Commercial Lines (CLDW) Data Warehouse

The Hartford’s Commercial Lines (CL) systems encompass all lines of commercial insurance
(Workers Comp, General Liability, Commercial Property and Auto, Inland/Ocean Marine), and
supports all facets of automated issuance not limited to, Quoting, Policy issuance, rating, pricing,
booking, etc. Most of the source data needed for a full analytical Enterprise Data Warehouse
(EDW) solution came from either disparate and/or loosely coupled systems, making full integration
a challenging proposition.

Responsibilities:
 Lead Project Data Architect – leading all data architecture activities for a new Enterprise Data
Warehouse, and data integration.
 Lead designer / data architect – led the full dimensional design of a multi-year, multi-terabyte,
multi-million dollar Commercial Lines Dimensional Data Warehouse project to successful
completion.
 Lead Modeler - Responsible for leading the two onshore and three offshore modelers through
the full dimensional model design.
 Business Customer collaboration – Worked directly with the business leads. Led several of
the strategy and design sessions. Provided recommended solution designs.

Outcome/Results:
Enterprise data solution provided 60% savings/effort for consumption by downstream business
projects.

Claims Data Warehouse (CDW) is part of The Hartford’s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
CDW is comprised of Atomic data loads and Data Marts for Commercial Auto, Property, and
Medical claims.

Responsibilities:
 Working across several simultaneous Warehouse projects in EDW to provide the following…
o Technical Leadership – Served as ETL Architect / Tech lead for a twenty four person ETL
(Informatica / PLSql / Oracle) development team through the project lifecycles.
o Developed many of the ER ODS/Atomic Modeling and Dimensional modeling schemas.
Assigned and mentored the lead developers through the physical schema build process.
o Technical lead for the ETL design of several Atomic and Data Mart loads, working with the
lead developers to ensure that design standards and best practices were applied at all
application layers.
o Data analysis/discovery validations. Performed extensive post-load validation queries to
ensure valid data relationships and business rules.
o Designed and implemented reusable components for batch process, error logging, quality
control, balancing and auditing.

Project: Personal Lines (PLDW) Data Warehouse

Personal Lines Data Warehouse (PLDW) is part of The Hartford’s Enterprise Data Warehouse
(EDW). PLDW is comprised of Atomic data loads and Data Marts for Personal Auto, Property
Insurance. Marts were designed to provide inforce, book-of-business, and risk evaluations of data
needed for the BI and MIS reporting within The Hartford.

Responsibilities:
 Key contributor of the Personal Lines and Claims DW “Best Practices Group”, including design
and implementing of reusable objects; designing and documenting “Best” DW processes, etc.
 Served as the Technical team lead for several Personal Lines DW projects. Primary
responsibilities included, data modeling, lead designer, and technical management of the
development team through development, testing and implementation.
 Responsible for Technical Training and mentoring of the development staff in Data Warehouse
tools and best practices.
