Meaning: during, throughout

Formation:

Noun +

When is attached to some Nouns itʼs pronounced as “chuu” while to

others itʼs pronounced as “juu.” Thereʼs no specific rule so youʼll need to
learn by heart.

When attached to some certain Nouns, can be pronounced as both chuu

and juu. For example:

(sekaichuu/seikaijuu): around the world

(nenchuu/nenjuu): whole year, all year round

Example sentences:

2008 became the deadliest year yet in Afghanistan, with nearly three
hundred Coalition forces killed in action.
afuganisutan ni okeru takokusekigun no shisha ga motto mo ookatta nisen
hachinen ni, sanbyakunin chikaku ga ninmuchuu ni inochi o otoshita.

(saichuu ni): in the middle of
(o chuushin ni): focused on, centered on
