ORTHOPHOS® 3 Ceph for tele-radiography.
For this unit we have provided you with a set of techni-
cal literature: Operating Instructions, Installation
Instructions, Installation Report / Warranty Passport,
Wiring References, Pre-Installation, Dimensions,
Technical Data.
Keep this literature for quick and easy reference.
This document is the “Cephalometry” supplement.
Please take the“ORTHOPHOS 3 Operating
Instructions” into account also, as well as the
Warnings and Safety Notes included therein.

1 Technical Description
1.1 Technical Data
Exposure times tele-exposure: 0,1 – 4,00s
Automatic Exposure Blockage: The duration of the exposure blockage (cool-off period)
depends on the kV/mA step set and the actually triggered
radiation time. Depending on the tube load, pause times up
to 200s are set automatically.
Example: For tele-exposure with exposure data 78kV/10mA
and exposure time 0.8s a cool-down time of 8s is observed.
Source - Image receptor distance: Ceph 1660mm

Ceph 18cm x 24cm (7" x 10")

ORTHOPHOS 3 Ceph has been inspected by the


VDE Testing and Certification Institute for compli-
ance with EN 60601-1, EN 60601-2-28 and EN
60601-1-3 and has been found to comply with these
regulations.

This product is provided with a CE marking in
accordance with the regulations stated in the Directive
93/42/EEC of June 14, 1993 concerning medical

Reproducibility of Tele-Exposures
After positioning the patient, note the values of the
readings on the cephalometer scales to assure
examination reproducibility.

Enlargement of Lateral Projections


With this technique a metal scale (25) integrated into the
22 23 24 25 26 27 nose support appears on the radiograph.
Using this scale it is possible to accurately measure the
enlargement ratio in the central plane.

3 Accessories
3.1 Accessories for Cephalometer
Protective caps U for ear olives can be sterilized. *.
Sterilize only in an autoclave at 135°C, 2.1bar
(275°F, 29.8PSI).
Ear olive holders W may be disinfected with petroleum
ether.
We recommend that you attach hygienic protective
covers before each exposure.

4 Operation
4.1 Preparing the Tele-Exposure

Loading the Film Cassette


Treat film cassette and intensifying screens with care to
avoid scratching screen or denting the cassette housing.
Opening the cassette:
Push locks A in direction of arrow.
Lift cover with tab B. Place film in cassette.
Closing the cassette:
Press cover down evenly until it locks into place.

1. Switching the Unit ON


The unit adjusts itself automatically.
2. Selecting the Ceph Function
by adjusting diaphragm No. 3 or 4.
3. No. 3, asymmetrical A, for lateral projection, or
No. 4, symmetrical S, for a.p., p.a. and carpus
exposures.
Adjust diaphragm:
by pressing locking button and turning diaphragm wheel
up to stop. The diaphragm number appears in the upper
right corner of the diaphragm.

2. The C display above s on the Multitimer illuminates. The


kV/mA and s exposure parameters of the last
tele-exposure taken appear.
1. 4. The LED above the R key on the Multitimer blinks.
3. Panorama Cassette Holder
Swing holder out of x-ray path (or remove image
receptor from the holder for panoramic radiographs).
Remove bite block. Close temple supports fully.
4. Move X-Ray Tube

ATTENTION

Preparing the Cephalometer


1. Nose rest
Hold at the top front, pull out up to stop and swing
away to the side.

The cephalometer can be rotated.
The rotational apparatus locks in the 0°, 45° (turning to
the right) and 90° position.

• Have the patient remove all metallic objects, such
as glasses and jewelry, from the head and neck
regions. Should the patient have removable
dentures, have him take them out.
• Ask patient to stand or sit under cephalometer.
• Press buttons ↑ or ↓ on unit to adjust cephalometer
until both ear olives are at same height as external
auditory canals.

• Introduce ear olives into external auditory canals.


Hold at top of holders.
• Adjust the head inclination in accordance with the
Frankfurt Horizontal line FH.

• Slightly loosen retention screw (20) of nose support.


• Pull down nose support.

• Adjust nose support to same height as root of nose
and press to root of nose.
20 Hold nose support at the marking on top front (70
on scale).
• Retighten retention screw.

i NOTE
The nose support is not required for symmetric
exposures.

Interrupting an Exposure
If the exposure key is released prematurely, exposure is
interrupted.

5 Programming the Tele-Exposure


5.1 Programming Procedure
The four patient symbol keys are preprogrammed with
kV/mA and s values.
The keys can be freely programmed with other values.
See „Program Values – Tele-Radiography” on page 17.

1. Adjust diaphragm 3 or 4 for ceph function. The C dis-


play above s on the Multitimer illuminates.
1. Set desired kV and s values with – + keys.
2. Press memory programming key.
The LED above the programming key blinks.
3. Press the appropriate patient symbol key.
The appropriate LED lights up.
1. The LED goes out when the values have been stored.
Programming is complete.
