stores in question sold no Bali-

overseas Chinese as sales
assistants. Some of the shops are
believed to operate as “fronts” for
Mainland Chinese businesses
using the “borrowed” names of

Olympic Park tennis
centre
AN Invictus Games crowd
has been brought to tears
by the heartwarming
response to one athlete's
distressing break down.

specialist Paul Guest was
left visibly upset when he
heard a helicopter flying
over the Sydney Olympic
Park Tennis Centre during his
wheelchair tennis doubles match.
The 54-year-old toured Northern
Ireland for the English Armed
Forces before he was injured on
active duty in 1987.
The Navy serviceman suffered
injuries to his neck and spine
during the incident, resulting in
partial deafness and a visibility
impairment and was later
diagnosed with post-traumatic
stress disorder.
Before receiving the care he
needed, Guest attempted suicide
four times following his medical
discharge from the Armed Forces.
It all came back to him in one
traumatic moment at the Sydney
Olympic Park Tennis Centre when
the helicopter could be heard
nearby.
Guest was unable to continue his
service game after being
overcome with emotion.
He was comforted by Dutch

Bali Travel Industry Says
Local Share of Tourism

Chinese Business Interests

practitioners in Bali are complaining
that an international criminal
syndicate is working to take control
of the Mainland Chinese inbound
travel to Bali through coercion and
monopolistic market practice. Local
tourism industry members are
calling for stricter regulation of the
industry and agents that handle the
Chinese inbound travel market.
A tourism entrepreneur and a
member of Commission II of the Bali
House of Representatives (DPRD-
Bali), AA Ngurah Adhi Ardhana, said
reports of discounted Bali tour
packages controlled by a
travel mafia is a familiar
complaint in Bali.
Ardhana alleges that a
network of Chinese
businesses are taking control
of travel agent services,
accommodation booking,
restaurant sales, and even the
shopping utilized by Mainland
Chinese visitors to Bali. These
efforts to monopolize all
expenditures are usually done
by China-based business who have
“borrowed” the name of a local
business person or nominee to
cover their activities.
Adhi Ardhana said the use of a local
nominee in such circumstances is a
violation of the law. Past cases have
been handed over to the Regency
Enforcement Agency (Satpol PP).
But, in Ardhana's opinion, all legal
measures have been weakly
enforced against local agencies
caught in nominee business
practice of surrendering control of
their company to a “behind-the-
scenes” foreign owner.
Adhi Ardhana said that in China
there are laws that forbid citizens
from breaking the law of countries
