System description

2 System description
A standard PROFICLOUD application comprises at least one PROFICLOUD coupler, a
PROFICLOUD device, and a PROFINET controller.

PROFINET controller The PROFINET controller can be purchased from any controller manufacturer as long as
the device in question complies with the PROFINET specification.

PROFICLOUD coupler The PROFICLOUD coupler connects the local PROFINET network to the PROFICLOUD by
CLOUD COUPLER-PRO means of two Ethernet interfaces: the PROFICLOUD coupler is connected with the local
PROFINET network via the first Ethernet interface. The second Ethernet interface connects
the PROFICLOUD coupler to the Internet. The PROFICLOUD coupler initializes a connec-
tion with the PROFICLOUD automatically and is ready for use after a short amount of time.
The PROFICLOUD coupler must be registered in the PROFICLOUD with a UUID (Univer-
sally Unique Identifier). The PROFINET network then commences communication via the
PROFICLOUD.

PROFICLOUD devices PROFICLOUD devices are also connected to the Internet and are coupled automatically to
AXC CLOUD-PRO the PROFICLOUD.
The PROFICLOUD devices must each be registered in the PROFICLOUD with a UUID (Uni-
versally Unique Identifier) and must be assigned to a PROFICLOUD coupler. The
PROFINET network then commences communication via the PROFICLOUD.

System description

A typical PROFICLOUD system consists of a local PROFINET network, which is connected

to the PROFICLOUD via the PROFICLOUD coupler CLOUD COUPLER-PRO. Distributed
PROFICLOUD devices can be deployed all over the world (see Figure 2-2).
The encryption protocol TLS (Transport Layer Security) is used to ensure secure communi-
cation between the PROFICLOUD devices.
The PROFICLOUD allows you to use services from the Internet or PROFICLOUD services
developed in house in the PROFINET network. The services are represented and handled
in the PROFINET network as PROFINET devices. For example, weather data can be re-
trieved from the Internet by means of a weather service.
Another example of the use of Internet services is the outsourcing of highly resource-con-
suming calculations to the PROFICLOUD. With the CLOUD SERVICE/CALC calculation
service, calculations can be sent to the PROFINET network as input process data using
MATLAB® notation. The results are returned in the form of output process data.

3.1.5 Mode selector switch

The mode selector switch is used to define the operating state of the AXC CLOUD-PRO.
The PROG and CLOUD positions have a toggle button function and the DREG position a
pushbutton function. After releasing the switch in the DREG position, it returns to the
CLOUD position.
The application program is processed in each operating mode. The PC Worx software can
be used for program and configuration modifications as well as for the online monitoring
function.

The application program is not processed if an error has occurred in the AXC CLOUD-
PRO or if the application program has been stopped by PC Worx.

Please note:
Each time the operating mode is changed, the AXC CLOUD-PRO is restarted and the
AXC CLOUD-PRO attempts to establish a connection to the PROFICLOUD.

PROG PLC mode
The AXC CLOUD-PRO is used like a controller of type AXC 1050; the
PROFINET functions are currently not supported. The Ethernet inter-
faces can be used for programming.
If there is a connection to the Internet, communication with the
PROFICLOUD is active.
CLOUD PROFICLOUD mode
Only communication with the PROFICLOUD is possible. The Ethernet
interfaces cannot be used for other communication.
However, the Ethernet interfaces can be used by means of the applica-
tion program.
DREG Deregistration from PROFICLOUD
If the AXC CLOUD-PRO is connected to the PROFICLOUD (the
CLOUD LED lights up), you can deregister the AXC CLOUD-PRO from
the PROFICLOUD as follows:
• Hold down the mode selector switch (for approx. four seconds) in
DREG position until the CLOUD LED begins to flash.
The AXC CLOUD-PRO is restarted. After restarting, the device is
deregistered from the PROFICLOUD and can be registered in another

3.1.6 Reset button (concealed)

2 8482A006
Figure 3-4 Reset button (1, concealed)

The reset button on the AXC CLOUD-PRO can only be operated with a pointed object (e.g.,
a pen) and is therefore protected against accidental activation.
If the reset button is actuated during operation, the AXC CLOUD-PRO is restarted. Further-
more, if you carry out a voltage reset simultaneously as you press the reset button, this
causes the controller to completely reset.

Reset • Switch off the supply voltage of the AXC CLOUD-PRO.

The LEDs go out.
• Press the reset button.
• Hold down the reset button and switch the supply voltage on.
• Release the reset button only after the RUN LED flashes quickly (item 2 in Figure 3-4).
The device is now completely reset. The DBG LED then begins to flash and the
AXC CLOUD-PRO sends a DHCP request. The process has been completed once the
RUN LED flashes slowly.
The AXC CLOUD-PRO has been initialized and reset successfully. The control function is
in the READY/STOP state; a program is not processed.

NOTE: No automatic startup of the Axioline F local bus

In the default settings, the AXC CLOUD-PRO contains an application program for the au-
tomatic startup of the Axioline F local bus. When the AXC CLOUD-PRO is completely re-
set, the application program is deleted. Automatic startup of the Axioline F local bus is
then no longer possible.

PROFICLOUD

3.1.9 Automatic startup of the Axioline F local bus

A maximum of 63 Axioline F modules (for ordering data see Section “Accessories” on

page 84) can be connected to a PROFICLOUD device of type AXC CLOUD-PRO. The
maximum number of Axioline F modules that can be operated depends on the current con-
sumption of the modules. The total current consumption of all devices arranged on the
AXC CLOUD-PRO must not exceed the maximum current that the AXC CLOUD-PRO sup-
plies for the local bus (2 A).

NOTE: Electronics may be damaged if overloaded

Observe the current consumption of each Axioline F device when configuring the
Axioline F station. It is specified in every module-specific data sheet and may vary. As
such, the permissible number of devices that can be connected therefore depends on the
station structure.

The PC Worx software is not necessary for starting up a PROFICLOUD device

AXC CLOUD-PRO. During a warm start, the AXC CLOUD-PRO reads the connected
Axioline F local bus devices automatically and puts them into operation. The process data
of the Axioline F modules are transmitted to the PROFICLOUD as input and output bytes.
The input and output bytes are then retrieved from the PROFICLOUD by a PROFICLOUD
coupler and sent to the PROFINET network.
Table 3-4 shows the input and output bytes and their meanings.

Table 3-4 Meanings of the input and output bytes

1 Low-byte diagnostic code 1 –
2 Additional high-byte diagnostic code 2 –
3 Additional low-byte diagnostic code 3 –
4 ... 255 Input process data 4 ... 255 Output process data

Up to 252 bytes of input and output process data can be sent to the PROFICLOUD. The
AXC CLOUD-PRO supports local bus devices with up to 16 bytes each in process data
length.

Only the I/O modules listed under “Accessories” on page 84 can be used.

In addition to the input and output process data, the AXC CLOUD-PRO also sends diagnos-
tics information of the local bus to the PROFICLOUD. This information is sent in the form of
diagnostic code.
For some diagnostic codes, an additional diagnostic code is generated in order to specify
the error encountered in more detail.
The diagnostic codes are issued in the input bytes 0 ... 1, and the additional diagnostic
codes in the input bytes 2 ... 3 (see Table 3-4).

Mounting and power supply of the hardware

4.1.3 Sizing of the power supply

Choose a power supply unit that is suitable for the currents in your application. The selection
depends on the bus configuration and the resulting maximum currents.

A power supply without a fall-back characteristic curve must be used for correct op-
eration of the PROFICLOUD device (see Figure 4-8).
When the PROFICLOUD device is switched on, an increased switch-on current is tempo-
rarily triggered. The PROFICLOUD device behaves like a capacitive load when it is
switched on.

WARNING: Loss of electrical safety when using unsuitable power supplies

The AXC CLOUD-PRO is designed exclusively for protective extra-low voltage (PELV)
operation according to EN 60204-1. Only PELV according to the defined standard may be
used for supply purposes.
The following applies to the network (PROFINET) and the I/O devices used in it:
Only use power supply units that meet EN 61204 and that ensure safe isolation with PELV
according to EN 50178 or EN 61010-2-201. Short-circuits between primary and second-
ary sides are prevented in these power supply units.

Some electronically controlled power supplies have a fall-back characteristic curve (see
Figure 4-7). They are not suitable for operation with capacitive loads.

4.1.4 Connecting the power supply

Power the PROFICLOUD device with an external 24 V DC voltage supply. The permissible
voltage ranges from 19.2 V DC to 30 V DC (ripple included).
The power consumption of the PROFICLOUD device at 24 V DC is typically 3 W (no local
bus devices connected).

Only use power supplies that are suitable for operation with capacitive loads (increased
switch-on current) (see Section “Sizing of the power supply” on page 43).

1. Connect the power supply to the supply plug, as described in Section “Mounting” on
page 40.
Please observe the information in Section “Supply plug” on page 21.
2. Switch on the power supply.
– Behavior of the device LEDs when switching on for the first time (default setting):
– The UL LED lights up. The FAIL LED flashes briefly then the DBG LED flashes for
around 30 seconds. Then the D LED is permanently on and the RUN LED starts
flashing.
– If the PROFICLOUD device is connected to the PC Worx software online, and you
have entered the MAC address of the AXC CLOUD-PRO in the “IP Settings” tab in
the “Device Details” window and the BootP server is also activated in PC Worx, the
DBG LED will only flash for around 10 seconds. Then the D LED is permanently on
and the RUN LED starts flashing.
– Behavior of the device LEDs when a program is present on the AXC CLOUD-PRO and
the IP address settings have been assigned:
The FAIL LED lights up briefly then the DBG LED starts flashing. When the
AXC CLOUD-PRO starts up without errors, the DBG LED goes out after around
30 seconds and the RUN and D LEDs are permanently on.
The AXC CLOUD-PRO is now fully initialized.
If the LEDs do not light up or do not start flashing, there is a serious error in the
AXC CLOUD-PRO. In this case, please contact Phoenix Contact.

4.1.5 Assigning the PROFINET device name

The PROFINET device name is the unique identification for the device in the PROFINET
network. The PROFINET device name must be known to the device before it can be used
in the PROFINET network or via the PROFICLOUD.
• Assign a unique and meaningful PROFINET device name for the AXC CLOUD-PRO.

tion. The web interface is available in English.

5.1 License model

In order to use devices in the PROFICLOUD, you will need a valid runtime license for each
account. Various paid runtime licenses are available with different balances.

License for an account A license for an account includes a balance of a certain number of units. For each con-
nected PROFICLOUD device, one unit is deducted from this balance every hour.
Four different runtime licenses for an account are available (for ordering data, see Section
“Accessories” on page 84).

License for a virtual In order to use a virtual PROFICLOUD device, you will need a license for each
PROFICLOUD device PROFICLOUD service. Two different runtime licenses for PROFICLOUD services are avail-
able (for ordering data, see Section “Accessories” on page 84).
A UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) is printed on the license card. The UUID is used for:
– activating the PROFICLOUD service or registering the PROFICLOUD device in the
PROFICLOUD (see Section 5.5.1)

A PROFICLOUD services

A1 CLOUD SERVICE/WEATHER

With the PROFICLOUD service CLOUD SERVICE/WEATHER you can access weather in-
formation from the Internet via a weather service.

The weather data serve as forecast values only. Phoenix Contact does not guarantee the
correctness or completeness of the data.

The PROFICLOUD service is treated as a virtual PROFICLOUD device in the

PROFICLOUD system. The virtual PROFICLOUD device has the device ID 0132hex.
Using the input process data, you can define the location for which weather information is
retrieved.
Table A-1 shows the input process data:

Table A-1 Input process data of the PROFICLOUD service
