STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Having pursued a vocational course in Electronics at the Higher Secondary (H.S.C.)

level, I developed a keen interest in the field of Analog Electronics, partly as a result of
the lab component accompanying the coursework. Moreover, the labs that I was exposed
to during this time, while pursuing the +2 curriculum at the D. G. Ruparel College,
Mumbai were very highly developed since the college offered Masters in Science
courses in Electronics, and we were encouraged to make full use of the facilities. I was
also lucky enough to have extremely knowledgeable and dedicated teachers who created
a strong basis for my future studies in the field, by painstakingly resolving even the most
fundamental of my queries. As a result of my penchant for the subject, I enrolled for
Bachelors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Honours after completing my
H.S.C. During my first two years, I attempted to supplement my interest in the field of
Electronics and especially in Analog Electronics by trying to study the advances and
future opportunities in the field. During the course of my exploration in the subject, I
came across the concept of Adaptive Piezoelectric Circuits, wherein the primary aim was
to devise ways to harness energy from day-to-day human activities such as walking. I
was enthralled by this concept, and was encouraged to study deeply, concepts this field
especially because not large untapped opportunities were available for original research
in this field. As part of my research, I have authored two papers on the subject which
were selected for presentation at national level paper presentation contests. A major
difficulty that I faced while attempting to optimize the performance of Adaptive
Piezoelectric Circuits was the fact that many of these devices produced extremely low
power outputs, which meant that a substantially low-loss circuit for DC Voltage Level
Shifting would have to be designed to ensure efficiency in implementation. While
searching for a solution to this problem, I delved into the field of CMOS based
integrated circuits, their design and application. Under the guidance of Dr. Iven Jose,
Assistant Professor, BITS Pilani, Goa Campus, who is supervising my current project on
the topic, I spent the last six-eight months analysing and appreciating the cosmic nature
of the CMOS-derived device research field, and I aim to conduct a more detailed
research in this field before returning to its applications in the APCs.

Having been exposed to the working environment of IIT Bombay at an early age due to
my father’s association with the institute, it was always my dream to one day be a part of
the IITB student fraternity so that I could pursue my interests with ample opportunities.
As a result, I am looking at IIT Bombay as my prime target for conducting my off-
campus research activity in my final year, aimed at supplementing the research I am
currently doing in my institute. On perusing through the details of your listed areas of
interest and the projects offered by you for the Summer Fellowship programmes of IIT
Bombay, I am convinced that I will be able to learn greatly from your relevant
knowledge and experience in the field. Hence, I would like to apply to you to present me
with a prospective internship under your esteemed guidance, adhering to the norms and
regulations of the parent institute and as per your requirement and convenience.
