6. Course Overview:
The subject focuses on studying the role of the public sector in general and the
role of public finance in particular in creating acompetitive market and overcoming
the defects of the market; thereby allocate and use the economy resources to create
economic efficiency, while ensuring equality in society. Key contents include:
efficiency and equity, externalities, public goods and public spending, cost – benefit
analysis of the project and the impact of taxes on the economy.

7. Course Objectives:

OBJ1 Understand the basics of the public sector and public finance about
1 efficiency and equity, externalities, public goods, public spending, cost
– benefit analysis and the impact of taxes on the economy.
OBJ2 Have the basis knowledge to understand the allocation of resources,
2 public decisions and policy choices of the government spending.
OBJ3 Have the knowledge and techniques of cost – benefit analysis.

OBJ4 Know how to analyse the impact of different taxes on the economy and
4 the method of taxation in order to achieve economic efficiency.
OBJ5 Know how to apply the theoretical models and tools used by
5 government to intervene the economy.
OBJ6 Know how to debate about government policies that aim to maintain
6 efficiency and equity.
