FYI
We are fortunate to have such a wonderful Child
Nutrition Program (CNP) staff! They do a fantastic
job each day of preparing nutritious and yummy
meals for so many growing little people! Starting
Monday, if your child gets a school lunch, then
they will have the option of ordering the “hot
lunch” (which is usually the warmer lunch option)
or a “cold lunch” (the cooler lunch option). This
maybe be a little confusing for the first several
days. You can help by discussing this with your
child prior to them coming to school each day. If
for some reason a student is tardy or checks in,
they will not have a choice and will be ordered the
hot lunch option. Once they make a choice in the
morning, they will not be able to switch later in the
day. You can view the lunch menu on our school’s
website which will have both menu options listed
each day. Thank you for your help!
If your child eats breakfast at school, please make
every effort to have them at school in plenty of
time to eat before our day ‘officially begins’ at
7:50. This will help increase the amount of
instructional time I have with the children in the
morning.
NEEDED
We will not have a class Valentine’s Day ‘party’
on February 14; however, if your child would like
to address Valentine’s Day cards for everyone in
our class, I have included a list of names (on back)
with this newsletter. Although this is not
mandatory, it can be a wonderful authentic writing
opportunity for the children. There will be time
during that day for them to deliver any treats
and/or cards they have brought.
Please make sure your child has a warm jacket, hat,
mittens, etc. each day, especially since our
scheduled recess time is 9:30. I have a few extra
coats for those times when students forget.

This week’s reading is titled Developing Geometric
Thinking through Activities That Begin with Play.
This article discusses the rich and stimulating
instruction in geometry that can be provided
through playful activities with mosaics such as
pattern blocks or design tiles. It includes an
interesting mosaic puzzle to describe activities at
various developmental levels and how the activities
can help develop children's geometric thinking.
The article is attached to the same email as this
newsletter. It can also be found on our classroom’s

absent (sick, vacation, etc.) you need to send in a
handwritten excuse ASAP. If it helps, please feel
free to email me a scanned copy of the excuse and
I will print it off to send to the office. Thank you
