recommendations.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 INSULATION
3. Insulation on cold surfaces where vapor barrier jackets are used shall be
applied with a continuous, unbroken vapor seal. Hangers, supports,
anchors, etc., that are secured directly to cold services shall be
adequately insulated and vapor sealed to prevent condensation.
Insulation Insulation
Piping System Thickness Type
2. Longitudinal lap and 75 mm wide vapor barrier joint seal strips shall be
adhered neatly in place with vapor barrier adhesive. Factory applied
self-sealing laps are acceptable.
3. Ends of pipe insulation shall be sealed off with vapor barrier coating at
flanges, valves and fittings and at intervals of not more than 7 meters on
continuous runs of pipe.
6. All exposed piping shall have a factory attached, pre-sized glass cloth
covered vapor barrier jacket. Vapor-barrier jacket may be vinyl-coated
embossed laminate.
2. Longitudinal lap and 75 mm wide vapor barrier joint seal strips shall be
adhered neatly in place with vapor barrier adhesive. Factory applied
self-sealing laps are acceptable.
3. Fittings and valves for pipe sizes smaller than 200 mm shall be insulated
and finished with Insulating and Finishing Cement. On pipe sizes 200
mm and larger, use segments of the molded insulation or molded
fiberglass fittings wired securely in place. Flanges shall be insulated
with sectional pipe insulation extending a minimum of 25 mm beyond
the end of the bolts. Bolt area to be filled with mineral wool cement.

2. Longitudinal lap and 75 mm wide joint seal strips shall be secured with
outward clinch staples on concealed piping and vapor barrier adhesive
on exposed piping. Factory applied self-sealing laps (SSL) are
acceptable.
Thickness of fittings, valve and flange insulation shall be same as
adjoining pipe insulation. Concealed fittings, etc., may be insulated with
0.45 kg fiberglass blanket wrapped firmly under compression, 2 to 1 and
secured with copper-clad wire.
2. Fittings and valves for pipe sizes smaller than 200 mm shall be insulated
and finished with Insulating and Finishing Cement to a thickness equal
to the adjoining pipe insulation. Fittings and valves for pipe sizes 200
mm and larger shall be insulated with segments of the molded insulation
wired securely in place and finished with a smoothing coat of finishing
cement.
4. Flanges and welded joints shall not be covered until the piping has been
hydrostatically tested per section 15510 of this specification.
2. Longitudinal open self sealing butt joint with pre-glued seal strips shall
be adhered neatly in place.
3. Ends of pipe insulation shall be sealed using a fuse seal gun and glue
sticks.
A. Note that ductwork and casings which are acoustically lined, as described
elsewhere, need not be insulated on the exterior.
1. Air supply system casings and plenums including all equipment from air
intake plenum to fan discharge 37 mm type D-2, (exceptions as noted on
plans).
3. Air conditioning supply and return air ducts in other than equipment
rooms - 37 mm type D-1.
5. All outside air ducts and plenums and plenums containing a percentage
of outside air on inlet side of air supply systems. 25 mm type D-2.
6. All pool supply ducts between walls of double wall ductwork (see
Section 15768) 37 mm type D-2.
A. All pipe sleeves and duct openings penetrating floor slabs, partitions, walls, etc.,
shall be packed with fiberglass and sealed with mineral wool.
1. Flexible duct insulation shall be 32 kg per cu. m. density glass fiber with
maximum K factor of 0.29 at 23C mean temperature, with reinforced
foil-faced, flame resistant kraft vapor barrier.
2. Insulation shall be secured with duct adhesive. All joints shall be sealed
by adhering a 50 mm sealing lap at all joints with vapor barrier adhesive
3. Exposed round ducts shall have a white vinyl reinforced foil vapor
barrier. Application same except wires shall be omitted and blanket
shall be secured by stapling 50 mm longitudinal lap. Staples shall be
coated with vapor barrier coating.
1. Rigid duct insulation shall be 96 kg per cu. m. density glass fiber with
maximum K factor of .24 at 23C mean temperature with ASJ exposed
vapor barrier facing.
3. All joints and voids in the insulation shall be filled with Mineral Wool
Cement. All joints, speed washers and breaks in the vapor barrier shall
be sealed with 75 mm wide strips of the vapor barrier facing adhered
with vapor barrier adhesive.
4. Exposed ductwork shall have a white vinyl reinforced foil vapor barrier
facing. Care shall be taken in sealing joints speed washers, etc., with
matching 75 mm or 125 mm tape of vapor barrier to insure good
appearance.
3. Exposed ducts shall have white vinyl, reinforced foil facing. Secured
by stapling a 50 mm longitudinal lap and eliminate wire.
A. The following Cold Equipment shall be insulated with vapor barrier board
insulation using Type E-1 insulation:
B. The following hot equipment and system components shall be insulated with
high temperature block insulation using Type E-3 insulation:
2. Flues - 50 mm.
C. Type E-1 Glass Fiber Rigid Equipment Insulation with Vapor Barrier.
1. Insulation shall be 96 kg per cu. m. density glass fiber with vapor barrier
facing and having a maximum K factor of 0.24 at 23C mean
temperature.
2. Insulation shall be firmly held in place with copper-clad wire or pins and
clips on 300 mm centers.
3. All joints and voids in the insulation shall be filled with mineral wool
cement. All joints and breaks in the vapor barrier shall be sealed with
strips of the vapor barrier facing adhered with vapor barrier adhesive.
4. Finish shall consist of imbedding an open weave glass fabric (20 x 20)
