Guidelines For Marking Section A


Information Transfer

Tasks :

1. To transfer information from one text type into a given framework.


2. Pupils must transfer the information intelligently, accurately and appropriately to the
given framework.
3. Content points are given if the core information is correctly selected and placed. Marks for
content would still be awarded if minor errors are made. Errors in spelling, punctuation and
structure are marked down..
4 .Pupils must be able to use correct tenses and structure in their answer.

SUGGESTED MARKING SCHEME FOR WRITING PAPER SECTION B (ii)

MARKS SCORING CRITERIA


 Can write with an excellent level of accuracy.
A  Excellent use of the language.
10-12  Variety of sentence structures,
Excellent e.g. simple, compound and complex.
 All sentences are grammatically correct.
 New words and phrases used correctly.
 Hardly any spelling and punctuation errors.
 Can write with a good level of accuracy.
B  Proficient use of the language.
7-9  New words used correctly.
Credit  A few spelling and punctuation errors.
 Two or three grammatical errors found.
 Can write with a satisfactory level of accuracy.
C  Good use of the language.
4-6  Language and vocabulary enough to convey meaning.
Achievement  A few grammatical errors.
 Some spelling and punctuation errors.
 Can write with a limited level of accuracy.
D  Limited use of the language and vocabulary.
1-3  Limited ideas found with structural errors but still able to convey
Low meaning.
achievement  Numerous spelling and punctuation errors found.
0  Blank script / Script does not make sense / e.g. rewriting the rubrics

21 – 25  Shows variety in sentence patterns with correct and suitable word order.

 Hardly any grammatical, punctuation or spelling errors

B  Task fulfilled
 attempts to add or use new vocabulary with a little confusion shown
13 – 20  uses simple and compound sentences
Credit  meaning is mostly clear
 variety in sentence structure and correct word order
 few grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors

C  Task is almost fulfilled


 Incomplete information and unclear structure
6 – 12  Mostly correct word order
Achievement  some confusion of meaning
