Coop Switzerland boycotts

Nestle
According to Swiss broadcaster RTS, Swiss retailer
Coop, along with five other members of AgeCore SA,
a Geneva-based purchasing alliance, have decided to
boycott a large number of Nestlé products in the hope
of striking a better deal on price.

Sales to AgeCore SA members, which include Coop

in Switzerland, Intermarché in France, Edeka in
Germany, Conad in Italy, Colruyt in Belgium and
Eroski in Spain, represents around 10% of Nestlé’s
sales in Europe and 2% of its global turnover,
according to Züricher Kantonalbank.

Urs Meier, a spokesperson from Coop, told the newspaper Tribune de Genève: “We don’t want
to be disadvantaged compared to retailers in other countries. We are requesting a partnership
based on fair terms and prices. It’s the only way we can offer an attractive range to our
customers.”

Coop is boycotting 150 products, including Thomy salad dressings, Cailler Perles chocolates,
Nescafé Azera coffee and pre-made Buitoni La Fina pizza doughs.
According to German radio station MDR, German supermarket Edeka, which has around 4,000
stores, stopped ordering 163 Nestlé products, including Vittel water, Maggi soups and Wagner
pizzas.
According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, AgeCore recently hired someone from
another retail purchasing group, someone who is likely to have insight into the prices other
retailers are paying.
