• OSHA 29 CFR 1910.145 (accident prevention signs and tags)
• CEMA 201 (safety label brochure – guide for label placement)

3.2. Risk Assessment

 All supplied equipment shall have a formal risk assessment identifying the initial and
collateral hazards, stating the hazard mitigation techniques and stating the residual
hazards.
 When a safety related control system (SRCS) is applied to mitigate a hazard (e.g. an
emergency stop) and documented in the risk assessment, the required ISO 13849
performance level for the system shall be stated.
 The Supplier of stand-alone equipment shall create and deliver a declaration of
conformity file after testing is completed and before shipment.
 The Supplier of equipment to be integrated into a complete system shall create and
deliver a declaration of incorporation file after testing is completed and before
shipment.

3.3. Essential Safeguarding

 All physical hazards as defined in ASME B15.1 shall be guarded in accordance with
the standard regardless of location at the top, bottom, sides or ends of the
equipment. Allowed exceptions as defined in ASME B20.1.
 Guarding shall be permanently fastened in place or if removable shall use fasteners
not readily removable by people other than authorized persons.
 All snubber pulleys or rollers shall be guarded. A snubber is defined as any pulley
or roller which changes the direction of the belt 10 degrees or more.
 All non snubber pulleys or return idler rollers that do not provide 2-1/2 inches or more
belt displacement from the contact point shall be guarded.
 All drive guards shall completely enclose the hazard areas in accordance with ASME
B15.1 including the backing plate and other areas not normally visible.
 Adjustable guarding shall have prominent adjustment labels affixed to the guard or in
close viewable proximity. Such labels shall conform to the ANSI Z-535 series of
standards.
 Spill guarding (guard rail) shall be 2/3 height of tallest conveyed product to comply
with CEMA guidelines

2 059 (11/17)
 When equipment is supplied with a complete SRCS, the ISO 13849 performance
level shall be calculated by the Supplier. The calculations shall be delivered to and
approved by a Dematic representative before manufacturing begins. The approval
process period shall be included in the promised delivery date.
 When equipment is supplied with a partial SRCS, the ISO 13849 data for all related
parts shall be collected by the Supplier. The data shall be delivered to and approved
by a Dematic representative before manufacturing begins. The approval process
period shall be included in the promised delivery date.
 Robotic systems shall be designed in accordance with the latest version ANSI/RIA
Standard for Industrial Robots and Robot Systems – Safety Requirements.

4. Mechanical
 Pulleys or rollers which can be adjusted for squaring or tracking are preferred to
have those adjustments accessible from outside guarded areas. If this is not
possible, then adequate instruction for adjustment shall be included in the service
manuals.

5. Electrical and Controls

5.1. General Requirements

 Control voltages shall be either 120VAC or 24VDC depending on application and

specified in the request for quote.

5.2. Wiring Requirements

 Wiring shall be to UL requirements. Wire identification (color or other) shall meet the
requirements of NFPA 79. When wire marking is used, it shall be at both ends of the
conductor.
 All shielded cables shall have clear tubing over the shield drain wire(s) and heat
shrink on the end of the cable jacket.
 Conductors and cables shall be run without splices from terminal to terminal.
 Terminal blocks shall be wired and mounted so the internal and external wiring does
not cross over the terminals.
 Not more than two conductors shall be terminated at each terminal connection,
unless further restricted by the manufacturer’s specifications or UL.
 Wiring to doors and other moving surfaces shall be bundled and routed in a
workmanlike fashion such that the wiring is not subject to bending stresses.
 All main supply connections to the machine shall be designed and made in
accordance with the latest version of the National Electric Code.
 All intra-machine and inter-machine connections shall be designed and made in
accordance with the latest version of the NFPA 79.

3 059 (11/17)
 The emergency stop circuit shall be provided with contacts to hardwire interlock to
and from external E-Stop systems. The number of contacts for each interlock will
align with the ISO 13849 architecture applied to reach the required performance
level.

5.3. Settings and Programming

 All devices which have dip switch settings and/or jumper settings shall be set
according to the electrical diagrams.
 All motor starter overloads and combination starter-protectors shall be set according
to the electrical diagrams (115% motor FLA unless otherwise specified).
 Included PLCs shall be fully programmed and tested.
 Device ID labels are to be located directly adjacent to the device as shown on
drawing. Labels are not to be placed on wireway covers.
 All labels, charts, placards, terminal block labels, and legends, etc must be printed or
engraved, handwritten labels are not acceptable.

5.4. Control Cabinets

This section is only applicable if a control cabinet is included with the equipment:

 Constructed from NEMA 12 enclosures.

 Designed and labeled to UL 508A Standards for Industrial Control Cabinets
satisfying the Industrial Machinery section
 All devices to be UL listed or UL recognized for the intended use.
 An external programming port is recommended and preferred to be supplied on the
cabinet exterior for the PLC and any other programmable devices located in the
cabinet to eliminate opening of cabinet door to commission PLC. This feature helps
to comply with arc flash hazard reduction and personal protective equipment
requirements.
 Subpanels and doors shall be bonded per UL requirements and per the drawings. If
a bonding conductor is used it shall be a minimum size of #12. If metal to metal
contact is used the painted surfaces shall be scraped clean and star washers used.
 All components in the control cabinet shall be identified with device tags to
correspond with the identification numbers shown on cabinet design drawings and
wiring diagrams.
 All edges shall be filed to be free from sharp edges, flash, or burrs.
 All exposed edges that the insulation of the conductors may come in contact with
shall be covered with an industry approved material, such as nylon edging, etc.
