Current Issues:

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21, 2018 – Truancy recorded the highest record in school student

discipline misconduct throughout the year 2017. Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid

said it covered 1.4 per cent with 67,053 students from nearly five million primary and secondary

students across the country. "One of the elements we are very sad is that some of these places we

recognize as 'hotspots' (hot spots), schools with high potential discipline incidents." In this country,

there are some places that has potential to happen.

"We have a good cooperation with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in the context of

monitoring or moderation and does not mean the presence of the police they will arrest students."

Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG), police and school management can sit in talks to take

"he said in response to a question by the Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PAS-Rantau Panjang)

questioning the action of the KPM on misconduct. discipline and crime involve students.

There are factors that caused this issue such as school environment, personality of teachers, peers,

family and students’ attitude towards school. The highest correlation was found between teachers’

teaching and teachers’ personality. The lowest correlation was found between administration of

school and family.

For example, A very popular issue regarding school teacher factors is a form two student

attempted to commit suicide after being accused of stealing her teacher's iPhone on January 26,

2018. The 14-year-old, from a school in Nibong Tebal, was apparently summoned by four

teachers at the school on Wednesday and quizzed over the disappearance of one of the teachers'

mobile phones. Despite her repeated denials, one of the teachers reportedly struck the student for

failing to own up to the theft. The teacher and her husband, who is also a teacher but from
another school, allegedly threatened to lodge a police report on the matter. The girl however,

maintained her innocence and her father, who was told about the case later, was adamant that she

did not do it. Overcome with emotion, the girl later tried to hang herself in her home. However,

she was saved by her father. This is very heartbreaking for the community because the teacher

did not investigate first before accusing the student. This affects other students not to establish

close relationships with teachers and can lead to distrust of educators.

Based on the issues, it is very closely related to the study in Monograf Senario pelajar Ponteng

Sekolah:Suatu Analisis Statistikal. This is because we can identify the problem that caused the

issue based on the research that has been made. In addition, we can compare the statistics of

skipping students found in the study with truancy statistics in 2017 which is 1.4 percent equivalent

to 67.053 students. In addition, we can use the proposed improvements in the Monograph to

address the issue. Among the proposed improvements in the Monograph are the KPMs can use a

charity system in society to punish students who receive a warning letter for charity work. This

measure can punish students in addition to utilizing the good of the community. Additionally,

school administration should be given more power to impose penalties on skipping students to use

more effective types of punishment. Furthermore, the Government needs to foster awareness

among the public to address the increasingly tremendous problem of schools in our country. In

addition, the police should also be given a lot of power and act decisively in capturing trainees.

Lastly, the MOE needs multi-party cooperation, teachers, school administrators, parents,

communities, and authorities to address the truancy of students so that the government's intention

to transform the quality of education to a higher level.
