Krityanand UNESCO Club, Jamshedpur is a non-government organization (NGO) established in 1992, Registered Under Societies Registration Act, 1860
and has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
Each summer, we welcome nearly 50 interns from India and around the world for a packed Programme
of Internship, Research and Development as well as social activities. This year's Summer internship
programmes run between 1st May 2019 – 31st July 2019, and are aimed at Post Graduate students. This is a
fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in broadening their horizons and learning more about Operation
Research and Statistics. During their time with us, each intern produces a supervised research project, chosen
by themselves with guidance from Senior Research Associate.
Purpose
Operational researchers and statisticians play an important role in the modern time and it needs knowledge with the necessary skills to provide effective
solutions to complex organizational challenges. This includes all key stages of solving real-world problems. Krityanand UNESCO Club PG Internship
analyzes economic conditions and promotes use of Operation Research and Statistical Method in day by day working methods. This Programme is an ideal
opportunity to provide internee with the analytical and statistical skill set necessary for success in industry, business or in the public sector. From day one you
will find yourself working with Organisations on case studies to develop abilities in applied analytics and statistics. It encourages the quality aspect of growth
and highlights the need to consider the distributional consequences of development policies.
Objective
The Operations Research and Statistics concentration equips students with a broad understanding of the processes of through an interdisciplinary package of
projects, and practical internships, Internee will gain key skills in policy analysis, program planning, project management, monitoring, and evaluation. Also
To give knowledge of operational research techniques and applied statistical theory and methods at an advanced level; for careers as either an operational
researcher or as a statistician. As well as experience of applications of operational research and statistical methods.
The ORSM concentration attracts diverse students of Engineering, Computer Science, Commerce and Management, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics,
CA and CS.
The Concentration in Operations Research and Statistical Method (ORSM) program is a series of two-months Internship on the principles of quantitative
analysis, and management. Complementing this skills-oriented core sequence of the curriculum are courses designed to broaden and deepen students’
understanding of development of Operational Research and Statistical Techniques in modern era.
The Krityanand UNESCO club Jamshedpur Internship on Operation Research and Statistical Method has a broad research base with specialisms across a
range of different areas relating to Operation Research and Statistics. We are particularly interested in working across these boundaries and have therefore
organized our research output by two broad, interdisciplinary strands: Operations Research and Statistics.
Prerequisites: Students are expected to have basic knowledge in Mathematics, Operation Research and Statistics.
Operational Research is the application of scientific methods to the study of complex organizational problems. It is concerned with applying advanced analytical methods to make
effective decisions in strategic planning or operational planning, and build more productive systems.

1 Operations This module aims to introduce the student to the main deterministic techniques that 30/60/90
Research are used in operational research, namely linear and integer programming, dynamic Days
programming, machine scheduling, project networks, and heuristics. The process of
modelling problems of a practical nature as a linear or integer program will be
developed. To provide an overview of the Operation Research. The key objective is
to give students a framework to think about the processes that drive operation
research, as well as policies that might promote it.
OR02A: Queuing Systems: Basic elements of a queue and applications of queuing systems.
OR02B: Inventory System: EOQ models, newsboy models, inventory model with stochastic
demand.
OR02C: Reliability Theory: Reliability of a component, reliability of a system, maintenance
models, reliability and economics
OR02D: Decision Theory:
OR02E: Bayes’ rule, value of information
OR02F: Decision trees, and utility.
OR02G: Theory of Game
OR02H: Project Management: PERT and CPM Techniques.
OR02I: Markov Chains and Simulation
OR02J: Classical Optimization Methods
Group 2: Statistics
Statistics is concerned with decision-making in the face of uncertainty, and lies at the heart of the type of quantitative reasoning necessary for making important advances in the
sciences, such as medicine and genetics, and for making important decisions in business and public policy.

2 Statistical The Statistics Project gives students to conduct an in-depth study, either of a 30/60/90
Method particular advanced statistical methodology, or of the application of one or more Days
methods to real applied problems. The aim is to develop skills of organizing work,
identifying and directing own work and writing a comprehensive report on a major
piece of work. The choice of project is determined by the student's own interests.
