about the candidates and their

this guide is provid-
ed by the candi-
dates. It gives them
an opportunity to
talk directly to you
about what they
think is important
after providing us with some basic
information we think is important.
The organization of the guide is
simple with countywide elections
in the front and town and districts
in the back.
Below is a list of candidates and
their information.
We haven’t included those offices
in which there is no opponent. Nor
are any of the Lake Tahoe improve-
ment districts included. We also
didn’t tackle any state races above
Assembly District 39. We felt it was
more important to do a good job
with our local races.
We’ve not included information
on the ballot questions. Those have
been printed in their entirety on
Sept. 29, Oct. 6 and Oct. 13.

Nevada has been going through some
tough times. We need wise leadership to
take us in the right direction. We need effi-
cient budget planning and adequate service
that will keep taxes low. We need the securi-
ty of good jobs; excellence in education;
clean water and air; and affordable health
care. We want to preserve our Nevada way
of life with a mix of successful local busi-
nesses, agriculture, tourism, and to become
the leader in Renewable Energy.
In 2011 the Nevada Assembly must bal-
ance the budget by carefully monitoring
spending. We must prioritize the cuts we
may have to make to the budget. No new
spending should be allowed until absolutely
all waste is eliminated. There is a critical
need to develop the right kinds of
public/private partnerships that could
address a myriad of needs that present
challenges to the state budget.
I strongly oppose any new taxes. I
strongly support bringing a better balance
to our tax structure. We need to encourage
growth in small business, make sure our tax
system is fair and equitable, give relief to
property owners, and fairly tax rentals and
second homes. No retiree should be forced
from their home by overly burdensome
property taxes or inadequate senior servic-
es.

implement touch screen voting in Douglas
County. Additionally, I worked closely with
Barbara Griffin in the development of audit

licenses, FFNs, dog licenses, been

Treasurer’s Office back to the Old Historic
Courthouse with the hope of both offices
assisting one another in their duties in the
future. We were also able to close the
Election Center out at the Airport and
bring it to the Old Historic Courthouse.

Commissioner (District 4) because Douglas
County is facing unprecedented challenges
and I have the knowledge, skills, and passion
to move Douglas County in a positive direction.
My top three priorities when elected to the
Douglas County Commission will be:
1. Preparation. The State of Nevada is facing
an unprecedented budget shortfall. If Douglas
County is not united (Lake and Valley), and if
the Commissioners are not cohesive, our com-
munity will be worse off in four years.
2. County Budget. I will bring prudent business
practices and a collaborative leadership style
to the County that will prepare us for both
planned and unplanned issues. Douglas also
needs complete transparency, open communi-
cation, collaboration, fairness, and follow
through in all aspects of local government.
3. Use of County Resources (water, land,
mountains, open space, Lake Tahoe). I will
bring a balanced and collaborative approach
to protecting and planning the use of our
County Resources.
As the County’s representative on the Tahoe
Regional Planning Agency Governing Board, I
will bring strong local representation. It is
imperative that TRPA have a strong connection
with the community and focus on the mission
of the agency while balancing the current
needs of the community.
As County Commissioner, I will bring a collabo-
rative, action - oriented leadership style. I will
build consensus and not “take sides” on
issues facing our community.

Commissioner? My years on the Planning
Commission and County Commission are a testimony
to my willingness to serve. I love Douglas County.
I am passionate about our lakes, our mountains,
and our valley. Our environment is the best! I want
to preserve our quality of life.
As your County Commissioner, it was important to
balance the budget using cost reductions, energy
conservation, and employee attrition. I am proud of
the projects I worked on: the Minden-East Valley
pipeline; funding for economic enhancement for
Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa; the Growth
Management ordinance; to name a few. Despite the
economic downturn, our staff has endeavored to
meet the public’s needs and expectations — doing
more with less.
What is needed now is development that fits our
character and natural environment, using the
Economic Vitality Plan and the Lake Tahoe
Prosperity Plan as our blueprint. These plans with
the Community Assessment helped us take a “rifle”
approach to attracting new businesses. We must be
realistic in our expectations for economic develop-
ment and expansion of our existing businesses.
What is vital to the success of the community’s eco-
nomic prosperity is to implement, implement, imple-
ment…we have done the research; we have the
map. It is time to aggressively take action to
streamline county government processes by utilizing
innovative methods and technologies.

with the vision that we have had through the eyes and ears of the
community and what was needed.
The light poles were an eyesore and now we have what I feel other
communities want and I feel others are watching to see what is next
for the Town.
We need to watch now more than ever before where our money
goes as we live in unsettled times.
I would like to see us continue with the Main Street program and
build upon that foundation that has been a result of a lot of hard
work and dedication.
But there again, we have to be careful and not overburden the
taxpayers. We need to continue working with the two towns and
Douglas County and FEMA on a workable and doable flood plan, as
we have taken the lead on this issue.
We need to hold Walmart accountable as they go forth from here,
and work with the businesses downtown who are the heart and soul
of our community.
We need to continue with the Martin Slough, as we took this on
many years ago and need to see it through to completion with the
Town of Minden. I love this area and the residents in and around
this great valley and that is why I am here and wanting to make a
difference.

Town and Country store in old town Minden, which
moved over to 1600 Esmeralda Avenue in 1972. The
Town and Country then became Tumblewind a short
time later. I purchased the business from Tom and
Norma Andrews in 1987. The business changed from
clothing to antiques and collectibles 15 years ago.

islators as they had to approve the request for city-

The IHGID would have to provide for and fund its
own police force, fire and emergency departments. A
city would also need its own judge, mayor and city
council. The request for cityhood was denied.
As a trustee I see my role as a guardian of the dis-
trict, I feel it is my responsibility to assure the residents
of Indian Hills that the district stays within its yearly
budget. The budget monies are used to maintain the
everyday services, continue to make improvements to
our neighborhoods, and pay off bonds that have been
used to finance major projects.
My present position on the board is that of
Secretary-Treasurer. I have enjoyed working with Jim
Taylor, the district manager and his dedicated staff, as
well as the other board trustees.
I encourage the residents of Indian Hills to attend
the public meetings held the third Wednesday of each
month at 6 p.m. If you request an agenda it will be

gifts and food for low income families who did
not have the money to provide a Christmas and
a Christmas dinner for their family. I have been

Platform: First and foremost I am here to lis-
ten and serve my community. My biggest con-
cern for our community is a future, ongoing
water supply. We currently have eight water
wells and two booster stations in service at this
time.
Our largest well produces over 1,800 gallons
per minute. This is a wonderful supply of water

Ranchos. I would like to see the district incorpo-
rate a few community events as well like an

future fishing pond, and or maybe a movie or
concert in the park idea like in Minden and
Gardnerville. We need to make the Ranchos a
place where we just not call home but a place we
the community comes together.

Presently, GRGID undertakes a significant
portion of construction and maintenance using
in-house resources, saving the district and the
taxpayer’s money.

tinue, and will explore new ways to stretch the
taxpayer's dollar in order to preserve our way

moving to this beautiful area and raise their
families. I love this community and I am com-

nity for the future of all homeowners.

this qualifies you for the position:
I was born and raised in a small rural Idaho community where I
was taught the values and ethics expected of me to serve you, the
citizens of Lyon County, as your elected sheriff. Prior to starting my
law enforcement career, I served my country in the U.S. Marine Corps
which gave me the basic understanding of leadership principles and
abilities which continue to guide me almost daily. During my 30-year law
enforcement career, I was employed with the Oneida County Sheriff’s
Department, City of Monticello Police Department, and ultimately with
the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for 18 years. I have served in many
roles within each agency, have attended countless training courses
and seminars, and have been the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades. I have learned the dynamics of law enforcement, community-
oriented policing, and understand how services are to be provided. I
have lived in Lyon County for 20 years and I have an understanding of
the dynamics, complexities and needs of this county. Because of my
background, I can locate the talent and abilities of key individuals within
the agency and within our county, to surround myself with competent
and qualified people to operate the Sheriff’s Office.
What are the important issues that you would
address if elected?
Illegal drug use is rampant within Lyon County. Ask any of our school age
children and they will tell you the truth. Methamphetamine, marijuana
and other illegal drugs can be purchased in our high schools, middle
schools, and currently, we are starting to see it in our elementary
schools. This must stop. I am an advocate of a comprehensive narcotic
task force, which will include the addition of narcotic interdiction dogs.
No modern law enforcement agency can combat narcotic trafficking
without the aid of such a valuable asset.
Next is fiscal responsibility. The new jail and Sheriff’s Office complex
debacle is evidence of that reckless spending and costing the taxpayers
between $22 million and $35 million — no one knows the exact dollar
amount until the project is completed. Government spending is out
of control, which includes the Sheriff’s Office. There are ways that
spending can be controlled by decreasing bureaucracy and streamlining
operations to improve efficiency in the delivery of services.
Finally, improve the trust and confidence of the Sheriff’s Office with
the citizens of the county and with the deputies who serve within the
agency. When the community believes in its law enforcement, they
begin to trust them and begin to work together in combating narcotic
trafficking, gang related crimes, and other property type crimes.
Why should voters choose you over the other
candidate?
The overwhelming majority of the deputies are dissatisfied with the
current direction of the Sheriff’s Office and that is why they voted to
endorse me as their choice for the next elected sheriff of Lyon County.
These are the same deputies, many of whom I trained and served with,
side by side on the “streets” of Lyon County. They have the trust and
confidence in my leadership abilities to lead our Sheriff’s Office during
the next four years.
Unlike my opponent, who sat the majority of his law enforcement
career in an office tabulating data and numbers, I have learned how
to treat people with compassion and respect. I know how to listen to
their concerns and formulate a plan of action to meet the needs of the
community.
I can lead the Sheriff’s Office to improve the effectiveness and efficiency
in the delivery of services. More than 70 percent of the deputies believe

I have 28 years of law enforcement experience in Lyon County and
have worked my way through the ranks, progressing from sergeant,

experience in all aspects of law enforcement, constitutional law, case
law, personnel administration, leadership, supervision, Nevada statutes,

and many others too numerous to list. I train our personnel in ethics,
constitutional law and leadership.
I am a graduate of the 214th session of the FBI National Academy, and

address if elected?
I would continue with the programs that I implemented during my first
years as sheriff. I will continue to make myself, my supervisors and my
deputies accountable and visible to the citizens and continue to be an
interactive part of the community.
We will continue to apply for grants to augment our budget. I will
continue to upgrade our technology and efficiency. I will continue
to work on safety programs with our children. The presence of our
deputies in our schools will continue in a mentoring role, not simply an
enforcement role.
We will continue with our Street Enforcement Team, our Sex Offender
Registration Task Force, our participation in the Tri-Net Narcotics
Task Force, our participation in the Regional Gang Unit, and with our
Narcotics Unit in the county. We will continue to be proactive in crime
prevention and enforcement. We will continue to reduce Lyon County’s
crime rate and to increase our crimes solved rate as we have done over
the past couple of years.
I will continue to keep the citizens and deputies safe and will always
work to eliminate liability to the county by making well-informed
decisions and by holding our employees accountable to the citizens.

I am passionate about my position and the agency and have proven
that over the past 28 years. My record speaks for itself. I prepared for
this position throughout my career and have developed the expertise in
leadership, ethics, budgeting grant writing and personnel administration
desperately needed of the sheriff.
I am knowledgeable about the county and the citizens who live here.
I am involved in all aspects of the community and am a member of
the School District’s Attendance Advisory Board, the vice president of
the Healthy Communities Coalition Board of Directors, The Chairman

Balancing the budget will obviously be our first concern. Until we get
final numbers and see the budget the new governor proposes, everything
else is conjecture. Along with the budget, I would focus on getting our
economy moving again. By creating a business-friendly environment, we
can grow the tax base necessary to bring economic stability. We’re in
the midst of the worst economic downturn in multiple generations, and
we in office need to focus on putting people back to work.
We need to give our young people a quality education. If we fail to give
our state’s future generations a solid and firm foundation in life via a
top-notch education, then we have not done our jobs as responsible
citizens. I will also continue to address environmental concerns with
water quality.
Why should voters choose you over the other
candidate?
I have proven, real-world experience creating jobs. Having started
my own successful businesses years ago, I have the knowledge and
expertise to help get Nevada’s economy back on track. My private sector
leadership to the Assembly will be a strong voice for small businesses
and job creation. After 35 years as a small business owner, and 12 years
on the Carson City Board of Supervisors, I know I have the expertise to
see Nevada through the current economic crisis. To be successful, the
next Nevada Legislature needs leaders who have proven themselves
worthy of the public’s trust.
I am able to combine knowledge with wisdom and to move forward in
a way that will prevent hurting one segment of the community while

The state needs to evaluate all of its programs and establish if they

not. The government waste that exists cannot be tolerated and must
be discussed whether it is benefiting corporations, unions, or the
bureaucracy itself. I and my colleagues already have bills that seek to

The best government is like a good insurance policy. It costs you money
from time to time. It’s there for you in bad times and in the good times

As a former journalist covering government and politics, my professional
integrity relied on thinking critically about complicated issues and
ensuring all ideas were presented before making decisions. I believe
that’s something we need more of in the Nevada Legislature. Following
my journalism career I worked in public affairs and advertising in Reno
before going to work for the governor, where I served as a member of
his senior staff. This inside view of state policy from the highest level
of government gives me a broad base of knowledge that will serve me

following my election to maintain the Constitutional tenet of separation

First off, we must focus on passing a balanced budget that protects the
businesses that will hire people out of the current recession. This should
be done by prioritizing government services, eliminating those that
are no longer necessary or affordable and streamlining those that can
achieve greater efficiency. As a father of two sets of young twins, the
quality of education is incredibly important to me and my wife. I believe
in the empowerment model of education, giving greater authority to
individual schools and teachers to decide how best to educate rather
than relying on administrators far removed from the classroom. I am also
a strong advocate of empowering parents to make more choices about
their children’s education. Easing the creation of charter schools is an
important way to do this. Additionally, we must ensure we evaluate the
success of schools and teachers by the success of our children.

In the end, I believe this election comes down leadership and the quality
of the person the voters want representing them in the Legislature. I
offer the voters of Washoe District 4 a strong, conservative voice that

Rob Lauer was born April 6, 1970 and adopted at birth. Raised by a
family that stressed service as honorable and dutiful, Rob has lived his
life committed to volunteerism. Rob served on the student senate while

in the Army Reserves until federal budget cuts forced an end to his
military service in 1993.
While at USC, Rob began his civilian career in real estate with the
founding of Lauer Properties. Rob worked in commercial and residential
redevelopment, winning him acclaim from local government as a
community leader. He cleaned up neighborhoods full of drugs and gangs.
Also during college, Rob interned on Capitol Hill for Congressman
Duncan Hunter, House Armed Services Committee Chairman, and served
as a member of President George H.W. Bush’s advance team in the 1992

In 2005, Rob enlisted in the Army. Rob graduated from Basic Training in
August 2005 and joined the 314th MP Company. Shortly thereafter, Rob
graduated from the US Army’s Military Police school and became an MP.
In January 2008, Rob volunteered to serve in Iraq, but was unable to
complete his duty due to an injury. He was flown to USC Spine Center
where he underwent back surgery. Three months later, Rob applied
to return to his unit in Iraq but the Army denied his request due to his

almost three months until the election. In 2009, Rob decided to run for

What are the important issues that you would
address if elected?
I wish to make it easier to run for office. I would lobby to increase the
amount from $100 to $1,000 to list the donor’s name on the campaign
reporting form. Some people do not wish their name on the campaign
reports because of fear that they may be a target of retaliation. The only
people who really care about candidates’ donors are the opponents.
No candidate that I know of can be bought for $1,000. Last legislative
session it was proposed that every $100 be reported nightly. A candidate
is not always able to report nightly as travel conditions vary. A candidate
would need an accountant and lawyer just to comply with such a law.
The Constitution of the United States gives the people the right to
petition the government. Laws imposed by the Legislature now make
petition drives extremely hard. Rules imposed on the people are not the
same as the Legislatures rules. As a result, we now have no initiatives
the ballot. I wish to change the laws making it easier to petition in the
State of Nevada.
Why should voters choose you over the other
candidate?
I am the only candidate for secretary of state that is not going run for
a higher office in two or four years. I will work to bring businesses to
Nevada. I will not raise fees for business licenses except to cover costs.

you for the position:
I have served as Nevada’s state treasurer for the past four years,
and under my leadership, the assets of Nevada taxpayers have been
protected, more unclaimed property has been returned to rightful
owners and more families are saving for college. I have saved Nevada
taxpayers millions in reduced fees, have cut expenses in my office
returning more than 16 percent of my budget to the General Fund,
and the budget I’ve submitted for the next biennium cuts another 15
percent. Since taking office, Nevada’s investment portfolios have earned
more than $305 million in interest, about $85 million more than the
predicted benchmarks for good performance. Even in bad years, our
investments have been safe, and in 2009, our portfolio outperformed
Warren Buffett’s. My background analyzing markets and prosecuting
white-collar criminals for the Department of Justice under Presidents
Bush and Clinton and as the Senior Deputy Attorney General in Nevada
heading up the antitrust division gives me a unique understanding of the
treasurer’s office. I will continue to be a steady hand and strong leader in
efforts to turn the economy around and get more Nevadans working and
prosperous again.

I have proposed a new way to restructure Nevada’s unemployment
millions of dollars and reduce the rate of repayment in the next few
years, providing Nevada businesses much needed relief. This effort has
received support from chambers of commerce, trade associations and
businesses leaders from across the state. I have a bill draft to allow
for easier access to loans for small businesses without any additional
risk to the state. My bill would establish a loan program for Nevada
entrepreneurs in partnership with Nevada’s banks for those small
businesses working to diversify the state economy. Another priority is to
work with the Legislature to find a lasting solution to funding the Gov.
Guinn Millennium Scholarship Program. My efforts and advice have led
to the continuation of the popular program despite several decisions
to take scholarship funds to support the General Fund. Because of my
leadership, 25,000 students are using the Millennium Scholarship for the
current school year and it is critical we find a permanent funding solution
to this important program.
When first elected, I called for an audit of the Treasurer’s Office that
contracts under my predecessor, practices that I immediately put a stop
to. I have brought a new level of transparency to the Treasurer’s Office
to give Nevadans confidence that the state’s investments are both
secure and profitable. During my tenure, our state’s investments have
outperformed several major money managers and at a time when states
around us have been issuing IOUs, Nevada’s investment portfolio has
beaten the benchmarks and seen positive returns year after year. I have
saved taxpayers millions in reduced expenses and fees and continue
to improve efficiencies and offer innovative solutions to improve the

reductions for thousands of Nevadans participating in the state’s College
Savings Programs. Our College Savings Programs rank in the top 10
nationally and I have helped more than 100,000 families start to save

The short answer is that I am a CPA and the incumbent is a lawyer.
That is why three former governors and four former state treasurers
support my candidacy. However, there is much more to that question.
As a Certified Public Accountant with 30 years of experience I regularly
evaluate business performance, and what is required to improve that
performance. As a Certified Valuation Analyst, I understand the issues
key to making sound investment decisions. The current treasurer lost
$50 million in investments, and there are many issues involving the
disclosure of how and what happened, and some of the long-term
effects.
In 2006, as state controller, I was responsible for the annual state
financial report. I also coordinated the redesign of the computer
back-up system for the state’s accounting system. The office manages
the College Savings Plan, the Millennium Scholarship, and the Prepaid
Tuition Plan. The office needs a professional that understands education.
I have a master’s degree in accounting and was an adjunct professor of
accounting.
In 2009, Governor Gibbons appointed me to the State Board of Finance.
The office deserves someone that can step in and make an immediate
impact on the office operations.
I have been married to Gail for 38 years. As Marine for 12 years, I
advanced quickly from enlisted man and officer, attaining the rank of
major. And received a top secret clearance.
What are the important issues that you would
address if elected?
One of the missions of the treasurer’s office is to provide prudent and
professional financial and fiscal leadership to the state. No one else
has that experience. You can hire all of the experts you want to provide
advice, but if you do not have the essential training and experience, you
do not have a clue whether the advice being provided is good or bad.
There is a need to put transparency and financial accountability into
the state, as well as the Treasurer’s Office. We need to put the state’s
checkbook online for all to see.
As a CPA with 30 plus years of business, accounting and management
experience, I understand accounts receivables, accounts payables,
payroll, financial statements, cash flow analysis and projections. We
need someone with audit experience, who can identify problems in the
unclaimed property.
A true accounting of the Millennium Scholarship and the Prepaid Tuition
Plan is needed. Formerly an adjunct professor, I understand these issues.
As a fraud investigator, we need to examine the states accounting
record, since little fraud has been detected, ever though billions of
dollars pass through the state treasurer’s office.
Why should voters choose you over the other
candidate?
My opponent is a lawyer with no accounting training or experience.
I am the only candidate with financial qualifications. My experiences
also provide a broad base from which to draw. If I were running for the
position of Nevada’s attorney general, everyone would point to my lack
of training and experience in law, as a disqualification for that office.
The same principle applies to the treasurer. Nevada needs someone
with a financial background in the office. We need to be proactive in the
pursuit of fraud, waste and abuse in government. We need to design
investigative programs to achieve this goal. I have that experience.
We need to revamp the Unclaimed Property Program by putting in state-
of-the-art auditing programs to generate more money for the general
fund. I have audit experience. We need to look at the possibility of sales
and leaseback of government assets. We need to encourage businesses
to come to Nevada; this is the only way to truly create a recovery for
Nevada. We need to be creative on the education front, by providing
more money directly to the classroom, with less overhead.

clients prosper and succeed and I would continue to use my professional

We need to continue to improve the state’s debt collection efforts. My

can make cuts and re-deploy our precious resources.

At this point in time, illegal immigration presents a most interesting and
pivotal legal issue. Nevada’s historic growth market is predicated upon
population growth and development. Thus, Nevada should continue
to encourage legal immigration; however, the lack of comprehensive
national immigration reform has put the states, particularly those in
the Southwest, in the unenviable position of needing to address and
expedite solutions for local concerns as the federal government works
to resolve the issue nationally. Other pressing legal issues include water
use and resources, health care, and the nuclear waste depository.

Catherine Cortez Masto is a native Nevadan and attended the University
of Nevada, Reno, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in
1986 with a major in finance. She graduated cum laude from Gonzaga
University School of Law, in Spokane, Washington in 1990. Cortez Masto
was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 1990, the U.S. District Court,
District of Nevada in 1991 and the U.S. Court of Appeals, for the Ninth
Circuit in 1994. Between June 1990 and August 1991, she served as a
law clerk for Judge Michael J. Wendell in the Eighth Judicial District
Court. In November of 1991 she became an associate attorney in the Las

address if elected?
As Nevada’s attorney general, I have worked hard over the past several
years to represent the people of this great state. I have done this by

listening to their concerns, protecting their rights, advocating for their

continue advocating for Nevadans for the next four years by running for
a second term. I will continue to fight against methamphetamine use and
other drugs of abuse, the exploitation of seniors and children, and scam
artists who prey on our citizens. I will continue to actively prosecute

As our attorney general I have aggressively prosecuted scam artists
who are preying on our citizens who are at risk of losing their homes to
foreclosure. In addition, as part of the foreclosure task force, my office
has worked with both banks and homeowners to help create programs

I was born and raised in Sparks, and I have been a successful practicing
attorney in Las Vegas ever since receiving my law degree in 1978,
having graduated with honors, so I am very familiar with both ends of
the state. I have successfully litigated numerous jury trials and appeared
many times before the Nevada Supreme Court, often representing citizen
tax limiting and similar petitions. I have extensive civil and criminal law
experience. I was named a member of the Bar Register of Pre-eminent
Attorneys in America in 2000. With 32 years of lawyering under my belt,
I have more legal experience than both of my opponents combined. And I
have long administrative experience, running my own law practices, with
private charitable organizations, and with the Boy Scouts of America.
And I have actually litigated many cases with the Attorney General’s
office, so I am familiar with what the AG’s office does.
I have made a life-long study of the U.S. Constitution and of the
philosophy of the founding fathers of our nation. What we need to solve
our current economic and political problems is to understand and live by
those principles. I can and will do that.
What are the important issues that you would
address if elected?
The incumbent refused to sue to stop Obamacare, and so violated her
constitutional duties. By contrast, I filed a class action lawsuit against
Obamacare, representing private citizens of Nevada. Obamacare
violates 60 percent of our Bill of Rights and our right to privacy. As AG,
I’ll continue the fight against Obamacare. We need an Arizona style
immigration law in Nevada. I’ll promote it and defend it vigorously, and
I’ll file a claim against Washington for all of the money Nevada has
expended giving free medical care and education to illegals.
Ohio’s attorney general sued AIG for securities fraud and recovered $1
billion for Ohio investors. Meanwhile the incumbent was using her time
pursuing trumped up criminal charges against State Treasurer Brian
Kroliki, which were dismissed as groundless. Banks have been caught
using false documents to foreclose on people’s homes. I’ll hold Wall
Street and the banks accountable instead of abusing my powers as AG.
I’ll defend Nevadan’s right to keep and bear arms. I’ll go after local laws
which violate this right, like Clark County’s handgun registration law. I’ll
vigorously prosecute child and senior abusers. I’ll seek to recover for the
state control over our public lands.
Why should voters choose you over the other
candidate?
Ms. Masto has defied the governor over the Obamacare issue. Nevada
law says she must file suit when directed to do so by the governor.
It also says it is a misdemeanor not to fulfill her legal duties. Her
persecution and prosecution of Brian Kroliki (a political enemy of Harry
Reid) was a blatant abuse of the powers of her office, and in so doing,
she was too incompetent to properly allege the elements of any crime.
Her handling of the Bob Loux affair where he gave himself and his
cronies an unauthorized raise, yet she recommended that the state fund
$20,000 in legal fees for him, shows her blatant political bias. I will
not abuse the powers of my office like this. And my record proves my
competence as an attorney. Mr. Barrick has only five years experience as
an attorney. Thus he lacks the qualifications to be the attorney general.
One of my colleagues called me the toughest attorney he’d ever faced.
Voters know that the attorney general needs to be an experienced,
tough, and successful attorney and administrator. My record shows that I
am eminently qualified to be AG.

Currently, I sit on the House Ways and Means Committee which
oversees our nation’s tax and trade policies. The policies that come from
this committee directly affect the economic health of our country, and
Nevada’s middle class families. Moreover, fiscal responsibility needs
to be a top priority for Congress. This assignment allows me to be a
more effective advocate for the wise stewardship of taxpayers’ dollars.
It is also an exclusive committee that has jurisdiction over all taxation,
tariffs and other revenue-raising measures, as well as Social Security,
unemployment benefits, and Medicare.
As a former member of the House Natural Resources Committee and
current Policy Chair of the Western Caucus, I continue to advocate for
issues such as private property rights, mining, public lands access and
wildfire prevention all of which directly impact the state of Nevada.
What are the important issues that you would
address if elected?
My No. 1 priority in Congress is to turn our nation’s economy around and
get Nevadans back to work. Despite claims that unemployment would
not rise above 8 percent if the stimulus bill passed, millions of jobs have
been lost and thousands of Nevadans are out of work since its passage.
Raising taxes and growing government is not the answer to fixing our
economy. Congress should adopt pro-growth policies that expand tax
relief across the board and allow Americans to keep more of what they
earn. Many of the government policies today are standing in the way of
innovation, growth and economic recovery. Capitalism is the foundation
of America’s prosperity and Congress should remember the principles
that made our nation great.
Growing government, increasing taxes, and discouraging investment
impedes economic recovery. Curbing out of control spending and
balancing the budget should be a top priority for Congress. While
Congress and administration has continued to waste taxpayer funds
on bailouts, stimulus bill, and programs such as Cash for Clunkers,
Nevadans have struggled to keep their businesses open and their
homes out of foreclosure. It is time that more than lip service is paid to
controlling government spending.
Why should voters choose you over the other
candidate?
Providing constituents with the best possible services has been a priority
for me since coming to Congress. Whether my office is assisting seniors
with their Social Security checks, veterans with their VA benefits, or
helping individuals with foreclosure problems, providing these services
is one of the most important things my office does. Traveling Nevada
while I am in state and calling Nevadans for tele-town hall meetings
from my office in Washington, D.C., also allows me the opportunity to
listen to what is important to my constituents so I can better represent
them.
In Congress, I have fought against massive tax increases, reckless
spending, and the expansion of government. I describe myself as a low
tax, small government, reasonable regulation, free market capitalist.
There is no question that spending is out of control in Washington, D.C.
Between all the bailouts and the stimulus spending, our nation is now
facing record deficits and debt. Big government programs and spending
are not a substitute for private-sector growth and job creation. Smaller
government and low tax rates are the solution to help Nevadans and all
Americans to keep more of what they earn and boost job creation in this
country.

I retired after 24 years as chief master sergeant from the Reno Air
National Guard. I wrote curriculum on leadership for the Air Force which
is still used today.
I attended 11 sessions at the Nevada State Legislature assisting my
husband, former Assemblyman Bob Price. I proposed and lobbied for
legislation. One example is publishing of proposed legislation which is
now available online .
What are the important issues that you would
address if elected?
To address the deficit, tax loopholes must be addressed. I’m referring
to Warren Buffet’s statement that he pays a lesser percentage than his
secretary. Exxon pays virtually nothing. The fraud perpetrated on the
world must be brought to justice and the money seized to pay victims.
The Glass-Steagall Act should be put back into law so we can trust the
banks again.
Join me in a movement to return our Constitution to its original intent
that “We the people” means natural persons not corporations. This
would change our government in the direction I believe both Republicans
and Democrats want to see with regards to corporate contributions.
We must bring our troops home and look at the redundancy in the
military budget.

We must invest in businesses that create jobs and independence from
foreign oil. This is done by increasing Nevada’s privately owned land
and investing in clean energy. We must protect Nevada’s ranchers and

or a platform. When I swore to protect and defend with my life, I hoped

Legislature to create an intermediate appellate court between district
courts and the Supreme Court. It does not mandate creation of an
interstate agreement to provide for collection and enforcement of the
reducing any of its existing exemptions. The question is designed to help
all states better capture such things as tax revenues from Internet sales.
Supporters say Nevada must act in a timely manner to comply with the
nationally adopted Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement because
requiring voter approval to make any changes can cause upwards of
two years’ delay in complying with that national agreement, which can
generate significant revenues for Nevada.
Question 4
A Yes vote will approve changes to the constitutional amendment
approved four years ago known as the People’s Initiative to Stop the
Taking of Our Land (PISTOL), which strictly limited governmental powers
of eminent domain. The original amendment was designed to prevent
governments from condemning property then turning it over to another
private business entity to develop. This amendment was agreed upon by
government as well as the authors of the original PISTOL amendment
to fix several problems all agreed could cost taxpayers far more money
and interfere with efforts to build and maintain infrastructure such as
schools, roads, water supply, sewage systems and public transportation.
Supporters say it will still protect property owners from improper moves
by state or local government to take their land.
Opponents say it will weaken the original amendment’s protections of
their property rights.

Question 1

A Yes vote would authorize the Carson City School District to issue
general obligation school bonds to finance the acquisition, construction,
improvement and equipping of school facilities. The bond would be
tax neutral; your taxes would not go up or down as a result of the
question passing or failing. Funds provided by the bonds will be used by
the District to finance the acquisition, construction, improvement and
equipment of schools and school support facilities, as needed between
now and November 2, 2020. If the proceeds of the taxes generated by
the 43 cents per $100 of assessed value are not needed for payment of
the bonds and purposes related to bonds including the required reserves
for bonds, the proceeds may be used to pay for capital projects of the
district.
A “no” vote would prevent the district from issuing general obligation
school bonds or utilizing available property tax revenues as outlined in
this Question. If the question does not pass, the funds would go to the
city’s general fund.

Question 2

This ballot question will serve to advise the Nevada Legislature of

whether the majority of the voting public believes that the consent
of the governing body of the local government should be required
before the State Legislature can act to decrease revenues or reserves
collected by, distributed to, or held by the local government, or impose
fees on or mandate new or different services be performed by the
local government. The Nevada Association of Counties has estimated
that since July 2008 the Legislature has taken over $265 million in
revenues collectively from the 17 Nevada counties to balance the
State’s budget. If approved, this question would send the message to
the Nevada Legislature that the voters of this county want their local
taxes to fund the provision of services by their local government and
that the State should balance its budget without taking revenue from
local governments. A vote against the question would send the message
that the primary responsibility of providing government services remains
with the state, therefore it is the duty of the state to use available
revenue regardless of the source to balance its budget and carry out its
responsibilities.
