Job Title: IELTS Invigilator

Department: International Office – all exams currently take place on Jubilee Campus

Rate of Pay: £10.20 per hour

Purpose of Role: IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to
assess the language ability of candidates who want to study or work where
English is the language of communication.

This position is available on an ongoing, casual basis and successful


candidates will invigilate the listening, reading and writing IELTS exams
taken by candidates at The University of Nottingham Test Centre. It is
necessary for all invigilators to strictly adhere to and enforce IELTS rules
and regulations at all times.

Hours of Work: IELTS examinations take place once or twice a month throughout the year
and we expect invigilators to be available for at least one of the Test
Centre’s pre-arranged Saturdays every month from 08:00-14:00.

Main Responsibilities:

1 Successfully complete an initial training day before being approved as an IELTS


Invigilator.
2 Take responsibility for test room security, administration, checking of test materials and
setting up the exam room. Ensure all electronic equipment is functioning.
3 Seating and assisting candidates with queries.
4 Carry out the registration and verification of candidates’ identification according to IELTS
regulations and timescales. This includes passport checks, finger-printing and
photographing of candidates using biometric software.
5 Invigilation of the listening, reading and writing modules. Ensure exam conditions are
met at all times.
6 Provide exam instructions clearly and confidently to up to 120 candidates using a
prepared script.
7 Maintain security and discipline at all times. Identify instances of malpractice and respond
according to IELTS procedures.
8 Deal with problems/queries during the exam by following the required guidelines.
9 Provide a high level of customer service to candidates.
10 Assist candidates with special arrangements. In order to meet the specific requirements,
this may involve one-to-one invigilation in a separate exam room.
11 Attend all training sessions arranged by the Centre.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

Essential Desirable
Educated to A-level (or equivalent). Previous experience of invigilation.
Advanced command of spoken and written Previous experience working in an IELTS
English (- if non-native this should be Test Centre.
equivalent to IELTS 8.0). Able to deliver
information and demonstrate instructions in
a clear and confident manner to up to 120
candidates.
Strong intercultural communication skills Knowledge of IELTS and what it entails.

Understand the need for confidentiality and
be willing to sign the relevant ‘Code of
Practice’ and ‘Confidentiality Undertaking’
documents.
Available to work on at least one of the
Test Centre’s pre-arranged Saturdays each
month throughout the year.

Please note that taking on this role will restrict you from taking an IELTS test within 6 months
of your last invigilation session.

It will be necessary for all applicants to be available on the following dates:


 Interview: Thursday 18 or Friday 19 June 2015
 Training session: Monday 29 June 2015 (all day)
 Upcoming invigilation dates (-must be available for at least 1 date per month):
4 July, 11 July, 1 August, 8 August, 12 September & 19 September 2015
(- the remaining invigilation dates for 2015 will be released in due course)
