Question 4
Read the letter from Hannah to Shireen.
Dear Shireen,
Nice to hear from you after such a long time . How are you and your family? We’re doing fine
here in our new house. I hope you can visit soon.
In your letter, you mentioned that you’ll be attending and eight-day camping trip. I know you
are excited yet a bit nervous because you are reserved and not sure how to get along with the
others or make friends with them.
Let me tell what I have read about making friends. Making friends can be difficult especially
with so much peer pressure. You are the odd one out if you do not belong to a group that sports a
certain hairstyle or wears clothes that are in fashion. But, this does not mean that you should
follow the crowd blindly.
In order to make friends, first of all show your pleasant personality. You need to become
genuinely interested in other people and show kindness to others. If you want people to like you,
make them feel important. Smile always. It costs nothing but it enriches those who receive it. A
smile cannot be bought or borrowed, it comes from the heart.
As we all come from different backgrounds, we do get into arguments over differences of
opinions. The only way to get out of an argument is to avoid it. If you are wrong, admit it quickly
and apologize to your friend. If the other party continues arguing, excuse yourself and walk away.
An important thing to remember is choose your friends carefully. If someone tries to persuade
you to play truant or miss any activity, say ’no’. when you do something against the regulations,
you will lost honest, good and upright friends in no time. Stay away from those who try to
influence you to do wrong things.
Stay strong mentally and you will not be swayed by bad influences. Don’t follow a crowd just to
be accepted. Stay true to yourself. You will be happy and have good experiences in your life.
Remember it is better to have one good friends than ten dishonest friends who will stab you in the
back when opportunity arises.
I hope you will make some good friends at the camp. Enjoy yourself at the camp and write to
me about it when you get back.
Your friend,
Hannah

And the history of the fight for independence Be brave
Have forced sacrifices And erect a wall of people
That know no name Stand up heirs of our freedom
Or life

From the wheelchair of the rest of my days I have no more voice

See and cannot do much
These times are too big a challenge
For the remnants of my crippled years
The net of deceit spread everywhere
disturbs me
