Johnstone was a Poet and Extraction Dentist in Bristol from 1928 to 1938. AND THE FOREMAN SAID NOT GUILTY. In spite of the brilliant assault of the State By characters mighty and deep in debate, By spell-binding orators, famous and wise, ‘That good Vermont money so freely supplies— The Foreman said, “Not Guilty Some voters of Addison County may drink, But verily most of the gentlemen think; I would not discriminate, (women as well), And certainly everyone wanted to yell— When the Foreman said, “Not Guilty”. The gentleman tried was a Mister Choquet, Whose able attorney was James Donoway, Who dared to declare that it wasn’t a sin To wash a man’s hide for the good of his skin— And the Foreman said, “Not Guilty”. He further declared that it wasn’t a crime To recommend. carrots. at. any old time, “Or pick up a dollar found rolling down hill Enroute to the office of .Dr. McQuill. And the Foreman said, “Not Guilty”. The charge to the jury was faithful and fair, And struck me as being entirely square: The folks of the State are protected, I'm sure, As long as the medical doctors endure— And the Foreman said, “Not v's all for the good of the people, I say. That doctors are toiling all night and all day; When something much better than drugs shall be found, ‘Will doctors endorse it and pass it around?— And the Foreman said, “Not Guil Should God in His mercy an angel command To banish all sickness away from the land, Don't tell me a doctor would enter a plot ‘To have the good messenger instantly sho:— . And the Foreman said, “Not Guilty”. Well, let us be friends as we follow Life's path, And let any person who will take a bath, And if he declares it is doing him good, Make room for the folks of the whole neighborhood— And the Foreman said. “Not Guilty”. Let spite and all jealousy sink in the dust, “ Be always supporting the Fair and the Just, And if you're not, able to help any man— Den't try to misrepresent OTHERS who CAN. And the Foreman said, “Not Guilty”. ERNEST FENWICK JOHNSTONE, LL.M. December 23, 1931
