Romeo and Juliet

William shakespeare author of the play Romeo and Juliet ,tells the tragic love story of

two young people named Romeo and Juliet .The two teens love each other , but their families

are rivals which prevents them from being together. In the end, the two lovers feels that the only

way to be together is in death.Throughout the play shakespeare expresses his belief that love

forces on to choose between individual identity vs. group identity through character interactions

and major events.

To begin with shakespeare's play will have many character interactions between Romeo

and Juliet love by choosing between individual identity vs. group identity .In the play it states

¨Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name which is no part of thee Take all myself¨(lines 46-49)

.This quote proves that love makes them choose individual identity because their names do not

define them and are not important to their relationship. In the play it also states ¨Deny thy father

and refuse thy name; or if thou wilt not , be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a

capulet¨(line 34-36).This quote proves that Romeo and Juliet love forces them to choose

individual identity because if Romeo promises to love and marry Juliet then she will no longer be

a capulet. Overall Romeo and Juliet love forces them to be together instead of choosing to listen

to their family.

Similarly, shakespeare develops the theme that love forces one to choose between

individual vs. group identity through major event. In the text it says¨This is thy sheath; there rust,

and let me die.She stabs herself; falls [and dies]¨.(Line 170).This quote shows love forces
Romeo and Juliet to choose individual identity because Juliet decided to stab herself after

Romeo drink the poison which she didn't think of her family she was thinking of love. In the text

is says ¨Tybalt:Thou, wretched boy, that didst consort him here shalt with hence.Romeo:this

shall determine that. They fight and tybalt falls ¨(line 132-134).This proves that it individual

identity because Romeo decides to kill Tybalt which he knew that Tybalt(enemy) was juliet

cousin but he didn't care because Romeo let tybalt hit him but when he killed mercutio Romeo

got bad and killed him with knowing the consequences.overall,Romeo and juliet keep fighting for

their love through individual identity.

Finally ,shakespeare play will have more character interaction when Romeo and Juliet

love forces them to choose individual identity vs. group identity. In the play it says ¨I take thee at

thy word. Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized;Henceforth I never will be Romeo.¨(line

49-51).This quote shows that love forces Romeo and Juliet to choose individual identity

because Romeo told Juliet he trust his word and will take his new name and from that point will

never be Romeo again. In the play it says ¨wert thou as young as I , Juliet thy love, an hour but

married, Tybalt murdered, Doting like me and like me banished.(lines 65-67)This quote shows

that love forces Romeo and Juliet to choose individual identity because Romeo is saying that

overall what he done and nobody have experience they should not be talking because he is in

love with Juliet.

overall,Romeo and Juliet love is strong that there family will not separate them even thought

what they passed through.

Throughout the play shakespeare expresses his belief that love forces on to choose

between individual identity vs. group identity through character interactions and major events.
