Skill Requrirement:

It is likely that the job holder will possess significant level 2 UNIX system
administration experience
1. Professional qualification as an AIX Certified Systems Administrator
2. It is likely that the job holder will possess significant AIX systems
administration experience in a large scale server environment
3. Some experience to Solaris would be advantageous
4. Significant experience with pSeries servers including hardware builds, from
entry level POWER4 and POWER5 servers up to the current P595 servers
5. Demonstrable competence in the following components: AIX 5L system
administration, HACMP, Micro-partitioning, VIO, HMC, NIM, LPAR, WLM,
CSM, SAN Storage, OpenSSH, Apache and Performance Tuning. General
UNIX skills should include shell scripting, Perl, DNS, NFS, security, TCP/IP,
networking and SAN storage
6. Experience of problem and change control management processes including
use of applications such as Remedy
7. Strong inter-personal and communication skills
8. Independent problem solving skills, demonstrating initiative and self
motivation

Key Responsibilities:

To be a team member in Visa Europe’s Unix Server Support team, within the
Data Centre environment. To provide 2nd/3rd level support and maintenance of
IBM AIX and Sun Solaris hardware, operating systems, and third party products,
including on-call, out of hours 24x7 support. To liaise with the Information
Security group. To engage with and deploy development and engineering
products to ensure that delivered solutions are supportable.
n Incident/Problem Management – using Visa Europe’s problem management
system (Remedy), provide technical expertise for hardware and software
problem diagnosis, liaising with vendors and other Visa teams where
necessary, to ensure that all problems are resolved professionally and with
minimal operational impact:
- Support and maintenance of all UNIX servers across AIX and Solaris
supporting service level agreements
- Respond to Remedy requests and incidents
- Respond to other ad-hoc requests for support (e.g. developer support,
telephone queries and ad-hoc email requests)
- Provide on-call, out of hours 24x7 support
- Identify, recommend and implement improvements to processes
n Produce and manage documentation for support, maintenance and
integration of policies, processes and procedures for UNIX. Assist in the up
keep and maintenance of the UNIX hardware and software inventories on the
UNIX Team’s web server, and the Team’s documentation repositories
1. Ensure that all changes are performed professionally, under Visa Europe’s
change management system and implemented with minimal impact to
operational systems
2. Raise and deliver Remedy changes
3. Physical receipt, build and deployment of servers
4. Code / application / product deployment
5. UNIX operational acceptance testing / non-functional testing prior to
production acceptance
6. Identify, recommend and implement improvements to this process
7. Understand and apply UNIX security policies in accordance with published
guidelines
8. Security vulnerability monitoring – receipt of IBM / Sun / third party alerts and
patches
9. Package and patch build
10. Patch deployment and patch management
11. Perform performance and capacity monitoring and management
Vendor management liaison (e.g. monthly operational review meetings)
