advised. This is to commemorate the
Malvern A&P Association's 120th Annual
Show.

MEASURING:
Where height is a requirement of the
Section, exhibitors must carry an official
RAS Life or Horse/Pony Annual Height and
Performance Card, or Malvern A&P Assn
Temporary Measuring Certificate (TMC).
Failure to do so will result in elimination.
Measuring for a TMC is for Malvern Show
District Boundary Competitors only, will be
available on the grounds. Only horses/ponies
presented in a bridle and under suitable
control will be measured for a TMC, at the
times stated above.
(3) CLEAN SPORT:
Clean Sport - The rules of the Royal A&P
Society New Zealand in regard to Clean Sport
forbidden substances may be carried out
during the Show/Event and that testing of all
animals is at the person responsible's risk.
Forbidden Substance - Any substance capable
of affecting the speed, stamina, courage or
conduct or a horse, pony, donkey or mule by
its action upon the central or peripheral
nervous system or the cardio-vascular,
respiratory, alimentary, digestive,
muscoskeletal or urogenital systems.
(4) NOVICE CLASSIFICATION
A Novice is a Horse or Pony which has not
won 6 firsts in conformation classes at any A &
P Show at the time of the Show (Ladies and
Gentleman's Hack class wins count as an
Open Conformation win and must be
recorded). If a Novice entry has gained 6 wins
by the day of the Show, the Competitor must
advise the Secretary and may change to an
Open class within the Sub-Section, or if no
class remains to enter a refund which will be
actioned after the Show.
A Novice Hunter is a Horse or Pony which has
not won 6 firsts in Hunter Jumping.
Please note that a record of wins will be asked
for. Horse/Pony height and performance cards
must be carried. Failure to do so will result in
elimination.
Central Districts of the RAS collates all A & P
Show results to enable Secretaries to keep a
record of all Novice wins.
Novices may enter the Open Classes.
All Novice Horses and Ponies to be ridden in a
snaffle bit.
It is compulsory for all stallions and colts,
except foals, to wear two (2) official "S"
identification badges. One attached to each
side of their bridle, at all Shows/Events at all
times. The rider/handler must also wear two
(2) RAS official armbands (one on each arm)
when in the ring. "S" badges are to be
purchased from RAS Head Office or ESNZ;
armbands are available from RAS Head
Office. Handlers and Riders of stallions/colts
must wear an approved Hi Viz vest at
Shows/Events when outside the show ring.
Vests can be purchased from RAS Head
Office.
(5) DISTRICT RULE
Horse and rider must reside in District to
compete in District Classes.
DEFINITION OF MALVERN DISTRICT
COUNTY:

Area between the Waimakariri River to the
Rakaia River. West side of Intake Road, South
side of the Old West Coast Road from Intake
Road to Sandy Knolls Road; West side of
Sandy Knolls Road down to West side of

Main South Road from Burnham to the Selwyn

(6) OWNERSHIP
All horses and ponies entered in competitive
classes or ring events or parading must be in
the name of the bona fide owner. All animals
must be named at time of entry.
(7) LEASES
Leases or partnerships must be for no less
than a six-month period and shall commence
and must be lodged with the RAS.
(8) HATS AND SAFETY HELMETS
a) In all cases current WorkSafe New Zealand
rules prevail.
b) All riders, including harness drivers/with the
exclusion of heavy horse (Clydesdale) working
classes, competing at RAS affiliated A&P
Shows/Events must wear protective headgear,
which includes a retaining harness secured to
the shell at more than two points. Such
headgear must be worn with the chinstrap
properly adjusted and fastened when in the
arena or ring, the practice area, collecting
rings or anywhere else within a Showgrounds
or the grounds of an affiliated Event.
c) Hats/helmets must conform with one of the
current approved safety standards. These
standards may be subject to change but the
latest list can be found at http://www.ras.org.nz
– equestrian. RAS will advise any changes via
their website and Facebook.
d) All hats/helmets that conform as per c) must
be identified by the current tag system
implemented by NZPCA, ESNZ and RAS.
RED TAGGED HELMETS ARE
MANDATORY FOR ALL RIDERS WHEN
MOUNTED. NO RED TAG - NO ENTRY
INTO THE RING - NO EXCEPTION
(9) A JUDGES TRAVEL FUND has also been
introduced to assist with judges' travelling
expenses at $5 per competitor/exhibitor.
(10) The committee has the right to
amalgamate classes if insufficient entries.
(11) If fewer than three entries in a class, then
only second prize money will be paid out.

It is compulsory for all Jacks, except foals,
to wear two official "S" badges attached to
either side of the bridle or halter, and the
handler to war two armbands with an "S' on
each. In the case of Miniature Donkey
Jacks, 86cm and under, they must either be
shown in a bit or a halter with a stallion
chain. If utilizing the option of a halter and
a stallion chain, then the donkey's original
height certificate must be carried at the
time of showing, to show proof of height.
Donkey back numbers will be available
from the horse office (caravan, centre of
the main ring). There is a charge of $4.00
for the use of Association numbers, $2.00
of which will be refunded on the return of

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:
MYCOPLASMA BOVIS
1. Animals on properties under any suspicion
of exposure to Mycoplasma bovis should
not be transported to shows and events.
2. Animals showing clinical signs
of ANY disease should not be transported
to shows, as per normal biosecurity
practice.
3. Make sure your cattle are tagged and
registered with NAIT.
4. Keep your NAIT movements up-to-date and
accurate and record movements to and
from the event. Guidance is available on
nait.co.nz.
5. Practice good on-farm biosecurity and
clean and disinfect outerwear, boots and
equipment before attending a show or
event. On your return, clean and disinfect
again before taking outerwear, boots and
equipment back onto your farm. For more
information refer to the guidance
on mpi.govt.nz/bovis
6. Animals without a NAIT tag will be denied
entry to the event and non-compliance will
be reported to MPI.
7. Ensure that the stalls at the event are clean
when you arrive and when you leave. USE
the SAME stall - do not use a different stall
belonging to a different exhibitor at any
time during the event.
8. Give animals individual water – do not allow
animals to drink from shared water troughs.
9. Keep your cattle herd separate from other
exhibitor’s cattle and do not allow nose to
nose contact.
10. Each Stud/Farm to use a separate wash
bay/area.
11.Ensure that when your animals are tied in
the stalls they are being securely managed
by someone who is strong and skilled
enough.
TB STATUS - that all cattle entered for
showing, which are 3 months of age and over,
must be accompanied by a signed and dated
TB Declaration Card, along with a current TB
Test Certificate.
TB TESTING REQUIREMENTS: Declared TB
Movement Controlled Areas: Cattle 3 months
of age and over which are farmed or grazed
within a TB Movement Controlled Area, must
be negative to a TB test within 60 days prior to
the start of the Show.
FOR CATTLE BEING MOVED FROM 1 JULY
2012. A NAIT approved RFID tag will be
mandatory for all movements of cattle,
including day old calves. NAIT approved RFID
cattle tags are white only. Please do not
remove tags if cattle are identified with Animal
Health Board or MINDA tags.

Conditions of Entry:
1 All animals must belong to a clear TB herd
where whole herd testing is performed in
accordance with the AANZ voluntary TB
scheme. Copies of current TB certificates to be
enclosed with entry forms.
2 All alpacas entered in Championship
Classes must be registered with the IAR and
carry a brass ear tag displaying its
corresponding IAR number. Copies of
registration certificates are required to be
enclosed with the entry forms. Please note that
A1 forms are not acceptable.
3 The exhibitor is the owner(s) listed on the
alpaca's registration certificate. In the case of
a registered lease, the lessee is deemed the
owner.
4 The age of the alpaca is its age on the day of
the show.

Dog Trials
The Malvern A&P Assn request that all
dogs BE TREATED AS BELOW before
entering the showgrounds.
Dose all dogs with a praziquantel drug at
least 48 hours or within one month prior
to going. Carry some evidence of
treatment such as a treatment certificate
or receipt from vet.
Carry enough plastic bags to pick up and
remove dog faeces should your dog
defecate.
If you are going on public land near
sheep pasture please apply the same
policies to prevent the spread of sheep
measles.

mother, Mrs G W Cullen, Mrs Judith Earl-

competitor gaining most points in Dahlias.
A prize will be given to the most points in cut
flowers excluding roses.
