Characteristics of Civilization Google Slides Project

Objective: Students will create an 8 slide Google Slideshow Presentation using 3

of the Characteristics of Civilization in Sumer. The slides will focus on 1
Characteristic and an example from Sumer and a modern day example from
Boston.
Students will complete the graphic organizer provided as they research the 3
characteristics they have chosen. Students will turn in the organizer on Friday for a
classwork grade.

The following directions explain what each slide should have on it

Slide 1: Title Slide 5 points

Slide 1 should have Your name, the title “Characteristics of Civilization, and 2 pictures
that represents Mesopotamia or Sumer

Slide 2: Map Slide 6 points

Slide 2 should have a map of Mesopotamia or Fertile Crescent with a definition of
Mesopotamia and why civilization started there.

Slide 3: Characteristic 1 and Example from Sumer (8 points)

Slide 3 should have a characteristic of civilization (example Technology)
 Example of the characteristic that the Sumerians had and How it worked 3
points (example: An example of technology that the Sumerians had was the sailboat.
 How it improved/affected Sumerian life 3 points 3-4 sentences/bullet points
 At least 1 photo example of the characteristic 2 points
Slide 4: Modern Example of Characteristic 1 (5 points)
the modern day example of the Characteristic in Slide 3
Photograph 2 pts.
Caption explaining why the photo/picture is a modern day example of that characteristic of
civilization. Example: This picture shows a ___________. This is a modern example of
____________ (ex. Technology) because_____________________

For Slides 5-8 Students will repeat the directions for Slides 3 and 4 to explain their
2nd and 3rd characteristic.
