HASSELBLAD H6D-400C MS
`29,05,198 hasselblad.com

We’ve been searching for the right camera

to document our vintage Star Wars toys in
magnificent detail. Hasselblad has now provided
the perfect tool, with its epic 400MP camera,
available this spring. Okay, so a 400MP camera iss
overkill for us, but museum folk and nature
photographers will love the H6D-400c MS
for documenting antiquities, art and bugs.
Hasselblad says the camera produces the highesst
resolution and most colour-accurate medium-
format images on the market, utilising True Focus II
tech (precision-focus adjustment) and Multi-Shoot
capture, which merges six images into one super-r-
high-res shot. The camera also offers 4K video
capture. Hmm, maybe we should shoot a promo
video for our radio-controlled Jawa Sandcrawler?r?

T3 SAYS: Capture the world in unprecedented

detail with this 400MP multi-shot monster.

JABRA ELITE 65T

`12,999, amazon.in

The upside to wearing wireless earbuds is that we

can go hands-free and don’t have to deal with
pesky wires. The downsides often include
middling battery life and abnormally large buds.
While we can’t speak for sizing, Jabra’s new Elite
65t wireless earbuds (also available in a sporty
Active 65t model) have caught our eye by
flaunting one-touch access to Amazon Alexa,
Google Now and Siri, and a claimed five-hour
battery life from a single charge with up to 15
hours via the included charging case. There’s
even a customisable EQ feature for tailored
sound. Jabra has wind noise covered too, with
ample wind noise reduction tech to keep your
music sweet, and a four-mic array for clearer
voice calls.

T3 SAYS: With integrated Alexa, Siri and Google

ROWRITE SMART WRITING PAD

`TBA, royole.com

Plenty of authors extol the virtues of handwriting

ideas and stories as a way to get the creative juices
flowing. Typing up those notes and stories can be a
real pain, which is why we always keep an eye out for
new smart writing devices.
Royole hopes it has made such a device with the
RoWrite Smart Writing Pad, designed to digitally
reproduce, store and share handwritten or hand-
drawn work. When sitting underneath a sheet of
ordinary paper the RoWrite instantly reproduces and
saves your work, ready for syncing with your other
smart devices or the cloud, with no pesky
lag either.
We look forward to digitally preserving our doodlings
when the RoWrite ships the product.

T3 SAYS: Royole’s smart writing pad could be ideal

for students, writers and those who want to digitally
preserve hand-drawn work.

DJI MAVIC AIR

`TBA, dji.com

How many times have you stacked a drone?

These things look easy to fly but most take some
getting used to, unless you’re a whizz. If you’re
not, DJI has designed its new hobby drone with
you in mind. The Mavic Air weighs less than a
pound, folds down to fit in a (roomy) pocket and
can fly itself without any help from you, thanks
very much. The Mavic Air is infused with
obstacle-avoidance tech and automated flight
modes, including some that require only a
controller tap from you before the drone whizzes
off (up to a 2.4 mile flight range) to shoot 4K
video, 12MP stills and 32MP spherical panoramas
via the built-in camera. You can boss the drone
around with hand gestures, too, making it take
endless selfies of you prancing around in the
park.

T3 SAYS: We love the folding design and

automated flight modes, and that price is decent.

XIAOMI MI TV 4A
From `13,999, www.mi.com/in

Soon after making a debut in the television segment

with Mi TV 4, Xiaomi is expanding their line up with M Mi
TV 4A available in 32” and 43” sizes. Although both
share the same base hardware, the key difference is
with the 43” model sporting a full HD (1920x1080)
panel while the smaller one is HD ready (1366x768).
The display panel has a 60Hz refresh rate and a
178-degree viewing angle. The sound setup consists of
dual 10W speakers with support for DTS-HD audio.
Like its elder sibling, the 4A series has an 11-button Mi
Remote that can double up as controller for the set-top op
box via a separately sold Mi IR cable. It also runs on
Xiaomi’s custom PatchWall UI which is based on deep p
learning AI. It will adapt to user’s viewing habits and
accordingly suggest content. Multiple users need nott

XIAOMI REDMI 5
From `7,999, www.mi.com/in

Hot on the heels of the Redmi Note 5 comes the

handier Redmi 5 adopting a bezel-less design that’s
currently all the rage, leading to a larger 5.7” ‘full
screen’ IPS display to be fit inside a smaller form
factor. Internally, Xiaomi has gone with a Qualcomm
Snapdragon 450 SoC based on a 14nm
manufacturing process as opposed to the 28nm
processors used in the previous 2 models. Not only
does it mean improved battery life but also better
performance. Qualcomm claims up to 25% faster
graphics rendering and 30% lower power
consumption in comparison to Snapdragon 435 that
was used in Redmi 4 last year. The one thing that’s
been reduced is the battery gone down from
4100mAh to 3300mAh. It is available in 3
RAM+storage variants: 2+16, 3+32 and 4+64. Further,
they will come in a number of colours including
black, gold, rose gold and blue.

T3 Says: Looks like the base model will be ignored.

We recommend going for the 3+32GB model for the

continuous logged user data. Other features include a
4-day battery life, personalised on-device health

model continues the tradition of being a super light and
thin convertible laptop. As a result the design has
become sleeker and angular further accentuated with
the sculpted CNC machined aluminium body. On the
inside, the 13.3” FHD display protected by Corning

seriously as evidenced by the fingerprint reader on the
side, Sure View integrated privacy screen and Wide

Viewsonic boasts that the PX747-4K is the world’s

brightest 4K UHD projector with an impressive
feature set. The 3500 lumens brightness and high
contrast ratio will project an excellent image
regardless of lighting in the room. It makes itself
future proof with HDR and Rec. 2020 producing
images that should match the intended source
accurately. The projector meets CTA standards for
4K UHD certification by displaying 8.3million pixels
onto the display surface. Image degradation is
virtually eliminated with Digital Micromirror Device
(DMD) technology that has been built on all digital
DLP. It is also energy conscious as the PX747-4K will
automatically power off when no signal is detected
thereby preserving lamp life. It is further extended to
15,000 hours on an average with SuperEco mode
turning on when left on standby for 3 minutes.
Perhaps, the backlit remote control is what interests
us most making operation convenient in the dark.

CANON EOS 1500D

`TBA, www.canon.co.in

The entry-level EOS 1500D (seen here with the

EF-S18-55 III Lens) finally replaces the 2-year-old
Canon EOS 1300D. It shares the same 24MP sensor
present in several other APS-C format cameras from
the company which is about 19 times larger than the
usual 1/3.2” standard sensor found in smartphones. So
it’s perfect for novices wanting to move up from them,
the feature guide and Scene Intelligent Auto mode with
creative filters for social media ready snaps should help
make the transition easier. These include effects like
soft focus, toy camera, fisheye, miniature and black-
and-white. Full HD videos can be captured at up to
30FPS. Media transfer is made simple with the Canon
Camera Connect app available on both Android and
iOS. It can also be used to adjust settings and even
shoot images remotely.

T3 Says: EOS 1500D will serve as a good gateway

product into the world of DSLRs.

arrived much to the delight of professional
photographers and videographers we imagine. It is
the first mirrorless camera in the series to receive
five-axis in-body image stabilisation, DCI 4K video
shooting capability, and flicker reduction. Sporting a
24.3MP sensor and the company’s X-Processor Pro
image processor, there is a 3” three direction tilting
touchscreen display with a 1.04 million dot resolution
and smaller 1.28” display panel on top. It can handle
native ISO range of 200 to 12800 and maximum
burst shooting of up to 14FPS. 4K capture is done
with Rec.2020 colour gamut at a bit rate of
200Mbps while high frame rate recording of 120FPS
is supported at Full HD. Physically, an overhaul has
been done starting with more robust construction
using thicker magnesium and a larger grip that
should afford a secure handhold.

T3 Says: The additions in the X-H1 should give other

players in the segment a run for their money.

The set-up

STREAMLINE YOUR
SMART HOME WITH THE
AMAZON ECHO PLUS
Connect up your smart home gadgets
without installing additional hubs

Want to save socket space in your smart home?

Then Amazon’s latest smart speaker has the
answer: the Echo Plus. Think of it as a regular
Echo, but with a handy Zigbee smart hub built in.
Big deal, you might say, the Echo already controls
your smart home gadgets already, right? Well, not
like this.
With the Echo Plus you don’t need to install
the hubs you’d normally require if you wanted to
use devices such as Philips light bulbs; the Plus
acts as the go-between on your phone and smart
stuff instead. That means fewer boxes sitting
around, not to mention you won’t lose the various
sockets and ports they typically gobble up. And
technically, because you don’t need those hubs,
you can save money – probably enough to
purchase yourself an Echo Plus (` 14,999,
amazon.in).
At present, there are only a handful of smart
home devices that are compatible with the Echo
Plus – we’re talking TP-Link and Oakter plugs,
Philips Hue lights and Syska Lightify lights – but
considering the wealth of gadgets already
supported by the Zigbee protocol (you can see
the list at zigbee.org), it’s safe to say that the list is
going to expand in good time.
Installing compatible devices is dead easy –
more so than regular smart home devices, in fact.
Instead of having to add relevant Skills for each
new smart home device you want to add within
the Alexa app, you simply connect them up, turn
them on and the Echo Plus will automatically
detect them and add each one to the device list
– just say, “Alexa, discover my devices”. The
beauty of using the Echo Plus (or any Echo, for
that matter) to control your many smart home
devices is that because they’re all contained in
one place, it makes it easy to control them
without having to resort to opening multiple apps
just to turn something on. Naturally, this being an
Echo, you can just tell Alexa what to do, as well.
But before you rush out to place your order,
there’s a caveat: without the individual hubs in
place, you can’t control devices, like Philips Hue
bulbs, from their respective apps. So you lose
some of the granular control that you’d normally
enjoy. Once Amazon has sorted this, the Plus will
be pretty much the perfect addition to any smart
home.

When Renault Sport F1 invited us to drive one of their Formula 1
cars we were excited – and worried. Could we really do it?
Words: Dan Grabham

THE MISSION
When Renault Sport asked us to come to
France and test drive an F1 sports car, we
couldn’t quite believe it. Did they really
mean we’d be behind the wheel of a
genuine F1 monster? And did they really
mean ‘on our own’? As it turned out, yes
we could and yes they did. However, that
raised other questions, like who could
possibly take on this task (who isn’t too
tall to fit in the cockpit)?

Man vs F1

THE TRACK
Circuit Paul Ricard returns to F1
for the first time since 1990
The track Renault uses for its Renault
Sport F1 experiences – run by the
Winfield Racing School – is the Circuit
Paul Ricard. Opened in 1970, the track
was used for the French Grand Prix until
1990. Next year it will return to the F1
calendar for the first time since then.
We drove a shortened version of the
main circuit, 3.8km instead of 5.8km,
including two straights and a twisty,
difficult final section.
Winfield has an F1 legacy,
including Alain Prost and Damon Hill
graduating from its ranks. You can

How to buy the right camera

ou only have to do a quick search

Y online to get an idea of the

overwhelming choice on offer in
the current digital camera market.
With models to suit every budget and skill
level, how do you know which one is right for
you? There are several factors to bear in mind,
including what subjects you’re likely to shoot
and what features are most important to you
– think size, sensors and style. If you want a
camera to take on your travels and business
trips, for example, a compact mirrorless
camera might be the way to go. Or, if image
quality comes above everything else, a DSLR
is the obvious investment.
We’ve broken down the competing cameras
out there into a few distinct categories, in the
hope of making it easy to decide which one to
go for. In this expert guide, we’ve picked out
the best of the best in each camera type, and
explained some key terms so that you know
what to look for.
Once you’ve got your camera body, you’ll
then need to decide on a lens to attach. Lenses
are an important part of your camera setup,
but to the uninitiated, are baffling tubes of
glass with numbers and confusing acronyms
printed on the side. With this in mind, if you
don’t know which lens will give you the
creative freedom to capture the photos you
want, read our advice at the end of the guide.
Happy shopping, and happy shooting.

4K VIDEO
As well as shooting stills, most modern
cameras now double up as movie-making
powerhouses. 4K and 1080p are standard
in most high-quality mainstream digital
cameras. The 4K part can be tricky when it
comes to resolution – some record in the
Ultra HD standard 3840x2160 resolution,
while some record in the slightly wider
4096x2160 resolution (also known as
‘cinema 4K’). The latter can be slightly
harder to work with when it comes to
editing if you’re not using professional
video editing software. Either way, you’re
getting four times as many pixels as Full
HD, meaning more information, sharper
videos and greater clarity.
Almost every major camera manufacturer
has now introduced 4K video recording
somewhere in its lines, but spending more
doesn’t necessarily mean the inclusion of
this feature. Canon recently shocked the
industry by omitting 4K from its long-
awaited 6D Mark II. It might seem savvy
to future-proof your camera investment
by opting for a 4K model. However, if you
know you’re only ever going to take photos,
leave video capabilities out of the mix when
coming to a decision.

device is much more than just a regular
looking laptop. It’s a convertible notebook aka
a 2-in-1 that gives the flexibility to use it as a full-fledged
laptop or as a tablet. However you use, the result is
satisfying.
The Inspiron 13 7373 is designed with portability in
mind, which is why the notebook has a compact design
(measures 309.6x215.7x15.51mm) and is lightweight as well
(weighs 1.5kg). The solidly built notebook sports brushed
aluminium with thin bezels around the display and a
360-degree hinge that allows the notebook to be used in
four modes - laptop, tent, stand or tablet mode. Different
ports and connectivity options are at the side of the laptop.
The notebook uses a 13.3-inch Full HD touchscreen IPS
panel that is up to 300-nit brightness, making it easier to
use the device outdoors. The 2-in-1 handles most of the
tasks with ease, thanks to Intel’s 8th-gen Core processor
and up to 16GB of RAM. In our case, it was fitted with a
Core i7-8550U, 16GB of RAM, integrated Intel 620 graphics
and up to 512GB SSD for zippy performance. Connectivity-
wise, there’s a dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi to handle internet
duty along with SmartByte streaming tech that

applications and Bluetooth 4.2 for short-range

S
lim laptops are great if you’re on the move
but when it comes to gaming, most laptops
understandably, lack the hardware required
for today’s games. This is where Asus’ ROG
XG Station 2 comes into play. The ROG XG Station 2
looks like a PC chassis but this device enables users to
use desktop GPUs with their laptops. In other words,
it’s an external graphics dock that gives the laptop,
much-needed GPU boost to play high-end games, which
wouldn’t have been possible.
The ROG XG Station 2 boasts signature ROG styling
with its distinct design pattern, Aura RGB lighting and a
plasma-tube on the front to give that futuristic look. The
back hosts all the ports, which includes a power, Gigabit
LAN, four USB 3.0 and one USB 3.0 Type-B ports and
Thunderbolt 3. There’s a slider on the top of the ROG XG
Station 2 that reveals the cooling fans, PCIe slot for the
GPU and an oddly placed Start button. Why odd, you ask?
Because every time you want to use the ROG XG Station
2, you’ll have to slide to open the device and then turn it
on. We would have preferred an easily accessible external
button so that we don’t have to open it every time.
However, the ease of use is where ROG XG Station 2
shines. Connect the Thunderbolt 3 cable to a compatible
laptop and start enjoying high-end games on your thin

The new CompBook adds support for HDDs and SSDs

i
Ball entered the laptop market couple of
years back with an affordable notebook
running Windows OS. The CompBook
Premio v2.0 is not as cheap as their first
offering, but iBall is trying to justify the asking price by
adding new features.
Compared to the first CompBook’s design, the
CompBook Premio v2.0 has come a long way. The build
quality is good with a glossy gunmetal colour that
gives a premium look. The compact laptop weighs just
1.3kg that makes it a good choice for someone who is
looking for portability. There are a host of connectivity
options on either side of the laptop like a mini HDMI
1.4, two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, Ethernet port,
a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The laptop is powered by Intel’s N4200 quad-core
processor and 4GB RAM, which is good enough for
light to moderate productive work. The machine is
capable of handling few web browser tabs while
listening to music but it’s underpowered for any
process-intensive work. By default, the CompBook
Premio v2.0 comes with just 32GB of internal storage.

Bruce Springsteen

BRUCE
SPRINGSTEEN
Words: H. S. Billimoria

Born in 1949 as Bruce Frederick Springsteen,

Bruce Springsteen is more popularly known
as the ‘Boss’. A prolific singer and song
writer, he started his career with the E
Street Band. Deeply sympathetical towards
the American working class, his lyrics were
very poetic and sentimental. Springsteen is
known even today for his concerts which he
started in the 70’s and continues to perform
even today.

Springsteen’s best albums have been ‘Born

To Run’ (1975) and ‘Born In The USA’ (1984).
His worldwide record sales exceed 145
million and he has won 20 Grammy Awards.
Although, primarily a rock singer, Bruce
Springsteen has also dabbled with folk music
in the later part of his career. His ‘Greatest
hits’ album, released in 1995, gives a fair
indication of Springsteen’s talent.
