∆ϕ = Phase shift y = Amplitude

Fc = Coriolis force t = Time

Coriolis Density Measurement
• Resonant frequency lowers with increasing
density and rises if the density decreases
• The density measurement is independent of
the mass flow measurement and velocity.
– Vibrating tube density performance is of minimal
value for gas applications

Coriolis Calibration:
– Gravimetric calibration rig with 0.015% uncertainty
• Gravimetric rig traceable to the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST)
• Laboratory and equipment meets ISO 17025 standard
• Laboratory and process is evaluated by the American
Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA)
– The calibration factor is determined and programmed into the
flow transmitter
– The uncertainty is verified at repeated points

Conclusion
• Coriolis mass flow technology affords users significant
advantages in metering service of gaseous
hydrocarbons. Coriolis meters offer valued
improvement over mechanical flowmeters.
– higher accuracy,
– lower uncertainty,
– long term stability and extended life in service.
• Broad based acceptance of Coriolis meters exists
today as seen with recognition from national and
international standards organizations.
• Coriolis mass flowmeters that are gravimetrically
calibrated on water have been proven to be capable to
satisfy the specifications and requirements of national
and international standards for the measurement of
natural gas in custody transfer applications.
