ANALYSIS:

The book was beautifully written and totally up-to-date text is incomparable.

It was proficiency that students get to see the connection between themselves and the
social world, because of this book I got an idea what sociology’s for. This book was
nice to read because it’s not just a simple one but, comprehensive. The authors were
tackled not just a definition, but also they gave a situation, am example, a graph,
sources and also they recommend a movies related in sociology. This book teaches
student “how” to think sociologically, not just “what” to think and they emphasizes the
importance of diversity and a global perspective. It has been heralded for it’s inclusion
of pop culture examples that instantly connect with today’s student and for it’s
presentation of sociological concepts in a fresh, contemporary light.

According to James Wright, Chattanooga (2005) “This book is broad and holistic
analysis of sociology, It is student-friendly and easy to digest.” “The authors have taken
a chapter described many times by my students as boring (culture) and have turned it
into something interesting and relevant, My students would love this chapter.” It is real
holistic analysis of sociology but through this book, you will identify the through meaning
of sociology and you will understand how sociology connect between society and our
behavior. It is something interesting because you will learn in different aspects of
society.

Aurora Bautista, Bunker Hill CC: “This textbook is an engaging introductory textbook
which is uniquely personal and has the potential for universal appeal.” Yes, This book
has a potential for universal appeal because this book highlighted the contributions of
traditional theoretical approaches and also notes recent theoretical innovations that are
given insufficient attentions in other major textbooks. The authors developed several
unique pedagogical features to draw the connections between student’s experiences
and the larger social interaction.

The content of this book is very creative and knowledgeable. It was an interesting to
read because almost everything about sociology will found in this book. Everything was
different here. The New World was unimaginably rich in resources. This book is one of
virtually instant long-distance communication, global economies and cultures weakening
nation-states and technology advances that often make the daily news. It was very
informative because it examines the world wide web, television, and other means of
modern mass communication to illustrate such concepts as globalization, social
networks, minority representations, body image, political protest and the establishment
of community and also the authors also provided briefs reviews of movies, most of them
recent releases, and highlight the sociological issues, they raised and sociological
insights they contain.

One of the strengths of this book is that it does not present sociology as a set of
immutable truths carved in stone tablets. Instead, It shows how sociologists actually go
about the business of solving sociological puzzles. Sociology: Your compass for a new
world The brief edition is a unique in presenting a realistic and balanced account of the
role of objectivity and subjectivity in the research process. Authors have made diversity
and globalization prominent themes of this book. They incorporate dozens of original
maps that illustrate the distributions of sociological variables globally and regionally and
the relationship among variables across time and space. They remain sensitive to
gender and race issues throughout. This has been easy for us because we are
members of racial and ethnic minority groups. This book explains how certain
sociological issues first arose in our own minds. They often adopt a narrative style
because stories let students understand the ideas on an emotional as well as an
intellectual level. And when they form an emotional attachment to ideas, they stay with
us more effectively than if their attachment is solely intellectual. They place the ideas of
important sociological figures in social and historical context. They show how
sociological methodologies serves as a reality check, but they also make it clear that
socially grounded personal concerns often lead sociologists to decide which aspects of
reality are worth checking on in the first place. It is gratifying to see how much less
parochial American introductory sociology textbooks are today than they were just 20
years ago. Contemporary textbooks highlighted gender and race issues they broaden
the students understanding of the world by comparing the United States with other
societies. They show how global processes. Sociology: Your compass for a new world
The brief edition is no different in this regard. This book is a response of their
suggestions and especially their request for a briefer treatment of several topics that
would more easily allow the entire book to be covered in a single 15 or 6 weeks course.
Remarkably, Sociology: Your compass for a new world the brief edition, deals with all
but one of the sociological subfields the second edition covers. Yet, despite it’s
comprehensiveness, it is the most concise introduction to sociology on the market. It is
35 percent shorter than the second edition and they reduced the members of chapters
from 22-16. The authors also thoroughly updated the brief edition to incorporate the
latest research findings, created an exciting new pedagogical feature (Mass media and
Society), accentuated even more sharply than is the case in earlier editions the
contributions of the major theoretical perspectives to sociological research and added
many subheadings to help guide the students through this book.

Because we have subject that related in Sociology, It’s easy for me to identify the
weaknesses of this book. Then I saw that there are some deficiency topics in this book
compare the discussion of my sociology’s teacher. Although it was in-depth and
informative but I think it’s not more efficiency, for example; In terms of suicide,
according of this book, there are only 3 types of suicide but our teacher’s said, there are
4 types of suicide. In this book there is no Fatalistic Suicide which is included in types of
suicide. There are topics that didn’t much explained and elaborate and the content looks
not organized. The topics was being described is sometimes indirect to the point. There
are some cases that I didn’t understand because it was deficiency for me. And you will
not easy to understand and to determine what is that for. But through reading this book
some questions in our minds will be answered because the authors provided evidences.
Current situations and everything is based on fact. Furthermore, this book has a big
benefits for the instructor’s resource manual and most especially for the students like
me, to determine the connection of society between human behavior and how can we
interact with others.
