Ashtakavarga, a very popular and convenient technique for determining the strength of
planets, signs, etc. Basically it is often used in the practice of transits. On the basis of
ashtakavargi, many mathematical models for calculating life expectancy are built, etc.,
unfortunately, not all of them work very successfully. But in the definition of transits, it
gives very good results.
Ashtakavarga is built on the basis of bindu and rekha or points given by the planets to
each sign. To assess the influence of the planet in the horoscope, you should consider
how it is located from the ascending sign and the other nine planets in the
horoscope. The planet should be favorably located from most planets. Thus, settling
favorably from any planet in the horoscope, the planet receives a bindu or point. The
more favorably located it is from most planets, the more bindu it can receive. This type
of assessment is without doubt the most detailed and scientific, but it also requires a lot
of time and labor for calculation.
Using this calculation system for each planet is built Bhinnashtakavarga which shows
the relationship of the planets based on bindu with other planets. Thus, each planet,
while in the house, receives a certain number of bindu. The maximum number of
bindups a planet can receive is eight.
Basically, the planet is considered favorable if in its own ashtakavarge it gains more
than 4 bindu. In the case when the planet is gaining less than 4 bindu, it has a negative
effect on bhava. Adverse effects mainly will be reflected in poor health, wanderings,
bad reputation, disturbances of the mind, anguish, etc., the greatest suffering will be
the complete absence of bindu, respectively, as the number of bindu grows, the
negative effect will weaken. The effect also depends on what bhava the planet
takes. So, for example, if the planet is located in the 4th house (bhave), picks up 1, 2
or 3 bindu, a person will experience the suffering associated with the 4th house, as well
as events whose indicator (karaka) is this planet. If bhava is 10th, a person will break a
career, lose position and other troubles occur, related to professional activities. If, on
the contrary, the planet gains 5 or more bindu, the result will be the realization of
ambitions, the achievement of position, power and reputation. Even planets well-placed
in the horoscope, for example, in exaltation, etc., lose their power if they don’t gain
enough bindu in their astakavargs.
Here are brief characteristics of planets with a certain amount of bindu: (1) destruction,
(2) loss, (3) and (4) fear, (5) obtaining wealth, (6) Understanding the opposite sex, (7)
prosperity and (8) patronage of dignitaries or high government position.
Usually the questions that Ashtakavargs are addressed to are related to the areas
represented by the karakatwa-planets and bhavas:
The sun: what is connected with spiritual matters, personal influence and the father
The moon: the intellect and everything related to the mind and mother
Mercury: the ability to distinguish, speech, feelings of good and bad, knowledge
Twelfth: expenses, losses, sins, destruction of the body, moksha (spiritual liberation)
Arguing about the results according to the relevant indicator (karakatva) of the planet
or house (bhava), due attention should be paid to the general principles of
astrology. For example, the bhavas in which the destructive planets are located are
weakened, and those in which the favorable planets are located are strengthened.
The sum of all the points given by the planets for each house is called
sarvashtakavarga.
Effects will be bad up to 25 points, average 26-30, and good if above 30 points.
For example, if 10 is a house in sarvashtakarvag, weak, that is, it receives less than 25
bindu, then it will be difficult for a person to achieve career success, and this will
significantly affect the well-being of the entire horoscope.
Transits in Ashtakavarg and Bhinntaktakarge.
Also, when the planet passes through certain houses in transit, those houses that give
little bindu for this planet will give unfavorable results and vice versa.
But even if the sign is unfavorable, but there are at least a few points, they can
alleviate the adverse period of the planet’s transit. Since each point has a favorable
effect. In accordance with this sign are divided into eight parts in accordance with each
planet. They are calculated from the remoteness of the planet in orbit. Since Saturn is
the farthest planet, it will be the first planet.
Saturn (0 ° 00 - 3 ° 45)
Jupiter (3 ° 45 - 7 ° 30)
Passing through the point of the planet that gives bindu in this sign for this planet, the
adverse effect of the absence of bindu in bhava will not be felt.
A bad house in transit will not be so bad if it contains more than four favorable points
for the planet. Similarly, a good home in transit will not be so good if it contains 4 or
less than 4 favorable points. Even if a rasi map can contain many auspicious points,
however, the effects will not be good if it is the home of the fall of the planet, a hostile
or an Apachaya home. If a house has no favorable point in ashtakavarg of any planet, it
is likely that a person will be at risk of death when the planet transits through that
house.
The planet achieves the strongest influence, passing through the same degrees of birth,
which were at birth.
