CREEPING OR SLIPPING?
The photograph above shows chalk marks across the six hoist
ropes. A small white mark was placed on the left side of the sheave.
The car was run round trip from bottom terminal. On return to botttom
the small sheave marking was about 2" below and would be considered
normal rope movement on this 33 floor rise.

The photograph above shows the small white mark on the left side
of the sheave. It is about 4" below the line showing floor level at the
bottom landing. This is no longer normal; it is the beginning of rope
slippage.
The photograph above shows a small white mark on the right side of
the sheave. It is about 7" below the line showing floor level at the
Traffic Counter
bottom. Believe it or not this machine had 18" of slippage on one
round trip. That second mark on the right (down at the bottom) is the
original slippage point. A few hours of rope cleaning brought the
slippage down to the 7 inches mentioned above. Continued cleaning
brought the rope movement down to 3". Any further lubrication
should be done with caution; as it may cause reoccurrence of
slippage. Wire rope cleaning should be continued for at last 2 to 3
weeks and ropes checked for slippage at completion.
