Helpful Tips:

1. Wash your hands for 20 seconds


with warm water and soap before
and after preparing fresh produce.
2. Wash produce BEFORE you peel
it, so dirt and bacteria aren’t
transferred from the knife onto the
fruit or vegetable.
3. Produce with a lot of nooks and
crannies like cauliflower, broccoli or
lettuce should be soaked for 1 to 2
minutes in cold clean water
4. Dry product with a clean cloth or
paper towel to further reduce
bacteria that may be present.

WASHING FRUITS AND VEGETABLES


Why? Fruits and Vegetables are often eaten raw, and are a potential sources of food born illness
When? According to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), you should wash raw fruits and
vegetables very well before you peel, cut, eat or cook with them.
With? Why use distilled water? Because distilled or bottled water has been filtered and purified to
remove contaminants. NOTE: You can also used very clean cold tap water to clean produce instead
of distilled water.
