Stress-Plane Stress Versus Plane Strain (X-Direction)

a) Stress-Plane Stress (X-Direction)

Discussion:
The maximum value of Stress-Plane Stress in X-direction for Triangular element is 136.84x106
(node 248), while the maximum value for Rectangular element is 153.46 x106 (node 242). The
maximum value for both element shows that the critical part of the plate located at the circular
hole region. The contour of the both element show a similar pattern for X-direction in Figure .
From the contour the area for minimum stress of Rectangular element is more than Triangular
element.
b) Stress-Plane Strain (X-Direction)

Discussion:
The maximum value of Stress-Plane Strain in X-direction for Triangular element is 1.36x106
(node 246), while the maximum value for Rectangular element is 1.52 x106 (node 241). The
maximum value for both element shows that the critical part of the plate located at the circular
hole region. The contour of the both element show a similar pattern for X-direction in Figure
Stress-Plane Stress Versus Plane Strain (Y-Direction)

a) Stress-Plane Stress (Y-Direction)

Discussion:
The maximum value of Stress-Plane Stress in X-direction for Triangular element is 30.58x106
(node 557), while the maximum value for Rectangular element is 35.51 x106 (node 529). The
maximum value for both element shows that the critical part of the plate located at the circular
hole region. The contour of the both element show a similar pattern for X-direction in Figure .
From the contour the area for minimum stress of Triangular element is more than Rectangular
element.
b) Stress-Plane Strain (Y-Direction)

The maximum value of Stress-Plane Strain in Y-direction for Triangular element is 354.56x103
(node 552), while the maximum value for Rectangular element is 395.74 x103(node 531). The
maximum value for both element shows that the critical part of the plate located at the circular
hole region. The contour of the both element show a similar pattern for Y-direction in Figure .
But area of maximum stress for Triangular element is more than rectangular element.
Strain-Plane Stress Versus Plane Strain (X-Direction)

a) Strain-Plane Stress (X-Direction)

Discussion:

The maximum value of Strain-Plane Stress in X-direction for Triangular element is 0.66x10-3
(node 248), while the maximum value for Rectangular element is 0.75 x106 (node 242). The
maximum value for both element shows that the critical part of the plate located at the circular
hole region. The contour of the both element show a similar pattern for X-direction in Figure
But area of maximum stress for Triangular element is more than Rectangular element. While
area for minimum stress area of Rectangular element is more than Triangular element.
b) Strain-Plane Strain (X-Direction)

The maximum value of Strain-Plane Strain in X-direction for Triangular element is 5.89x10-6
(node 248), while the maximum value for Rectangular element is 6.67 x10-6(node 241). The
maximum value for both element shows that the critical part of the plate located at the circular
hole region. The contour of the both element show a similar pattern for X-direction in Figure
Strain-Plane Stress Versus Plane Strain (Y-Direction)

a) Strain-Plane Stress (Y-Direction)

Discussion:
The maximum value of Strain-Plane Stress in Y-direction for Triangular element is 91.32x10-6
(node 436), while the maximum value for Rectangular element is 0.11 x10-3(node 499). The
maximum value for both element shows that the critical part of the plate located at the circular
hole region. The contour of the both element show a similar pattern for Y-direction in Figure But
area of maximum stress for Triangular element is more than Rectangular element.
b) Strain-Plane Strain (Y-Direction)

The maximum value of Stress-Plane Strain in Y-direction for Triangular element is 1.12x10-6
(node 432), while the maximum value for Rectangular element is 1.17 x10-6(node 410). The
maximum value for both element shows that the critical part of the plate located at the circular
hole region. The contour of the both element show a similar pattern for Y-direction in Figure .
But area of maximum strain for Rectangular is larger than triangular
