K-12 Experience:
Student-Teaching Intern: Divine Child High School, Dearborn, MI October 2018 to June 2019
• Compared and contrasted students’ learning experiences with direct instruction and flipped instruction by
observing four sections of College Algebra (Algebra II) and two sections of AP Calculus.
• Conducted several homework review and test review lessons in College Algebra designed by the mentor teacher
to improve students’ understanding of problems they requested for review.
• Designed and led one lesson in AP Calculus and one lesson in College Algebra that allowed students to discuss
their approaches to problems in small groups and as a full class.
• Will teach five, month-long units in College Algebra, starting in January.
• Will observe two units as well as teach two units in a section of Honors Tenth-Grade English, starting in

• Gained an understanding of the student and teacher experience in a middle school flipped classroom by
observing three sections of seventh-grade math and two sections of “accelerated” seventh-grade math.
• Helped individual students with problem sets during class by asking them to explain their problem-solving
process and providing additional strategies and guidance.
• Designed and facilitated a Number Talk to provide students with an opportunity to practice and discuss a
problem they solved using mental math.

• Conducted research for high school Academic Research Project class on use of genetic modification to enhance
the nutritional quality of staple foods.
• Read scientific articles, conducted lab work with a biology professor at Marygrove College in Detroit, MI, and
presented findings in a research paper and poster presentation to the local community to teach others about the
potential benefits of genetic modification.

• Worked with former prisoners and other volunteers during weekly meetings to prepare baked goods to be sold at
