professional as I can be. Another
thing that I achieved was connecting deeply with my classmates that before I
wasn’t even close with and because of this two week job experience it helped
me gain the philosophy of understanding situations and perspective. I’m
thankful to my superiors for the knowledge they imparted with us and for all
the memories they have shared with us because without them, we wouldn’t be
able to achieve success in our immersion.

There were no major issues while working in our field but only some
minor issues regarding one’s task. Some of my issues regarding work were not
knowing where to categorize a certain file that made me ask a lot on how to do
it. My teachers said before the immersion that it is ok to ask but of course one
must know how to solve general problems and with that thought in me I was
able to solve and list files properly according to their respective categories.
Another was when working with Engr. Wendell, I know myself that I am not
that good when it comes to mathematics so when Engr. Wendell provided me a
task relating to calculation, I doubted myself if my system was correct but then
I remembered something that always come to me at times was that “one must
believe in oneself and that it is ok to make mistakes especially if it soon results
to success.”

Grateful for the experience we had abled me to cooperate more effectively and
remembering them will help me gain more advantages.

BASILIO, KRISTOFER ANGEL G.

November 26, first day of our work immersion. I was so nervous because

I don't know who they are and how I am going to have a good relationship with

them but when they introduce themselves, I can see their eyes how willing they

are to teach us on what they are doing. As day passed, I learned a lot of things.

I learned how to manage and discipline my self more than I used to. I learned

when to use gadgets and do first the task given. I also learned that being

responsible is one of the most important because irresponsibility in doing tasks

will not give you a good outcome. I also learned that where I'll go,

professionalism is important and I can say that there is an improvement and

those improvement that I achieved will surely be useful and I'll apply it to

myself as an appreciation to those who taught me these and for myself to

improve.

As days goes by, I felt the frustration. Before I open the door of the

company, there is a bad feeling that I can't even tell anybody about it. Im

totally scared to express myself because during the immersion days, I'm

actually suffering. The anxiety affects me and thinking negative thoughts that

doesn't even give any good result and just cause me to doubt myself anf loss

my confidence to the point that I noticed myself changing and not doing things
with enjoyment. I am so quiet, doing things on my own and rarely speaking,

always thinking and telling myself frequently that I must not bring the problem

during the immersion and just enjoy while learning and doing tasks. Until the

day that we students are gathered because its lunch time and we had e deep

talks about it. I'm glad that I felt the willingness of them listening to me and so

grateful to have someone to cheer me up and help me to overcome the problem.

And that day started to make myself presentable and always smile in doing

task and in communicating my co-workers and staff's. Some staff's comfort me,

not totally but they given me some tips and it helped me even more and push

me to keep going no matter what. On our last day of work immersion, the

supervisor Ma'am Dianne told us to write down our thoughts and what can we

say about the company and some suggestions. After that, one of the

supervisors wrote a feedback that can help me grow. I am glad of those people

that I met, I am glad how they accepted me. How they guide me. And because

of that, I overcome and boost my confidence and I am proudly saying that this

is one of my achievement and considered it as a challenge in dealing with other

people. You just have to be yourself, trust yourself, be responsible and show

some respect wherever you go for you to have a good relationship with them, to

feel the enjoyment, and end up being successful in life.

CARLOS, ROVICA ZHAINE A.

In our two weeks immersion, it was hard at first because we were

adjusting but eventually we got comfortable in our workplace. Even though our

work is not related to what I will pursue in college, I still learned a lot of things

that I can use in the career that I will pursue. They taught us how to do

vouchers, filings, and postings. They also taught us how their company works,

what their goals is, and how they start they’re company.

When the engineers and others were brainstorming about their projects,

we were listening to learn. They also teach us how to do payrolls and to log

expenses and incomes that are in and out of their company every month.

There were no problems that occurred to us because they are flexible in

giving us instructions while doing their own works. When there were free

times, our mentor there were teaching us how life works, what we should do in

our own careers in the future. They said it is much better if to be the employer

than being an employee, that we should study hard for us to achieve our

dreams.

DEGUZMAN, ELOISA LLANE G.

The training I had in the R.Z Roncal Construction Corporation is learning
many experiences each day. I was exposed in the actual work in RZR, became
familiar with the documents prepared by the employees and auditors and I
learned how to use equipment that are usually used in the office. Aside from
those things, I also learned to be more sociable and to adjust myself in the
environment where I am working at and who I am working with.

In my two weeks stay there, I learned many things not only those things
that are related to my course but also the things that molded me to become a
future professional. As I was working as a trainee at R.Z. Roncal Construction
Corporation, I learned to become a hard-working person. The time to finish the
task assigned to me is important, but it is also important to do it correctly. I
learned to appreciate even the simplest lessons studied in school. I was able to
realize the importance of theories and formulas that were discussed in the
school. Also, to understand that everything that was taught in school can be a
tool that can be used in my future career, because during my On-the-Job
Training, the terms that I have learned from school were used in the company,
where I was conducting my training, especially those terms related to Auditing.
As I was conducting my training there, I also learned to follow the instructions
and to accept or admit my failure and should learn from it as what our
Supervisor said to us.

After the training, I realized that Work Immersion is not just a

requirement to be completed but it is an opportunity to show what skills,
knowledge, and talents that I have and also an opportunity to experience the
feeling of being a professional already.

Aside from the experiences, the Work Immersion allowed me to get

acquainted with the employees of RZR. Being with them is a pleasure because
during our stay there as a trainee, they kept on encouraging and motivating us
to study hard and to do our best always.
I won’t forget our Supervisor, Ms. Diane Salas who challenged not just
my skills and abilities but also my patience. She is a kind of person who wants
everything to be done instantly and correctly. She doesn’t like having doubts. I
was always nervous whenever she calls for help but with that experience that I
had with our Supervisor, I am so thankful to her because she taught us to be
more patient and to be confident of what I know is right and not to have doubt
about what I can do. Another person I have learned something from is the
Secretary of the Office, Ms. Joy. Whenever she asks me to do something, she
always keeps on saying that I should do things slowly but surely. She never
pressured me to make haste in doing the tasks that she has given me. All of
the people I have worked with during my Immersion are all very inspiring. They
all left a piece of advice to me that I will surely keep in my mind and in my
heart for the rest of my life.

I really had a very meaningful and memorable Immersion at RZR

Construction Corporation. Though I already finished working there as a
trainee, I am looking forward to working with them, not as a trainee anymore,
but as an employee, SOMEDAY.

LAYUG, CHRISTINE JOYCE L.

REFLECTION PAPER

RZR Construction Corporation, the place where numerous knowledge

and technical skills are achieved; Where not only occupational skills are
acquired but social influences as well and together with the superior guidance
of supervisors we were able to catch a glimpse of the working life that every
adult possesses. Different activities inside the company provide variety of
skills, awakening hidden abilities and especially having respect for the works
given to us. Posting check vouchers were the first thing I've learned to do which
resulted to a very enjoyable moment where also teaching the said task to fellow
classmates gave me confidence, a side learning technique I've learned while
working, that is applicable to use in our own second home. The next thing that
added to my 'can do' list is checking calculations of bid prices which I
surprisingly, hopefully, did well. It helped me familiarized calculations than
before which is crucial to my current strand. Not only that but simple filing
procedures helped our organizing quality to enhance which is extremely helpful
to categorize documents to its designated places.

The services and relations towards occupation and human

communications of all workers are in excellent terms especially the attitude of
each individual where we can learn from which is an essential part of the
working industry. The setting of the experience is professional and gives off an
intimidating vibe (in a good way) that motivates each individual to pursue
success. And last, nothing beats the unforgettable moment that will remain in
our hearts and minds which was held in the very building of RZR Construction
Corporation.

Everything taught to us is very much applied in school where the five of

us will surely use in our future studies. Information, criticisms, wisdoms,
sayings, everything will forever be a lesson taught to us in our year as a
student and we don't regret having our teachers place us in RZR Construction
Corporation.
Shout out to all supervisors, advisors, engineers, and workers especially
to Brother Roncal for having us to perform and learn from different experienced
professionals. Thank you for your hospitality!

BASILIO, KRISTOFER ANGEL G.

We are so grateful in our school for giving us the opportunity to experience the
business and work in the fields of our future courses in college. Not just we
train ourselves and experience work from the outside world, we also saw how
adults do their work and we take this as an inspiration in my life.

My first day in our work immersion in the RZ Roncal Construction

Corporation was very full of excitement and at the same time conscious about
what we'll do in our work in there. We first gather near the Sta. Maria Chapel
outside the subdivision in Sta. Maria Village to wait Tr. Rina because she will
help us get in the place where the corporation is. When we got there, only a few
moments, Tr. Rina said goodbye to us and left because she has work. The first
day started and I got loads of work. It's only the first day but there's a lot of
work but it's not a big problem for us. We checked papers and log the expenses
in the log books, and we duplicate the receipts to store for the company's
storage and back up datas. On the second day, we continued to do this things
and we have been given new tasks for us to do. I posted the expenses in the
computer. On the third day we denominate the total expenses and posted it in
the computer again. On the fourth day we duplicate forms about the papers of
the vehicles that the company used in their field of work. On the fifth day, we
continue to do that because we still haven't finished the task yet because it's
many. On the sixth day, we framed the plan that the engineer has been doing
for 3 years, they printed it and our supervisor told us to frame it with tape to
lessen the chances of breaking. We are doing it for almost 3 days because it's
so many and we couldn't afford to do it for just one day. With the help of kuya
Michael, one of the workers, we finished it till the ninth day of our work
immersion. Finally the last day of our work immersion, we don’t have much
work on that day because our supervisor, and their other accompany go to the
field in Magalang and they comeback in the afternoon. It's also the birthday of
one of our boss'. So we enjoyed our work immersion till our last day. We've
learned so much and this gives us an inspiration to achieve our goals in the
future especially me, because I'm going to take the course of Bachelor of
Science in Civil Engineering. It's a good experience because not only it's a nice
place to work in, but also because the people that surrounds us are
approaching very kind unto us. So I would like to thank them more and I'd be
grateful to them and always remember them as an inspiration in continuing to
achieve my dreams.

MOLINA, MENARD G.

Every school year, every student has their own unforgettable moments in
their life and as a student, one of those for me were working in an assigned
place to experience such things and they called it "work immersion". As what
I've experience, immersion is about putting yourselves into the situation of
others. At first, I was a little bit nervous but there is a part of me that I can feel
the excitement to do things in a work place. Even in a short span of time, I
realized a lot of things like on how to have fun and at the same time, do the
task that the supervisors and staff's assigned me.

After a week of work immersion, I realized things that can be useful

outside the work place and in the near future. First, punctuality. It is very
essential because absence can give you more pressure to do the task. Second,
patience. Supervisors and workers in this company will give you task and when
you finished the task, you have to wait for the next task that will be given to
you. And lastly, always be positive. Positivity can change everything. From the
way you talk, the you communicate, the way you do tasks, because I believe
that what you think, the result will be depended on it and if you will have
positive attitude, things will be more easier.

I am so thankful for this opportunity given to us students because I met

these kind of people in my life that leaves a mark on my heart. Learned so
many things and achieved growth.
CARLOS, ROVICA ZHAINE A.
Before our work immersion, when our teachers post the company we will
be attending, I was nervous because my family knows them. I was nervous
because even though they are our family friend, I don’t know them personally
and others say they are strict and snobbish. In our first day, they taught us
about their company. Ma’am Diane, one of the bosses, is so intimidating. I find
her scary because of her eyes. She was the one who oriented us about what we
will do for the day. Our first day is a bit confusing and stressful because we
were still adjusting.

As the days goes on we got comfortable and we started to enjoy our work.
I thought wrong about our bosses. They are so kind. Even our co-workers, and
the engineers are kind to us. We learned a lot from them. And then the last day
comes, we were sad because it was our last day in their company. Ma’am Diane
asked us to write about what we learned and how we can use this in our future
careers, and what we suggest to develop structures from their company. And
then we took photos with all of them.

Overall, my work experience at RZR Construction Corporation was

positive. I was very happy with the amount of things that I have learned and
experienced in the 2 weeks of working in their company. I say, work immersion
is very beneficial for us, students. Because we get to experience how to work
with other people, and to know about certain things like businesses, managing,
etc… according to what we will pursue in college and ideas about what we will
be doing after graduating college. So all in all, I thank our school and teachers
for letting us experience work immersion.

DEGUZMAN, ELOISA LLANE G.

This Work Immersion served as my stepping stone to pursue my dream to

become a professional someday. This training gave me an inspiration to be

more serious and focused in my studies. I was encouraged to do more efforts in

my studies. Since I was given some ideas about the work of an auditor, I am

inspired to be like someday.

Despite the short period of my training, it was still a very meaningful

one. The training enriched my confidence created a foundation of being a good

employee someday. It caused a very huge effect to me as a STEM Student. I

was really renewed. I learned to be diplomatic in both action and words.

This training made me realize that it is really good to know what you’re

doing and to love it. As a student, what I can do for now is to learn whatever I

can in school, be inspired, love the path I am taking, and do my best in

everything I do, with a positive outlook in mind. I realized that I should be more

focused in school and do everything heartily and with all that I can.

It is also very warm to the heart to know that you have accomplished

something and even warmer when there are people who are so proud of what

you have done and I felt this feeling during on my Work Immersion. It inspired
me to be more determined and competitive in everything that I do in my daily

life as a student today and as a professional someday.

My Work Immersion is very helpful and will be very helpful to me as I

continue to take my journey as a STEM Student. It really gave me a taste of the

real world —a glimpse of what lies ahead after I graduate.

LAYUG, CHRISTINE JOYCE L.

The experience in the seminar before the work immersion is indeed helpful to me in my

situation. Ka Carlo Rufo was the assigned minister to be the speaker in the seminar. The topic

is about how to conduct one self. It's about the do's and dont's in the workplace in our work

immersion. So it's a big help for me as a student who's going to work in the work immersion.

You need to be obedient to the supervisors and other co-workers in the office if there's a task

that they want you to do. And you have to enjoy your task that's been given so you'll earn

their trust. Don't be lazy in doing task because it will ruin the trust of your co-workers. You

need to be initiative and you'll need to be quick minded if there's a task that's been given.

Don't do your own will. Do what is the given task to you and dont improvise if not considered

by the supervisor. Be open for mistakes. Be matured enough in accepting mistakes. Always
ask questions to be more sure in the given task. Dont gossip to other people in the company if

there's like that to avoid problems.

There's so many that I've learned in the seminar that Ka. Carlo that thought us. It's a big help

for us in the work immersion. It will be my guide in my future and in the said subject.

I admit that I've learned so much in our work immersion. It's a very good experience for me

because the field that I will tackle in college is Bs Civil Engineering. In the office of the

RZRoncal, we did much things and we are full of work in our work immersion. We did filing of

the receipts and other certificates. We learned that it is important to file the files to the future

need of the company. There will be proof if there's a problem in billing and if there's a

problem, it can be solved immediately by seeking in the file cabinet. We also duplicate

reciepts. It is important just like filing it because if there's a reciept that is missing, you can

easily find the duplicate for emergency uses. We also did denomination of reciepts. It is

important because you need the exact numbers for the payments in the company. We also

did framing of plan. It's important to strenghten the edges of the paper so that it wont break

easily because that's important to lessen the expenses of the company. We don't have many

problems in our work immersion. If there's a problem, we quickly solved and conquer it. It's a
good experience for us to do this work immersion because we'll use our experience in the

future
