53rd SCHOLARS’ WEEK – “LEVEL UP: Developing Scholars’ Potentials Toward


Holistic Greatness”

Rationale:

In the celebration of the 53rd Scholars’ Week, the Kapatiran ng Talino at Galing PUP
Honors’ Society and the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Services aim to uphold
the notion of advancement of scholars’ ability to enable them reach the ‘holistic growth’
that everyone should have. In line with this, we want to engage the scholars with the
activities which involve charity work, learning new ideas and series of tests to measure
their abilities as a students and as individuals.

Project Title: Sharing Is Caring”: The PUP Scholars’ Gift-Giving Project 2019

Date: February 18, 2019

Time: 1pm-5pm

Venue: Manila Boystown(Kids’ Dormitory)

Rationale:

The Valentine season serves as a reminder that sharing the things, knowledge and
blessings to other people signifies that we care for them. This also enables us to feel
the sense of fulfillment whenever we make our family, friends and colleagues happy on
the presents and love. But since Valentines is not all about making our love ones happy,
the Kapatiran ng Talino at Galing PUP Honors’ Society together with the office of the
Scholarship and Financial Assistance Services seek to make hearts month of the kids of
Manila Boystown a remarkable one by giving presents and imparting rich ideas to them
that could shape and make their futures even brighter.

OBJECTIVE:

a. General- To enlighthen the minds of the youth about the beautiful concept
of sharing and the importance of having dreams to look forward in the
future.
b. Specific- To mold a good perspective towards development despite of the
present factors that inhibits them to have such.

Resources needed:

-Food, Gifts, Art Materials(for Stage Design and Christmas Cards) & Prizes(for Games).

Processes/Methodology:

-Series of games will be conducted for the kids to enjoy.

-By telling creative story and discussing the moral lesson of such.

-Personal interaction with the kids through group conversations/dialogues.

Project Title: PUPIAN AKO KAYA KO YEAR 12-Iskooling: Unlocking Capabilities


Through Scholastic Disciplines

Date: February 20, 2019

Time: 1pm-5pm

Venue: NALLRC-Bulwagang Balagtas/Claro M. Recto Hall

Rationale:

Being a scholar is not just a title that we should be proud of, but also a huge
responsibility wherein we are expected to do the things that we were ought to be doing.
In this regard, we often hear the word “scholarly” during meetings, seminars and
projects spearheaded by the SFAS.

Thus, on the 12th year of PUPian Ako Kaya Ko, we want to venture the different
scholastic disciplines that scholars should possess. Incorporating such disciplines with
the distinct phases of life during their stay in the institution, we wish to inculcate to them
the art of developing their capabalities in which will lead them to success.

With the topics Dream, Hone and Harvest, the scholars are expected to be enlightened
on the steps or tips on how they could maximize their potentials.

OBJECTIVE:

c. General- To provide sufficient knowledge or ideas on how and what to do


on the different stages of life as a scholar.
d. Specific- To develop new strategies in dealing with the problems
encountered as a scholar by applying the different scholastic disipline.
Resources needed:

-Projector, Laptop, Extension Cords, Frames(For Certificates), Token for Speakers &
Special papers(for certificates).

Processes/Methodology:

-Interactive discussion between the students and the speakers.

-Impactful Presentation of Topics

Title: SCHOLARS’ ACADEMIC CONTEST: General Information Quiz Bee

(Proposed by VPAA-Dominic Cardoniga)

Date: February 21, 2019

Time: 8am-12nn

Venue: COED Multimedia Room

Rationale:

The Scholars’ Week General information Quiz Bee is an annual competition which aims
to sharpen the minds of students and enhance their competitiveness towards a goal.
The activity will demonstrate the range of general facts in different subjects such as
science, mathematics, literature, Philippine and world history, arts, and current events.
Further, the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship would also be enhanced.

OBJECTIVE:

-To challenge the participants’ mind and expand their knowledge about general facts in
different fields such as science, mathematics, literature, Philippine and world history,
arts, and current events.

-To enhance and develop the knowledge and skills of the students on what they have
learned on their respective subjects.

-To encourage independent study and academic excellence.

Resources needed:

1. Cardboard
Where the contestants will answer.
2. Rags

Will serve as eraser.

3. Chalk
What the contestants will use to write the answers.
4. Laptop
Contains the questions and answers of the game.
5. Projector

Will be used to flash the questions and the answers.

Processes/Methodology:

-This will be an individual contest having 3 rounds (Easy, Average, and Difficult) with 10
questions per each round

- This is a betting quiz bee, for every questions they will bet the corresponding number
of points. Betting for easy will be 5 points, average 10 points, and difficult 15 points.

- Each participant will have an initial of 50 points to start with.

- If the participant answers the question correctly, the points that they had bet will be
added to their points. But if they got an incorrect or no answer, the points will be
deducted to them.

- The participants will be given 2 chalks, 1 illustration board, and a rag for them to
answer the questions. They will be given specific time to answer and they can only
answer after the quiz master say so.

- Once their points reached negative, they are automatically eliminated in the
competition.

- If all participants are eliminated, then there will be no winner.

Title: SCHOLARS’ ACADEMIC CONTEST: Rebus Guessing Game

(Proposed by EVP- Marizen Tamondong)

Date: February 21, 2019

Time: 1pm-5pm

Venue: COED Multimedia Room

A Rebus is a picture representation of a name, word, or phrase. Every “Rebus”


puzzle depicts a common word, phrase or expression. Rebus puzzles employ graphic
detail that formulates a distinctive twist on words or parts of words that are long familiar.

Objective:

To analyze the whole image in order to get the meaning out of the composite

concepts wherein it has the ability to sharpens the memory system of the student in

developing and improving the processing speed of mind.

Materials Needed: Puzzle Round (Projector and Laptop), Scoring Board

(Projector and Laptop or Whiteboard and whiteboard marker), Registration Form,

Microphone and Speaker (if available) ; Participants: Illustration Boards (1/8)

Chalk, Eraser

Rounds: 4 (Easy, Average, Difficult) + Overtime Round (Tiebreaker)

Time Duration: Five (5) Puzzles per round

Easy (5 seconds)

Average (10 seconds)

Difficult (15 seconds)

Scoring (Points):Easy (10 pts – 2pts each) Passing Score: Five (5)

Average (15 pts – 3 pts each) Passing Score: Eight (8)

Difficult (25 pts – 5 pts each) Passing Score: Fifteen (15)

Overtime Round (30 pts – 10 pts each)

Participants: 50 students

Instructions:

Participants should answer the rebus puzzles. The easy round has five puzzles. Each
puzzle contains two (2) points. The passing score is half of the total score. Participants
who can get a passing score are only qualified to the next round or the average round.
The scoring is back to zero. Participants should answer the rebus puzzles. The average
round has five puzzles. Each puzzle contains three (3) points. The passing score is half
of the total score. Participants who can get a passing score are only qualified to the next
round or the difficult round. The scoring is back to zero. Participants should answer the
rebus puzzles. The difficult round has five puzzles. Each puzzle contains five (5) points.
The passing score is half of the total score. Participant/s who has/ve a high score shall
win the competition. But, if there’s a tiebreaker for the participants, there will be another
overtime round. The overtime round contains three puzzles and each puzzle has 10
points. The scoring is back to zero. Whoever can get a highest score in the overtime
round shall win the competition and take the award as ‘Game Master’.
