Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

This chapter is divided into five parts (1) Background of the study, (2) Statement
of the problem, (3) Significance of the study, (4) Definition of terms, (5) Delimitation of
the study.
Part one, Background of the study, contains the rationale for the choice of the
problems.
Part two, Statement of the problem, articulate the problems that the study hopes
to answer.
Part three, Significance of the study will be of benefit to all concerned and how it
will contribute to the body knowledge as a whole.
Part four, definition of terms, give both conceptual and operational definition of
all important terms used in the research.
Part five, Delimitation of the study, defines the parameters and limits of the
study.

Background of the study

Practical Research 2 also known as quantitative research approach designs and
examines social phenomena through quantifiable evidence, and often relies on
statistical analysis of many causes to create valid and reliable general claims. Practical
Research 2 for Senior High School aims to acquaint students with the concepts,
principles, themes, methods, and rudiments of research. It guides students, through a
step by- step process, in writing the research proposal and conducting quantitative
research.
Attitude as a concept is concerned with an individual’s way of thinking, acting
and behaving. It has very serious implications for the learner, the teacher, the
immediate social group with which the individual learner relates and the entire school
system. Attitudes are formed as a result of some kind of learning experiences students
go through. This is mimicry which also has a part to play in teaching and learning
situation. In this respect, the learner draws from his teacher’s disposition to form his
own attitude, which may like affect his learning outcomes (Yara, 2009)
Attitude is a factor that affects our performance and due interest to learn in
class. Learning is a process of acquiring fresh insights, information, and ideas. Allows us
to discover certain things, methods and among others. The contribution of our feelings
greatly affects the whole system of learning.
This investigation is anchored on the concept of cognitivism theory of learning.
According to Marriner David Merill (1937), cognitivism focuses on the inner mental
activities - opening the “black box” of the human mind is valuable and necessary to
understanding how people learn. Mental processes such as thinking, memory, knowing
and problem – solving need to be explored. Knowledge can be seen as schema or
symbolic mental constructions. The learner is viewed as an informational processor (like
a computer)

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to explore the Attitude of Grade 12 Students toward learning
the Practical Research 2. Furthermore, this study intends to answer the following
questions:
1. What are the reasons why students find studying practical research 2
difficult?
2. Which of the activities and requirements in practical research 2 are not easy
to answer and comply?
3. How can the teacher extend help to improve students’ performance in this
subject?

Significance of the Study

The result of the inquiry are very important to all those who could learn from
the experiences of this rural; institutions of learning. The results of this study would be
able to identify interventions that the teacher can do for the students to improve their
learning process.
The students will benefit most especially with the results of this study they will
become aware because they will become aware of their difficulties and fins ways to
improve their performance.
The parents will get benefit as well through the results of this study. They may
be given the idea on how to help and understand their children much better.

Definition of Terms
Attitude - a feeling or opinion about something or someone, or a way of
behaving.
In this study, attitude is the way our participants give their feeling or opinion
about practical research 2.
Practical research - means actual doing or using of something rather than
theories and ideas. It involves inquiry methods and immersion activities in order to
achieve the correct information.
In this study, practical research 2 is the subject enrolled in by the participants
which is offered in senior High School for the Grade 12 particularly in the first semester.
Requirement - a thing that is needed or wanted.

The requirement in this study is the thing that is needed or wanted by the
teacher in practical research 2, on a specified duration of time.
Comply - act in accordance with a wish or command.
In this study, same definition is considered.

Scope and Delimitation of the study

This study aimed to find out what are the difficulties of Grade 12 students in
their practical research 2 subjects. The data collected through a semi – structured
interviews and limited to only three grade 12 students. They were observed on the
basis on how they were able to answer the question and identify the difficulties in their
activities. This study was conducted in Rufino G. Hechanova memorial national high
School.

Chapter II
Review of Related Literature

This chapter contains the following related literature: (1) Research Skills, (2)
Presentation Skills, (3) Analyzing Skills, (4) Leadership Skills

Research Skills
The ability to search for, locate, extract, organize, evaluate and use or present
information that is relevant to a particular topic. Academic research is a specific type of
research: a process of detailed and methodical investigation into some area of study. It
involves intensive search, investigation, and critical analysis, usually in response to a
specific research question or hypothesis. It also usually involves a lot of reading.

Presentation Skills
Presenting information clearly and effectively is a key skill to get your message or
opinion across and, today, presentation skills are required in almost every field.

Whether you are a student, administrator or executive, if you wish to start up your own
business, apply for a grant or stand for an elected position, you may very well be asked
to make a presentation. This can be a very daunting prospect. Our guide is designed to
help.

Analyzing Skills
The ability to collect, gather, visualize and analyze information in details. They include
also the ability to see a problem or situation from different points of view.

Leadership Skills
The strengths and abilities individuals demonstrate that help the oversee processes,
guide initiatives and steer their employees toward the achievement of goals.

Chapter III
Research Design and Methodology

This chapter contains the following parts (1) Research Design, (2) The Respondent, (3)
Data Gathering Instruments, (4) Data Gathering Procedure.

Research Design
This study employed the case study research design. According to Yin (2014),
case studies, a definitive guide on how to design more rigorous and methodologically
sound case studies that will stand up to questions of validity and reliability. Importantly,
Yin manages to link theory and practice by presenting the breadth of case study
research and its historical significance at a practical level. It is Yin’s view that, when
“the process has been given careful attention, the potential result is the production of a
high-quality case study”.

The Respondent
The researcher purposively selected the Rufino G. Hechanova Memorial National
High School, Grade 12 Students as the respondents of this study. A survey was
conducted to find out which the students have difficulties on the Practical Research 2
subject.
The identified students were asked a personal dialogue to give their consent to
be participants of the study. These identified participants were found appropriate who
may be able to provide data through a semi – structured in – depth interview for a
deeper understanding of what are the attitudes of a Grade 12 Students toward Learning
the Practical Research 2.

Data Gathering Instruments

The researcher developed an Interview Schedule as the main research
instrument of this case study. This was done by framing a list of well – phrased
questions, translated to local dialect which was answered by the participants in their
own thinking knowledge to answer our question.

Data Gathering Procedure

After preliminary activities such as developing, pre testing and refinements of
research instrument, the researches made necessary communications to proper
authorities asking permission/approval to conduct the case study. Purposive sampling
was used to identify the participants. When informed consent from the participants has
been obtained, data gathering procedure followed.
The identified students were given a validated interview questions for them to
answer. For more in – depth the analysis of the gathered date, the researcher
conducted semi – structured interviews with the participants.
