Water Purification Techniques
Properties of the dirty water at different water purification methods

Water Purification Method Observations

Aeration Dark water changes, it became lighter

Coagulation The particles in the water became densed

because of the alum. It also sticked together

Sedimentation The particles that sticks together (coflux ba

tawag don?) sinks down on the base of the
beaker

Filtration The water became clearer, the suspended solid

particles were separated from the mixture

Aeration Gasses are dissolved

Coagulation Solid particles are suspended as well as

organic compounds are dissolved

1. Compare the DO concentration of the water before and after
the treatment.
Before the water treatment, the DO concentration on the water is low. The
water that is used as a sample of the experiment was contaminated by
pollutants. After the treatment, the DO concentration on the water increased.
The water undergone purification method
and is done thoroughly and chronologically. The purification method has five
basic steps: Aeration, Coagulation, Sedimentation, Filtration and Disinfection,
but we just used the first four steps of the method. That's why the increase in
the DO concentration is not that high.

2. Explain how the amounts of organic pollutants affect the

concentration of the dissolved oxygen in water.

3. What are the factors that affect the concentration of dissolved

oxygen in water? Explain each factor.
