CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
1.1.GENERAL
Today it is almost impossible to visualize a major city without tall buildings. As the most
vital signs of today’s cities, high rise building has become a source of faith in knowledge and
nationwide pleasure, and has changed the concept of the contemporary city along with its scale
and appearance. In the past, the forms used in design were restricted but currently freedom in
propose of tall buildings has significantly increased, along with a contemporary widening of the
form spectrum in design. Tall buildings today, calculated through the support of highly
developed computer technologies, are built through exceptionally audacious architectural and
structural designs that are more or less not at all bring into being in their predecessors. The
mainly significant factors enabling the creation of high rise buildings are developments and
innovations in the subsequent areas: resources, building techniques, working (mechanical)
systems, structural system and investigation, but by the side of the identical time, the raise in the
elevation of buildings makes them vulnerable to wind speed and seismic activity induce lateral
loads.
When it comes to structural point of view height-rise buildings, the unexpected elevation
is an issue wind-seismic loads will affect easily when compared to low-rise building. Calculating
the lateral loads more difficult than the gravity loads.
Earthquake masses is direct proportional to structure mass, on the other hand wind loads
depend on the height of building as the height increases the wind forces will increase, in height
rise buildings wind loads are dominant while mid & low rise buildings wind loads are generally
an unimportant issue. Consequently, the residence reassure takes eminence in the design of
structural system in high building, & it is essential to control the structure lean. In high building,
this is able to be described as perpendicular cantilever beam, According to the government
department of IS 875:1987 Part III, satisfactory boundary for peak deflection in elevated
structure for wind study is 1/500 of structure altitude
To defeat lateral load owed to seismic activity & wind speed, core wall have been
provide by the side of middle of structure.
Core wall (steel or concrete) is a incredibly efficient & realistic structural scheme which is
cooperative in plummeting the deflection owed to earthquake and wind loads. Though, as

Department of Civil, LIET 1

structure increase in elevation, rigidity of core wall merely is not enough to defend against wind
force and earthquake load. This complexity creates require of modernization of different recent
structural systems. For every composite form group, tall buildings are designed with a variety of
structural system, such as braced tube, dia-grid and outrigger systems.

1.2.THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS OF TALL BUILDINGS

Structures can be classified on the origin of the equipment used in their structural systems
[structural materials of the columns, beams, shear trusses (braces), shear walls and outriggers] as:

 Steel
 Reinforced concrete
 Composite
Tall building structural systems:
 Rigid frame systems
 Flat plate/slab systems
 Core systems
 Shear wall systems
 Shear-frame systems
 Shear trussed frame (braced frame) systems
 Shear walled frame systems
 Mega column (mega frame, space truss) systems
 Mega core systems
 Outrigger frame systems
 Tube systems
 Framed-tube systems
 Trussed-tube systems
 Bundled-tube systems

1.3. OUTRIGGERED FRAME SYSTEMS

The outriggers are structural rudiments linking the core to the edge columns at single or
additional level all the way through the elevation of the structure so as to strengthen the

Department of Civil, LIET 2

constitution (Fig.1.1). An outrigger consists a horizontal shear truss. To create them adequately
efficient, outriggers are at slightest single storey deep, and have a high flexural and shear
rigidity. Because the outriggers affect the interior space, they are generally located at the
mechanical equipment floors in order not to hinder the use of normal floors.

Fig.1. 1:Outriggered frame system

At the level of the outriggers, connecting the boundary columns to all other with belts,
improve the effectiveness of the structure by equalizing the axial column loads along the
perimeter. In this manner, the column, which is linked to the middle by the outrigger, distributes
the axial weight consequence of the outrigger to further column via belt. A belt is made up of a
horizontal shear truss and of equal depth to the outrigger (Fig.1.1).
In this way, all outside columns are joined collectively to participate in supporting the
outriggers. Belts are used not only in the aforementioned conservative outrigger systems, but
also used in the “virtual” outrigger systems. Virtual outriggers idea takes benefit of base
diaphragms to get rid of straight link of center and boundary column through outriggers. A
virtual outrigger consists of strap, & story slab occupied by strap. In this manner, the problem
associated with the gap engaged by the conventional outriggers is avoided. Efficiency of the V.O
depends on the inflexibility of the girdle and story slab at belt levels.

Department of Civil, LIET 3

In cases where an outrigger is used at a single level all the way through the altitude of the
structure, the most effective most advantageous position for the outrigger is approximately 40–
60 % of the structure elevation. (Smith and Coull, 1991; Taranath, 1998) (Section 3.9.2).
There is a relation between the number of levels where outriggers are used throughout the
height of the building and their optimum locations. The best possible position of “n” quantity
of outriggers used at level all through the elevation of the construction can be given
approximately by the formula 1/(n+1), 2/(n+1) … n/(n+1)n(Smith and Coull, 1991) (Section
3.9.2). The optimum locations for outriggers at single or two levels all the way through the
altitude of the structure using various assumptions are calculated in Sections 3.9.1 and 3.9.2.
Addition of each new outrigger level increases the solidity of the construction, however by a
lesser quantity than the increase at the preceding level (Smith and Coull, 1991) (Section 3.9.2)..

1.3.1. THE BEHAVIOR OF OUTRIGGERED FRAME SYSTEMS

outriggers cantilevered starting the middle are allied unbendingly to the outer limits
column (Fig.1.2a), these columns are subject to additional twisting moment & axial loads
transferred from the outriggers, & the structure cannot completely benefit from the moment
hauling ability of the shear core. In additional, as soon as outriggers are linked by hinge to the
boundary column (Figure 1.2b), by overcrowding the shift of the twisting moment preliminary
the outriggers to the columns, the column axial weight ability is improved and the structure
totally benefits from the moment carrying capability of the shear core. For this reason, hinged
connections between outriggers and perimeter columns increase the effectiveness of the
construction by maximizing the utilization of not only the moment resisting ability of the shear
core but also the axial capability of the columns.

In a easy analytical model, the behavior of an outrigger frame system under lateral loads
(Fig.1.3 can be divided into 2 as a perpendicular beam core beneath lateral load & as the similar
core by way of restoring moment shaped by the outrigger’s lever outcome (Fig.1.4).
The outrigger transfer the restoring instant to the center, performing as a hinge, with the lever
result controlled by the outer limits column and resist the turning round of the center underneath
sideways.

1.3.2. ADVANTAGES OF OUTRIGGERS

 Outrigger structure is able to be integrated into steel, concrete or combined structures.
 inflexible framework links can be avoided on the exterior frame of the structures,
bringing Out economies
 significant decrease or total removal in the net tension forces in the columns
And foundations
 The exterior line spacing is not govern by structural thoughtfulness & be able to
effortlessly Spaced as of visual and practical point of view

LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 GENERAL
Various research works and experiments have been approved out since a long era all in
excess of the globe to appreciate or to estimate the end product of earth quake loads on presented
R.C.C building in sky-scraping earthquake zone and in hilly terrains. The concept of modeling
and analysis techniques used for this purpose has also been getting improved with advancement
of engineering and technology as well as with past experience.

2.2 PREVIOUS RESEARCH WORK ON OUTRIGGER AND BELT TRUSSES

A study carried by Po SengKian, Frits TorangSiahaan on ''The use of outrigger and belt
truss system for high-rise concrete buildings'' This paper studies the use of outrigger and belt
truss system for high-rise concrete building subjected to wind or earthquake load. Eight
40−storey two dimensional models of outrigger and belt truss system are subjected to wind load;
and five 60−storey three dimensional models are subjected to earthquake load, analyzed and
compared to find the lateral displacement reduction related to the outrigger and belt system
location. There are some factors affecting the effectiveness of outrigger system. They are the
stiffness and location of the outrigger and belt truss system, the geometry, the core, and floor to-
floor height of the building. This paper proposed to study the use of diagonal outrigger and belt
truss placed at different location subjected to wind or earthquake load, The design of wind load
was calculated based on CP 3, British Standard and the earthquake load obtained using was
Indonesian response spectra zone 4. With computer analysis program, the locations of outrigger
and belt truss for reducing lateral displacement, building drift, and core moment, can be
obtained. The GT-Strudl package program is used to analyze the structure subjected to wind load
in two-dimensional analysis, while ETABS software program is selected to perform three-
dimensional structure subjected to earthquake load in static and dynamic analysis (modal
analysis). The results found shows that the use of outrigger and belt truss system in high-rise
buildings increase the stiffness and makes the structural form efficient under lateral load. For
two-dimensional model, single outrigger provided at the middle of the structure height reduces
the maximum displacement by 56 %, while providing first outrigger at the top and second
outrigger at the middle of the structure height reduces displacement by 65%. For three

Department of Civil, LIET 8

dimensional structural model subjected to the earthquake load, about 18% reduction in lateral
displacement can be achieved with optimum location of the outrigger truss at the top and 33rd
level. (In order to improve the performance of the structural aspect, the maximum displacement
at the top floor becomes one of the most important factors affecting the occupant’s comfort) (Po
Seng Kian, 2001).

A study carried by P.M.B.Raj Kiran, on ''Optimum Position of Outrigger System for High-
Rise Reinforced Concrete Buildings Under Wind And Earthquake Loadings'' The reason of
the current effort is to revise the application of outrigger and belt truss located at diverse position
applied to wind or Seismic forces. The design of wind force was premeditated base on I.
Standard 87.5 (Part--3) & the earthquake load obtained using IS 1893 (Part-1): 2002. The place
where outrigger and restraint tie up for dropping displacement, construction drifts and center
moments is able to be obtained. The ETABS software program is preferred to carry out study.
The current revision is restricted to (RC) multi-storied equal structure. All the construction
models analyze in the revision have 30storeys with steady storey elevation of 3m.
The final results show that the exercise of outrigger and belt tie scheme in tall buildings increases
the rigidity and makes the structural shape well-organized beneath sideways forces. The highest
drift at the peak of constitution once only middle is working is approximately 70.63 mm and this
is condensed by correctly selecting the side scheme. The preface of outrigger at peak storey as a
restrict bind is 4.8.20 mm and 407.63 mm with and with no strap tie up correspondingly. In this
reason there are not numerous reductions in float with belt up tie. In terms of the following
outrigger by limit tie up gives the decrease of 18.55% and 23.01% by means of and not including
belt up bind.

A study carried by Syed RizwanNasir, Amaresh S. Patel on ''Lateral Stability Analysis of High
Rise Building with the Effect of Outrigger and Belt Truss System''The outrigger and belt truss
system is one of the most efficient systems used to effectively control the excessive drift due to
lateral load, so that, during small or medium lateral load due to either wind or earthquake load,
the risk of structural and non-structural damage can be minimized. This paper studies the
efficient use of outrigger and belt truss system for high-rise concrete building subjected to wind
or earthquake load.

Department of Civil, LIET 9

Objectives of the study were the following:
1. To study the effect of introduction of Outriggers in high rise building subjected to dynamic
wind loading.
2. To study the influence of core wall and braced core wall with X braced outriggers.
3. To study the parameters with different types of Outriggers, i.e. X Bracings and V Bracings and
Inverted V Bracings.
4. To study the influence of steel outrigger in comparison with concrete outrigger.
5. To study the effect of Outriggers with and without Peripheral Belt Truss.
it was observed through the research that the X-braced Outriggers is very much effective; as it
shows minimum lateral displacement followed by Inverted V-braced Outriggers and V-braced
Outriggers. The steel outriggers are found least effective compared to Concrete one. Although
Steel outriggers can be employed as the light weight substitute for concrete
From the study it can be concluded that wind is a dominating factor and outriggers are effective
in reducing wind effect as compared earthquake forces and also Steel Outriggers can be used as
an alternative to the other strengthening techniques available as the total weight of the existing
building will remain almost same (Nasir & Patil, 2016).

Abdul KarimMulla and Shrinivas B.N (2015) had carried out research on ‘’Outrigger System
in a Tall R.C Structure with Steel Bracing’’ Objectives of the study was the following:
1. The use of outriggers in a regular and vertical irregular building under earthquake forces.

According to author the major reason of earthquake was vertical irregularities though it
can be avoided by providing outrigger to increase lateral stiffness. In this article researchers have
performed the comparative analysis of 3 dimensional regular and vertically irregular shaped
symmetrical plan 20 storey structures with and without providing outrigger beam subjected to

Department of Civil, LIET 10

earthquake load. The analysis of structure was done by equivalent static method and response
spectrum method as per the Indian standard code practice. To measure the efficiency of the
structure authors have considered parameters such as lateral displacement, story drift, base shear
and fundamental natural period. On the same line authors have also examined the response of the
structure with varying seismic zones as well as the behaviour of outrigger by equivalent static
and response spectrum method by incorporating concrete and steel outrigger. Further they have
also focused on the determination of optimum location of outrigger beam to lower the lateral
displacement.
It was observed through this research that there is considerable reduction in Time period
when outrigger was introduced in regular and irregular building structure which will improve the
overall stiffness of the structure. Base shear will reduce and minimize the inter story drift by
incorporating outrigger. Geometric vertical irregularity was more effective due to reduction of
self-weight compared to regular building and Concrete outrigger are more effective than steel
outrigger with X bracing type in reducing lateral story displacement (Mulla, 2015).

Thejaswini R. M. and Rashmi A. R. have carried out a comparative study and analysis of
different lateral load resisting structural systems to understand the realistic performance of
the building during earthquake and under the excessive wind pressure as well as to select
structural system of tall building to stay in good condition with effect of gravity, live load and
external lateral load, moment, shear force and torque with acceptable strength and stiffness. For
this research work they have modelled a geometrically irregular RCC high rise building with
different forms of structural system, such as Rigid frame structure, Core wall structure, and
Shear wall structure with different configurations of shear
wall location, Tube structure and outrigger structure. Results of the analysis reveal that the
values of displacement were less in tube structure and outrigger structural system. The authors
have also stated that in geometrically irregular structure; stability of structure
will boost and the columns sway can be reduced by implementing L-shaped shear wall along the
corners of the structure. One important conclusion that the researchers have drawn from this
study is that when outrigger structural system is provided at a story which has maximum drift, it
can perform as a maximum drift controller (Thejaswini & Rashmi, 2015).

CHAPTER 4
METHODS OF ANALYSIS
4.1 GENERAL
In common, for design of tall buildings both wind as well as earthquake loads need to be
considered. The main aim of seismic analysis is to make the building earthquake resistant rather
earthquake proof. The building designed for this purpose will resist the actions of ground
shaking although the building may get damaged but will not collapse during the severe seismic
effects. In the other sense the main objective of earthquake analysis is to evaluate the forces
developed, their remedies and to calculate the ability of structure and their elements against these
forces, Also When wind interacts with a building, both positive and negative pressures occur
simultaneously, the building must have sufficient strength to resist the applied loads from these
pressures to prevent wind induced building failure.

The analysis methods that are adopted are as follows,

1. Linear static analysis (Equivalent static method)
2. Static Wind analysis
3. Linear dynamic analysis (Response spectrum analysis)
4. Dynamic Wind Analysis
In this study a 36 storey Moment resisting frame building is analyzed by Equivalent static
method, static wind analysis, Response Spectrum method as well as Dynamic Wind Analysis as
per Indian standard codes of practice IS 1893(Part 1):2002 and IS 875(Part 3):1987. The
performance of building is noted in terms of lateral displacement, storey drift, base shear and
time period for structure.

CHAPTER 5
ANALYTICAL MODELLING
5.1 INTRODUCTION
The majority of the older structures, which are far above the ground, average to low
RC.C frame, were not calculated to oppose main or reasonable EQs. The plan of such building is
more often than not complete by means of magnitude load with no bearing in mind the seismic
masses, which makes these structures susceptible throughout the occasion of Seismic.
Consequently it is necessary to think the seismic forces whilst designing such building to
alleviate the effects of main earthquake.
In the current study the gravity load analysis and lateral load analysis for the RC frame
building with the provision of introduction of outriggers as per seismic codes for zone is carried
out and an effort is made to study the effect of seismic loads on them and thus assess their
seismic vulnerability by performing analysis. The static and dynamic analysis is carried out using
ETABS software.

1.2 5.2 METHOD OF MODELLING

The ETABS software is utilized to create 3D model and to carry out the analysis. The software is
able to predict the behavior of space frames under static or dynamic loadings, taking into account
material in elasticity. The software accepts static loads as well as dynamic loads and has the
ability to perform static and dynamic analysis.

1.3 5.4 DESIGN PROCEDURE

5.4.1. EQUIVALENT STATIC METHOD
The equivalent static method is considered to be the simplest method for analysis of multi-storied
building. In equivalent static method, when the structure is contacted with the static-force, it is
considered elastic. In this method the lateral-force are placed in two principal axis i.e. (x and y
axis) and the results of interior-force are mixed up by using the combination method. The
building which has to be analyzed by linear static method should have some criteria for its
geometrical-regularity and firmness.
1. The member which are used for resisting lateral- load (column and wall) should move from
down to up
2. The weight and lateral stiffness does not vary-suddenly from down to up.
3. For geometrical asymmetries or in layout plans the certain values should be maintained.
5.4.2. STATIC WIND ANALYSIS:
Design wind speed (vz): The basic wind speed (Vb) for any site shall be obtained
From Fig. 1(IS 8875-3-19887) and shall be modified to include the following effects to get
design wind velocity at any height (Vz) for the chosen structure:
a) Risk level;
b) Terrain roughness, height and size of structure and
c) Local topography.
It can be mathematically expressed as follows:

Department of Civil, LIET 25

Vz= Vb. K1. K2. K3
5.4.3. RESPONSE SPECTRUM METHOD
This method is used to show the interaction between the structural system and acceleration of
ground for the several record of ground motion. In this method analysis of earthquake force is
done IS 1893(part1-2002)(Bureau of Indian Standards, 2002).
Following procedure is generally used for the spectrum-analysis:
1. Select the design spectrum.
2. Determine the mode shapes and periods of vibration to be included in the analysis.
3. Read the level of response from the spectrum for the period of each of the modes considered.
4. Calculate the participation of each mode corresponding to the single degree of freedom
response read from the curve.
5. Add the effect of modes to obtain combined maximum response.
6. Convert the combined maximum response into shears and moments for use in design of the
structures.
7. Analyze the building for the resulting moments and shears in the same manner as static loads.
5.4.4. GUST EFFECTIVENESS FACTOR METHOD
Design Wind Speed: Wind speed in the atmospheric boundary layer increases with height from
at ground level to maximum at a height called the gradient height. The building is assumed to be
in Hyderabad region, and basic wind speed as per IS 875(Part 3) 1987(Standards, 1987) will be
44m/s. The basic wind speed shall be modified to include risk level, terrain roughness, height of
the structure and local topography to get the design wind velocity Vz is given as:
Vz= Vb. K1. K2. K3
Where, VZ= Design wind speed in m/s at any height 'z' m
Vb = Basic wind speed for various zones
K1= Probability factor (risk coefficient)
K2 = Terrain roughness and height factor
K3= Topography factor

Risk coefficient (K1): suggested life period to be assumed and the corresponding K1 factor for
different class of structures as per IS: 875 (Part 3).
Terrain and height factor (K2): Selection of terrain categories shall be made with due regard to
the effect of obstruction, which constitute the ground surface.

Department of Civil, LIET 26

Topography Factor (K3): The effect of topography will be significant at a site when the upwind
slope is greater than about 3°, and below that, the value of K3 may be taken to be equal to 1.0.
The value of K3 is confined in the range of 1.0 to 1.36 for slopes greater than 3°.

Design Wind Pressure: The design wind pressure at any height above mean level shall be
obtained by the following relationship between wind pressure and wind velocity:
PZ=0.6 VZ2
Where, PZ= Design wind pressure in N/m2 at height ‘z’ m
VZ = design wind velocity in m/s at height ‘z’ m

Gust Factor
A gust factor, defined as the ratio between a peak wind gust and mean wind speed over a
period of time can be used along with other statistics to examine the structure of the wind. Gust
factors are heavily dependent on upstream terrain conditions.

Chart 6. 8: Lateral Displacement for Load case (EQ-Y) for various Models

Department of Civil, LIET 59

From the Table 6.1 to 6.8 the following observations are noted:-

 The lateral displacement is maximum at the roof level and minimum at the base.
Response Spectrum and Dynamic wind analysis
 The Concrete Outrigger with belt truss Model shows minimum lateral displacement than
the Steel Outrigger with belt truss Model.
 By providing concrete outriggers with concrete core wall (M-1), the lateral displacement
of building is reduced up to 8.27% & 22.08% in longitudinal and in transverse direction
respectively in case of RSA and reduced up to 28.57% & 53.72% in longitudinal and in
transverse direction respectively in case of DWA.
 By providing concrete outriggers and belt truss with concrete core wall (M-2), the lateral
displacement of building is reduced up to 8.27% & 22.08% in longitudinal and in
transverse direction respectively in case of RSA and reduced up to 9.15% & 22.41% in
longitudinal and in transverse direction respectively in case of DWA.
 Using Box section steel outrigger with concrete core wall (M-3), it shows that the lateral
displacement of the building is reduced up to 6.46%&16.33% in longitudinal and in

Chart 6. 10: Comparison of maximum storey displacement for all Models

6.2.2 STOREY DRIFT

Drift is generally defined as lateral displacement of one story relative to story below. The
permissible storey drift according to IS 1893(Part 1):2002 is limited to 0.004 times the storey
height, so that minimum damage would take place during earthquake and pose less psychological
fear in the minds of people. The maximum storey drifts for various building models along
longitudinal and transverse direction obtained from response spectrum and dynamic wind
analysis from ETABS are shown in tables below.
The Storey drift for Models with and without Outriggers, different types of outriggers and
steel outriggers for seismic zone V in longitudinal and transverse direction are found out. The
analysis value are tabulated in table 6.7 to 6.12

Response Spectrum and Dynamic wind analysis

 The Storey drift is minimum at the Outrigger levels.

 The Concrete braced Outrigger with belt truss and concrete core wall shows
maximum storey drifts reduction than the other kind of Outriggers studied.
 The concrete braced Outrigger with concrete core wall model shows maximum storey
drift reduction next to The Concrete braced Outrigger with belt truss and concrete
core wall model.
 The Steel Outrigger model shows least storey drift reduction than the other models
 By providing Concrete braced Outrigger with belt truss and concrete core wall, the
storey drift of building is reduced up to 42.27% and 56.96% in longitudinal and
transverse direction in case of RSA.
 By providing Concrete braced Outrigger with belt truss and concrete core wall, the
storey drift of building is reduced up to 54.98% and 74.36% in longitudinal and
transverse direction in case of DSA.
Static wind and earthquake
 By providing Concrete braced Outrigger with belt truss and concrete core wall, the
storey drift of building is reduced up to 95.48% and 71.59% in longitudinal and in
transverse direction in case of Static earthquake.
 By providing Concrete braced Outrigger with belt truss and concrete core wall, the
storey drift of building is reduced up to 37.95% and 54.22% in longitudinal and in
transverse direction in case of Static Wind Analysis.

ANALYSIS

Chart 6. 20: Comparison of maximum storey drifts for all Models

6.2.3 BASE SHEAR

Base shear can be defined as the maximum lateral force which will occur at base of structure
because of seismic ground motion. The base shear for different models of moment resisting RC
frame structure for seismic zone 5 in longitudinal and transverse direction by Response Spectrum
Method and Dynamic Wind Analysis is found out. These results are compared with the building
with different types of braced outriggers. The analysis values are tabulated in table 6.1

Chart 6. 30: Comparison of Base shear for all Models

The table shows the comparison of base shear for different models by response spectrum analysis
and dynamic wind analysis in longitudinal and transverse direction. It is observed from the table
that base shear reading noted from dynamic wind analysis has the larger values compared to the
base shear reading noted by response spectrum analysis. From the graph it is also observed that
model 1 has less base shear compared to different models in longitudinal and transverse direction
for RSA and for DWA it is highest amongst all.

6.2.4 FUNDAMENTAL TIME PERIOD

All objects including buildings and the ground have a natural period, i.e. the time it takes to
swing back and forth, from point A to point B and back again. Seismic waves when travels under
the ground it also moves at its natural period. It will pose a problem if the period of both ground
an building resting on ground is same. When these two vibrate at the same rate, they resonate
which leads to disaster. Height is also one of major factors affecting the period.
The fundamental natural period, frequency and percentage of mass participated in X, Y and Z
direction has been tabulated in the table 6.13 to 6.19

After the provision of bracings the frequency increases and time period goes on decreasing. By
the provision of the bracings there will be increase in stiffness of the member. The natural period
decreases as the stiffness of the building increases and thereby leading to increase in frequency

CHAPTER 7
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSIONS
The following Conclusions were drawn based on the Observations made:
1. The provision of outriggers and belt trusses in high rise buildings increases the stiffness
and stability of the building when compared to the building without outriggers under the
action of lateral loads (wind and earthquake loadings)
2. The Concrete Outrigger with belt truss Model shows minimum lateral displacement than
the Steel Outrigger with belt truss Model.
3. The Storey drift is minimum at the Outrigger levels
4. Bare frame model is flexible among all the models therefore to make a conventional RC
structural frames more effective to resist lateral forces in the form of seismic waves and
wind forces, some lateral structural members has to be in cooperated in the building
model in the form of shear walls, core walls, bracings.
