A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

ON STAAD.PRO

MADE BY- PRIYANKA TYAGI

BRANCH- CIVIL
INTRODUCTION
 STAAD.PRO is a structural analysis and design program software

 It is used for 3D model generation, analysis and multi-material design

 STAAD.PRO was originally developed by research engineers international in

Yorba Linda, CA

 The commercial version of STAAD.PRO supports several steel, concrete and

timber design codes

GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE OF STAAD
PHASES OF ANALYSIS IN STAAD

1. PRE-PROCESSOR 2. PROCESSOR 3. POST-PROCESSOR

MAKE MODEL, DEFINE GETS RESULT AND APPLY

MATERIAL & PROPERTY, SOLUTION OF PROBLEM CODES ON STRUCTURE
DEFINE LOAD & SUPPORT
FEM- NUMERICAL METHOD USED IN STAAD

FEM stands for finite element method

 Discretization
 Element equation
k*@=F
Where, k= stiffness matrix
@=positional vector
F=equivalent force
 Assembly
 Apply boundary equation
 Solve primary unknowns
 Plot region
Model generation and analysis

Input geometry -nodes, beams, plates

Define properties, supports and loads

Specify analysis type and run analysis

Design

Verify the result

Assigning property
 There are 5 ways in which we can assign the property to a given structure:

1. Assign to view - by this the selected property gets assigned to the whole
structure

2. Assigned by cursor

3. Assign to selected beams

4. Assignment by section database

5. Assignment by user table

Supports
 Supports are defined by the degree of freedom of any
object

 There are 6 DOF :

3 translational
3 rotational

 There are three types of supports provided to a structure:

Fixed
Pinned and
Roller

 Options are provided for fixed and pinned supports while

roller support can be created
Assigning loads

 A structure is generally subjected to these types of loads:

 Dead load
 Live load
 Dead load includes self weight of the structure while live load includes
superimposed load
 In addition to this, a structure is also subjected to wind and seismic forces which
have to be defined along with various load cases
 After creating various load cases we have to assign them to the structure by
selecting that part of the structure on which load has o be assigned
 In case of wind and seismic loads first the definitions needs to be provided and
after the load cases should be entered
 Envelopes are made in advance designing which consist of various combinations
Analysis
SELECT
Analyse
ANALYSIS
• Analysis of a structure means to find & PRINT
the
out the reactions, deflections at Click on RUN CLICK ON problem
OPTION IN
ANALYSE ANALYSIS ADD again
various nodes of a structure PAGE
after
CONTROL
printing
• After analysis we can see shear TOOLBAR
moment and deflection for each
member
• In the post processing mode,
reaction, displacement ,
deflections, shear force, and
bending moment diagram for various
members can be viewed
Design
After analyzing the structure it has
to be designed to carry loads acting
on it

After designing the structure it is

again analysed and result of analysis
for each beam and column is shown
in output file
Steps involved in designing a
structure
Select design in page control tool bar
Then click on concrete if designing a concrete structure
Select suitable codes ex- IS456
Commands
 Beam –add
 Column-add
 Takeoff- add
Assign using suitable assignment methods
Run analysis again
