My family was away attending
Dear Joshua, a relative’s wedding in Johor. I
didn’t want to go because of
my PMR exam. So, I stayed at
home to revise.
Your friend,
How are you doing? I hope that you are in the pink of health. As for me,
I’m doing fine here. The reason I’m writing to you is, to tell you about a
frightening experience I went through a week ago. Two guys tried to rob
my house!
I did as told by the police. I prayed hard that the police would
be there soon. A while later, I heard my room door being
opened slowly. I started trembling with fear and closed my
eyes tightly. I was so scared that the robbers would find me in
the cupboard.
I was glad that the whole thing was over. That night I slept in
Mr.Selva’s house. When my parents returned home the next
day, I told them what had happened. That was the most
terrifying experience I ever had.

Theme is the central or main ideas of a piece of writing while moral values are lessons
or messages the author wants to deliver to the audience. More often than not, themes
and moral values are treated as two different things. In reality, they are actually two
different sides of the same coin.
Themes can be identified by a word or phrases summarising the story. Moral values are
usually written in imperative tone, often begin with phrases like, “We should...” or “We
must...”

Unlike essay questions, novel question does not focus on how many evidences you can
list down. When answering any novel question, you need to consider these:
Are you answering the question?
Can you relate the question with suitable evidence(s)?
Are your evidences detailed?
Is your answer organised and well-structured, or is it all over the place?
Can you respond to the question by relating it to yourself?
These are among the things you need to consider in order to get good marks for novel
