Article Quran & Ahlulbayt … A New Discovery
The Quran is a powerful Holy Book that contains
countless numbers of miracles of all types. Science, history, moral and
many other issues are demonstrated in the Holy Book. Moreover, there
are inner Islamic miracles such as the Ahlulbayt. Unfortunately, a huge
percentage of Muslims do not know whom are the Ahlulbayt and there
importance that are reserved for them. Firstly, knowing the Ahlulbayt is
the primary step then the Qur’anic miracle will support it.
The Ahlulbayt are the godly ones of the family of the holy prophet
whom the Muslim world as a whole generally should recognize as the
pure personalities and hold them as Infallible Holy ones purified by Allah
(SWT).
Ahlulbayt members:
Prophet Muhammed (P.), Sayeda Fatimah (A.S), Imam Ali (A.S.),
Imam Hassan(A.S), Imam Hussain (A.S.), Imam Sajjad (A.S.), Imam
Baqir (A.S.), Imam Sadiq (A.S.), Imam Kadhim (A.S.), Imam Al-Ridha
(A.S.), Imam Al-Jawad(A.S), Imam Ali Al-Hadi (A.S.), Imam Al-Askari
(A.S.), Imam Mahdi (A.S.).
The term “Ahl” signifies the members of a household of a man, includ-
ing his fellow tribesmen, kin, relatives, wife (or wives), children, and all
those who share a family background, religion, housing, city, and coun-
try with him. “Ahl” and “al” are both the same term with the excep

tion that “al” is exclusively used for human beings and should come
before the family name, but such a condition is not existent in the case of
“Ahl”. The term “Bayt” refers to habitation and dwelling, including tents
and buildings both. The “Ahl Al-Bayt” of any person refers to his family
members and all those who live in his house. The term “Ahl Al-Bayt”
(people of the house) has been repeated twice in the Holy Qur’an:
1. “... the mercy of Allah and his blessing are on you, O people of
the house, ... (11:73)”
This verse refers to the people of the House of Ibrahim (A.S.)
2. “... Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O
people of the House! And to purify you a (thorough) purifying (33:33)”.
This verse, known as the “Tat-hir verse”, refers to the Members of the
Household of the Holy Prophet (P). The Imamiyyah scholars of Hadith
and Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), as well as some Sunni `Ulama, con-
sider the “Ahl Al-Bayt” cited in the “Tat-hir verse” to include exclusively
Muhammed, `Ali, Fatimah, Hassan, and Hussain (peace be upon them
all). They do not consider the Holy Prophet’s other offspring, wives, sons
of paternal uncles, and dwellers of his house as the Messenger’s “Ahl
Al-Bayt”.
Fortunately, the Quran exposes to us interesting miracles in relation
with Ahlulbayt with some numbers that I have concluded.
Let’s reexamine the verse:
If we counted the frequency of the word (Bayt) in the entire Holy
Quran, we will notice that it is repeated 14 times in the following vers-
es: [2:125] [2:127] [2:158] [3:97] [5:2] [5:97] [8:35] [11:73] [22:26]
[22:33] [33:33] [106:3] [22:29] [52:4]. Amazingly, this number coin-
cides with the number of the Ahlulbayt (12 Imams ) + Mohammad +
Fatima((peace be upon them all)).
In addition, if we as well count the frequency of the word (Ahl), we
will find 56. Furthermore, if we divided 56/14, it will result 4. How is
the digit 4 representative? Well, if we count the frequency of the word
(Imam), we will also find that it is repeated 4 times ([2:124] [11:17]
[25:74] [46:12]). Is this a pure coincidence? Or is it a true miracle?
Moreover, if we count the frequency of the word” (Imams), in the
Quran, it will equal to 5([9:12] [21:73] [28:5] [28:41] [32:24]). Now,
the addition of the frequency of the word (Imams) + (Imam) will equal
to 9 (5+4=9). The number of the “Ashab Al Kisa” (5) will be given to us
by subtracting 9 from 14. (14-9 = 5).
Number of the Ahlulbayt members =14
Frequency of the word Imam = 56/14 = 4
“Ashab Al Kisa” = 14 – (5+4) = 5

Calculations were discovered by Mohamad Al Khabaz.

ing, for if He had not been self-existing, He like this world would have
required someone to bring Him into existence, and that is not possible in
the case of the Benefactor worthy of worship.
ETERNAL: Allah is eternal and has always existed in the sense that
there was no time when He did not exist. He will always be existing in
the sense that there will be no time when He will not exist. He is All-
Powerful and has the power of willing and choosing in the sense that if
He wills, He does a thing and if He does not will, He does not do it. This
is evident for He made the world when He liked.
OMNIPOTENT: Allah the Almighty can do all that can be done and
knows all that can be known, for all things are on the same level in rela-
tion to His Holy and Absolute Being. To say that He can do certain things
and cannot do some others, or that He knows certain things, but does
not know some others would mean giving preference to certain things to
others without any cogent reason, which is impossible.
OMNISCIENT: Allah is All-Knowing in the sense that everything is
clear and manifest to Him and there is not anything hidden from Him,
for Allah’s all acts are perfect and thorough. Therefore, He is evidently
All-Knowing.
ALL-PERCEIVING: Allah perceives everything, not with the help of
any physical means, but in the sense that He knows everything that is
perceived by senses, for Allah is free from having a body and its acces-
sories. Allah Himself says: Eyesight does not perceive Him, but He per-
ceives eyesight. He is Subtle and All-knowing.(6:104) When Allah says
that He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, that means that He knows everything
that is audible, but not through an ear and that He knows everything
that is visible, but not through an eye.
EVER-LIVING: Allah is living in the sense that it can be said about Him
that He is able to do everything and that He knows everything, for it has
been proved that He has power and knowledge, and anyone who has
power and knowledge is certainly living.
SPEAKER: Allah is Speaker, not in the sense that He speaks physically,
but in the sense that He creates speech in some organism or body so
that His message may be conveyed to His creatures. He has said: Allah
spoke to Moses in a particular way.(4:164) As Allah is Powerful, He is
able to speak.
TRUTHFUL: Allah is Truthful in the sense that He tells actual truth,
because every lie is abominable, and Allah is free from all that is ugly.
THE WILL OF ALLAH: Allah has a will in the sense that He does a
thing as and when He deems it fit. He created a particular thing at a
particular time in a particular form. He gives orders and that shows that
He has a will.

AVERSION: Allah is averse in the sense that He prefers not to do a
thing that He knows will cause evil. He did not create certain things at
a particular time, although His Knowledge and Power are always on the
same level. He has forbidden certain things. That shows His aversion.

Article IMAM HASSAN ASKARI
A BRIEF LOOK AT HIS LIFE
Birth & Childhood
When he was born, his father said that it was an order from the
prophet (P) that he should be named Hassan. It was so well known
that the last Imam’s father would be called Hassan that people had
previously looked for the 12th Imam amongst the sons of Imam Hassan
Al-Mujtaba (AS)
His mother was Sulail (or Hudaitha) who was a slave of the 10th
Imam whom he had freed and subsequently married. The 10th Imam
said of her that she was one who was free from all vice and pollution and
that she was one of the righteous ones. After the 11th Imam’s martyr-
dom he left all the “orders” of Imamate with her (his mother).
Once, when Imam Hassan Al-Askari (A.S.) was a young child, he fell
into a well near their house. His father Imam Ali An-Naqi (A.S.) was
praying and didn’t even notice the commotion around him of the ladies
crying. When he finished praying and asked what had happened, he
was told. He went towards the well. The water rose and all saw the 11th
Imam sitting peacefully on the water and playing.
Once, Bahlool once saw the young Imam crying in the street where
all the other children were busy playing with their toys. He asked wheth-
er Imam was crying because he had no toys to play with. Imam replied:
“We have not been created to play!”
Bahlool asked where he had learnt this from and the Imam said:
“Have you not read the Qur’an where it says - “Do you think we have
created you in vain and that you will not be returned to us.”
When Bahlool heard this he asked Imam for some advice. Imam talk-
ed about death, Barzakh (Purgatory Life) and Qiyama (Day of Judge-
ment) and cried so much, he fainted. When he came to, Bahlool asked
him why he was so fearful as he did not even reach the age of puberty
yet. Imam said:
“I have watched my mother light a fire; she uses the little twigs to get
the big pieces of wood to burn; I fear that on Qiyama Allah too will use
little ones to light the big ones.”
Title: Al-Askari
The 10th and 11th Imamayn were both called Al-Askari as they lived
in an area of Samarra called Askar.
Another reason that the 11th Imam was called Askari is said to be

that once Mutawakkil wanted to show the Imam the strength of his
army of 90,000 men and so he asked his men to fill their sacks with sand
and pile all the sacks up. He then showed the Imam this mountain of
sacks. The Imam asked Mutawakkil, to look through his (Imam’s) two
fingers, where he saw an army of armed Angels. Imam told him that
they were at his disposal but he would not use them. (An army is called
Askar).
His Life
Ahmed Bin Ishaq relates that when he heard of the death of the 10th
Imam he went to Samarra and asked for the whereabouts of the 11th
Imam. He was told that Imam had been imprisoned by Mo’taz. After brib-
ing the guards he was able to visit the Imam one night. He described the
prison as a tunnel under the Khalifa’s home where there was no space to
stretch ones legs or room to be able to stand. Ahmed says he cried when
he saw the Imam’s condition. Food was only one glass of water and a
piece of dry bread a day.
He was imprisoned because all the rulers knew of the justice that was
promised to come with the coming of the 12th Imam and they wished to
prevent anyone being born of the 11th Imam.
Whilst in prison he told his companions to accumulate all the questions
of jurisprudence and he answered the questions on the chapters that
were found missing. He introduced the institution of “Taqleed” advising
people to follow those who were learned, pious, and just, as he was in
prison and it was extremely difficult for people to meet him. Khums (20%
Islamic Tax) was collected through his representative, Abu-Ja’fer Uthman
bin Saeed, and questions were asked to him, who was later to become
the representative of the 12th Imam.
Imam Al-Askari and the Drought
There was once a severe drought in Samarra. A Christian priest came
and when he raised his hands rain started to fall. The Muslims’ faith
started wavering and the Khalifa Mo’taz got worried for if they left Islam
he would have none to rule over.
He went to the 11th Imam saying that the Imam’s grandfathers’ re-
ligion was in trouble. Imam asked him to call all the people outside Sa-
marra with the Christian priest. He asked the Christian priest to pray for
rain. When he raised his hands to pray, it started to rain. Imam asked for
whatever was in his hand to be taken away and then asked him to pray
for rain again. There was no rain this time. Imam showed that what the
priest had in this hand was the bone of a Prophet which whenever placed
under the open sky, it caused it to rain.
Imam then prayed for rain and it rained. Mo’taz could not imprison the
Imam again for some time for when the people saw the miracle; they all

The Imam pointed to the Khalifa and asked them to ask him. Mo’taz
told them that Imam was staying at the house where the 10th Imam
used to reside.
Lady Nargis was there and it was in that year that the 12th Imam was
born. The Imam was allowed out of prison for 13 months after which he
was rearrested.
Martyrdom and Burial
In the six years of his Imamate, several attempts were made on his
life. On the 1st of Rabi-ul Awwal 260 A.H. Mo’tamad arranged for the
Imam to be poisoned in prison and then sent him home. Imam was in
great pain and difficulty for 8 days. On the 8th of Rabi-ul Awwal he asked
his son, the 12th Imam, to bring him some water and then leave him. He
died that day and was given Ghusl & Kafan (Ceremonies for the dead in
Islam) by his son, the 12th Imam. The funeral prayers were led by the
12th Imam and it was then that a lot of the Muslims saw him for the first
time. A large number of people attended the funeral. Imam Al-Askari
(A.S.) is buried in Samarra, Iraq.

Article Imam Hassan Askari (A.S.)

Introduced the Saviour of Humanity
Imam Hassan al-Askari (AS) has said: “There are two characteris-
tics, which surpass all others: having faith in Allah, and benefiting one’s
brothers (in faith).” (Tuhaf al-Uqul, p. 489)
One of the major responsibilities of Imam Hassan al-Askari (AS), for
which he endeavored earnestly, was to introduce the Imam after him to
the Muslims and to inform them of the next Imam’s occultation. At the
time, the Abbasid dynasty, having had heard the words of the previous
Imams (AS) and those of Prophets’ (AS) about the savior that would
be born to Imam Hassan al-Askari (AS), were in close watch of Imam
Hassan’s (AS) residency to make sure he would not have a son. There-
upon, Imam Hassan al-Askari (AS) had to hide his son from the guards
sent by the government and in that manner save his son’s life.
After the martyrdom of Imam Hassan al-Askari (AS), Imam al-Mahdi
(AS) went into the periods of his short and long occultation, whereupon
most Shiites were deprived from seeing their Imam. Upon this matter,
at the time of Imam al-Askari (AS) it was necessary to introduce Imam
al-Mahdi (AS) to certain Shiites, and clarify his processes of occultation.
Many narrations have been recorded on this matter, but in this excerpt
we will refer to only one.
Ahmad ibn Is’haq, one of the reliable companions of Imam Hassan
al-Askari (A.S.), has narrated: “In one of my visits to the Imam, I had in-
tended to ask about his successor. Yet before I had spoken, the Imam

(AS) said: ‘O Ahmad ibn Is’haq! From the creation of Adam, Allah
(SWT) has never left the earth without His successor on people, and will
never do so until the Day of Judgment…’ I asked: ‘O son of the messen-
ger of Allah! So who is the successor and Imam after you?’
Imam al-Askari (AS) stood up immediately, and entered the house. He
then returned carrying a three year old boy, whose face was filled with a
halo of light. He said: ‘O Ahmad! If it were not for your eminence in the
eyes of Almighty Allah and His chosen people, I would not have shown
you my child. His name and nickname are the same as that of Prophet
Muhammed’s (SAW); and it is he who will fill the earth with justice af-
ter it has been corrupted with oppression…By Allah (SWT)! He will live
through a long occultation from which people will not survive perdition
and deviation, except for those who stand firm on believing in his Imam-
ate, and those who are honored with the opportunity to pray for haste
in his reappearance.”
Ahmad ibn Is’haq narrates: “the minute I asked Imam Askari (AS):
‘Will any sign or miracle appear to make me confident?’ The child began
speaking: ‘I am the remainder of Allah (Baqi yatullah) on earth; the one
who will take revenge on the enemies of Allah; and after seeing me, do
not search for any other signs!”…

Anecdote Bahlool Sits on Haroun Rashid’s
Throne

One day Bahlool arrived at Haroun’s palace and saw that the throne
was empty. There was no one to stop him, so he unhesitatingly and
fearlessly went and sat in Haroun’s place. When the court slaves saw
this, they immediately started whipping him and took him off the throne.
Bahlool started crying. Haroun came and saw this; he asked those near-
by why Bahlool was crying. A slave told him the whole story. Haroun
scolded them and tried to cheer Bahlool up.
Bahlool said he wasn’t crying at his condition, but at Haroun’s condi-
tion. “I sat on the seat of Khalifate wrongfully for a few seconds and
received such a beating and endured such misfortune; but you have
been sitting on this throne all your life! What troubles you must receive,
Anecdote Bahlool and the Khalifa’s Food

It is said that Haroun Rashid sent some food to Bahlool. His servant
brought the food to Bahlool, put it in front of him, and said, “This is the
Khalifa’s special food, he has sent it to you to eat.”
Bahlool placed the food in front of the dog that was sitting in the ruins
of the place. The servant screamed, “Why did you give the Khalifa’s food
to the dog!”
Bahlool said, “Be quiet! If the dog hears that the Khalifa sent this
food, it won’t eat it either.”
Sayings Imam Muhammed Al-Baqir (AS) said:
1. Remember your previous sins with severe re-
pentance and by seeking more forgiveness.
2. The one who disobeys Allah has no knowledge of Him.
3. “I hate the person who is jobless and who merely lies on his back

favor while the small ant comes out of its ant colony to seek its liveli-
hood!”
