NEEDLES
A pair each 6.50mm (US 10½), (UK 3) and
5.00mm (US 8), (UK 6) Knitting Needles or
sizes that give correct tension/gauge.
MATERIALS
A Yarn Needle; 2 Buttons.
TENSION/GAUGE
13 sts and 18 rows to 10 cms/4 ins
over stocking st, using 6.50mm (US
10½), (UK 3) Knitting Needles and
MC; AND 8 sts to 10 cms/4 ins in width
over garter st, using 5.00mm (US 8),
(UK 6) Knitting Needles and CC (see
special notes). Note - Correct tension/
gauge is essential for a successful
handknit.

SPECIAL NOTES FOR CC YARN
We recommend that you do not pull the
yarn from the centre of the ball - unwind
it from the outside and it will be easier to
work with. To join this yarn, just overlap the
two yarns by about 10 cms/4 ins and knit
them both for 2 to 3 stitches.
Casting on: Unfold the tape and find the
open edge of the yarn (not the bound/
selvedge edge). You will see large eyelets
in the tape. You will be using the eyelets
along the open edge to knit into and as
your knitting yarn. See the image showing
correct eyelets to knit into.
To cast on, you simply insert the needle
into an eyelet approximately 3 cms/1 in
from the end of your yarn to create the first
stitch. To create the next stitch, insert the
needle front to back into the next eyelet
along the edge of the tape, skipping the
half eyelet in between. Repeat this process
to cast on each stitch.
Knitting: Insert your right needle into
the stitch as if to knit on RS. Unfold the
tape and find the open edge. Use the next
eyelet along the open edge as your knitting
yarn and complete your stitch.
Casting off: Knit two stitches in the above
manner. Lift the first stitch over the second
and off the needle. Work in this way across
the stitches until one remains. Using a
yarn needle thread part of the tape though
the last stitch and tighten to bind off.
CREATE - Back
Using 6.50mm (US 10½), (UK 3) Needles
and MC, cast on 62 (66-74) sts.
1st row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from *
to end.
2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures
4 cms/2 ins from beg, ending with a 2nd
row.
Work in stocking st until work measures 34
cms/13 ins from beg, ending with a purl
row.
Shape raglan armholes - Cast/bind off 2
sts at beg of next 2 rows = 58 (62-70) sts.
Dec one st at each end of next row, then in
every foll alt row until 22 (24-26) sts rem.
Cast/bind off loosely.
Left Front
Using 6.50mm (US 10½), (UK 3) Needles
and MC, cast on 31 (35-39) sts.
1st row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to
last st, K1.

2nd row - P3, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 4
cms/2 ins from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Next row - Knit to last 5 sts, P2, K3.
Next row - P3, K2, purl to end.
Rep last 2 rows until work measures same
as Back to beg of raglan armhole shaping,
working last row on WS.
Shape raglan - Keeping rib sts at front
edge correct, cast/bind off 2 sts at beg of
next row = 29 (33-37) sts.
Dec one st at raglan edge in every foll alt
row until 16 (20-22) sts rem.
Shape neck - Next row (WS) - Cast/bind
off 5 (6-7) sts, purl to end = 11 (14-15)
sts.
Dec one st at raglan edge in next row, then
in every foll alt row 4 (5-6) times, at the
same time dec one st at neck edge in next
row, then in every foll alt row 3 (5-5) times
= 2 sts.
Next row - P2, turn, K2tog. Fasten off.
Right Front
Using 6.50mm (US 10½), (UK 3) Needles
and MC, cast on 31 (35-39) sts.
1st row (RS) - K3, * P2, K2, rep from * to
end.
2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to last
st, P1.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 4
cms/2 ins from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Next row - K3, P2, knit to end.
Next row - Purl to last 5 sts, K2, P3.
Rep last 2 rows until work measures same
as Back to beg of raglan armhole shaping,
working last row on WS.
Work 1 row.
Shape raglan - Keeping rib sts at front
edge correct, cast/bind off 2 sts at beg of
next row = 29 (33-37) sts.
Dec one st at raglan edge in next row, then
in every foll alt row until 17 (21-23) sts
rem.
Shape neck - Next row (RS) - Cast/bind
off 5 (6-7) sts, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog =
11 (14-15) sts.
Dec one st at raglan edge in every foll alt
row 5 (6-7) times, at the same time dec
one st at neck edge in every foll alt row 4
(6-6) times = 2 sts.
Next row - P2, turn, K2tog. Fasten off.
Sleeve (make 2)
Using 5.50mm (US 8), (UK 6) Needles and
CC, cast on 22 (24-26) sts (see special
notes).
Knit in garter st (see special notes) at the
same time, dec one st at each end of every
foll alt row until work measures same as
raglan armhole on Back and Fronts [approx
21 (22-23) cms/8 (8½-9) ins from beg.
Cast/bind off (see special notes) rem sts.
Collar
Using yarn needle, mattress st seam and
MC, join raglan seams, noting that tops of
sleeves form part of neckline.
Using 6.50mm (US 10½), (UK 3) Needles
and MC, cast on 16 sts.
1st row (RS) - K3, * P2, K2, rep from * to
last st, K1.
2nd row - P3, * K2, P2, rep from * to last
st, P1.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows once more.
5th row - K3, cast/bind off 2 sts, K2
(includes st already on needle), P2, K2,
cast/bind off 2 sts, K3 (includes st already
on needle).
6th row - P3, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn,
P2, K2, P2, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, P3 =
2 buttonholes.
Cont in rib without further buttonholes
until collar fits (slightly stretched) evenly
around neckline, beg and ending at front
edges and then working an extra 3.5
cms/1½ ins, ending with a 2nd row. Cast/
bind off.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn
in ends.
Using yarn needle, mattress st seam and
MC, sew side edge of collar to neck edge
leaving approx 3.5 cms/1½ ins free for
button closure at right front edge. Sew on
buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
Join side seams.
Knit into eyelets marked with stars
