To God be the glory that I emerge to read this address today as the Chairman
PENGASSAN PHRC BRANCH.
My sincere thanks goes to the entire staff for their in-depth knowledge of the
PENGASSAN constitution and most especially to PHRC Management for their
firm but fair and neutral role which paved way for a peaceful and democratic
elections.
I want to quickly debunk perceived insinuations and misgivings about my person
and style by stating clearly that my leadership strongly believes in dialogue and
sees management and labour as partners in progress. Let me therefore assure
management of our preparedness and willingness to cooperate and join forces in
our common aspiration to reposition PHRC and by extension, the NNPC as a
world class leading oil company.
Propelled by sincerity of purpose to align with the corporate vision and goals, our
vision therefore, is to collaborate with management and engage all relevant persons
and agencies in discussions that will be aimed at finding solutions to the challenges
that are already characterizing our issues of common interest.
ISSUES OF COMMON INTEREST
Among the issues that will engage our attention in the days ahead, the key ones
include:-
1. STATE OF THE PLANT/TAM
2. EFFECTIVE CRUDE OIL SUPPLY
3. GENERAL STAFF WELFARE AND MOTIVATION
4. HUMAN CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT/ TRAINING
5. STATE OF THE BOILERS IN PPU
6. CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER SYSTEMS
7. PROMPT SUPPLY OF PPE
Staff welfare issues are numerous and most time recurring, but worthy of note
is the fact that it most times affects the psychology of the workforce directly.
For these reasons we equally believe that the middle management at HR strata
is in a better position to dialogue with the organized labour on welfare related
issues. To this end, we will appreciate a situation where, views and
agreements reached at various meetings are given recognition and
implemented as recommended by HR. In this wise, there will be trust and
confidence for dialogue to continue as issues unfold, and HR or management
representatives at JCC meetings will no longer be viewed ad mere errand
boys without delegated power to take decision.
Let me use this opportunity to once again inform the Management that we are
all partners in progress. Both the Management and the Unions have same
objective. Therefore, PENGASSAN is willing and able to join forces with
management in order to succeed. So we call on Management to appreciate this
concern with a view to maintain the existing industrial harmony in PHRC.
Thank you.
This and many others will also make the Refineries more attractive as obtained in
the Upstream Sub-Sector and reduce the distractions within the Downstream Sub-
Sector. It will also motivate the workforce in tandem with modern technological
advancement.
