II Academic Promotion:
- B.A. in Classics (Greco-Roman Studies) from the Department of Greco-Roman
Civilization, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, May 1977, Excellent
Honours.
- Ph.D. in Greco-Roman History and Civilization in January 1985 from the same
Department in Alexandria University (with the collaboration and joint
supervision of Oxford University) for a dissertation entitled:
“Public and Crown Land in the Fayyūm in Roman Egypt to the End of the
Second Century A.D.” (in Arabic). Obtained Ph.D. degree with First Rate
Honours (Summa Cum Lauda) and promoted to the post of lecturer in the same
Department in Alexandria University.
- Promoted to the Degree and Post of Associate Professor in October 1990 in the
same Department.
- Promoted to the Degree and Post of Professor in the same Department since
March 1996 till now.
- Member of the General Academic Committee for the Promotions of the
Academic Staff of the Egyptian Universities (The History Committee) to the
degrees of “Associate Professor” and “Professor” since 2008 till now.

- Member of the Academic Council of the Alexandria Centre for Hellenistic
Studies (in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina) since 2010 till now.

- Held the post of Head of the Department of Archaeology and Greco-Roman

Studies (formerly called Department of Greco-Roman Civilization) twice: from
2002 to 2005, then from 2007 to 2010.

- One of the Board of Directors of the Archeological Society of Alexandria since

2005 till now.
- Member of the Committee of Archaeology in the Supreme Council of Culture in
Egypt between 2007 and 2011, and member of the committee of History in the
same Council from 2016 - 2018.

- Examined and evaluated more than 35 cases of promotions to the ranks of
Professorship and Associate Professorship in the field of “Greco-Roman History”
since 2001 till now.
- Evaluated more the 70 articles in the field for the validity of publication in
various national and regional periodicals.

V Foreign Languages:
- Having an excellent command of the English language as well as a
moderate knowledge and practice of French and German.
- Teaching Ancient Greek and Latin in undergraduate and postgraduate
courses in the department of Greek and Roman Archeology and Classical
Studies.
