EXT. CAFE - DAY
July, 1978.
ALICE LONGBOTTOM (23) sits at a table under a large parasol,
looking at a menu. She’s wearing a red summer dress, with a
large pair of sunglasses and shoes that match her dress.
SELWYN (25), wearing a plain, grey suit with no tie,
approaches her.
SELWYN
I hear that the afternoon tea here
is delightful.
Alice stands quickly.
ALICE
Yes, would you care to join me?
SELWYN
Delighted.
Alice forces a smile.
ALICE
Excellent.
They both sit.
SELWYN
I fear the weather may take a turn
for the worse.
ALICE
We won’t be here long.
SELWYN
I certainly hope not.
ALICE
I’m sure that you are keen to move
on.
SELWYN
When one is in a position, such as
ours, one must make allowances.
ALICE
True. I’m sure your ‘co-workers’
find this far more disagreeable
than-
2.

SELWYN
Don’t play for time and do not play
games with me. Time is short and we
need to move quickly.
ALICE
You mean that you need to move
quickly.
SELWYN
You can hardly afford to pass up my
information.
ALICE
Maybe not. But then again, it could
be entirely worthless.
SELWYN
I need guarantees.
ALICE
Then you’re a fucking idiot. No one
can give you those.
Beat.
SELWYN
What can you do for me?
ALICE
We can try to keep you safe. We
will try. You will work for us.
That’s the only guarantee I can
give.
SELWYN
It’s not enough.
ALICE
You’re more than welcome to crawl
back to your master.
A WAITER (50s) approaches them.
WAITER
What can I get for you both?
ALICE
Just two cups of tea, please.
SELWYN
You’re sure? No food?
3.

ALICE
(To waiter)
Just the tea.
The waiter nods and walks away.
ALICE (CONT’D)
As you said - time is short.
Beat.
Selwyn looks around nervously. Alice notices.
SELWYN
I was hoping that I would be able
to meet with your superior.
ALICE
You get me instead. Your
information could be worthless. For
someone keen to give up sensitive
information, you aren’t being
particularly forthcoming so far.
SELWYN
Because I know the value of my
information - and my life. And I
need assurances.
ALICE
I see.
The waiter has returned with two cups of tea. Alice notices
that Selwyn is starting to sweat, though they are sat in the
shade.
ALICE (CONT’D)
(Slowly)
I think we can sort something out.
Come to us, and, provided we win
the war and you’re still alive, we
can give you a comfortable life -
after questioning.
She notices that the street around her is very largely empty.
SELWYN
That will have to do. They could
find us at any moment.
He whispers across the table to her. Alice tries her best to
hide her emotions. Selwyn sits back in his chair.
4.

SELWYN (CONT’D)
So? Is the information good?
ALICE
(visibly shaken)
I’ll have to talk to my superiors.
I’ll need to take you somewhere
safe.
Selwyn nods.
She spots a MAN (40) looking at her from another table and
sees the handle of his wand pocking out from his jacket
pocket.
ALICE (CONT’D)
If you would excuse me for a
moment.
She stands.
SELWYN
Where are you going?
ALICE
Just to the toilet, it’s not-
SELWYN
(Desperate)
Don’t leave m-
The Man leaps up and fires a bolt of magic at Selwyn. Alice
dives out of the way as Selwyn falls to the ground.
ALICE
(Shouting)
Selwyn!
No response.
Alice returns fire and begins to duel with the Man. RODOLPHUS
(late 20s) and RABASTAN (mid 20s) burst out of a shop door
opposite the cafe and begin firing their own spells.
Alice duels all three men by herself. The Man is blasted back
into the cafe window, and Alice sends the shards of glass
flying at Rodolphus and Rabastan.
They both dive for cover. When they stand up, Alice has
disappeared and Selwyn lies on the floor, blood pouring from
a wound in his neck.
5.

INT. MARQUEE TENT - DAY

JAMES POTTER (18) stands opposite LILY EVANS (18). He is
dressed in a black wedding suit and she is dressed in a
traditional white wedding dress.
They smile at one another.
LILY
I do.
They continue to smile as they kiss one another.
SIRIUS BLACK (19) cheers.
SIRIUS
Woo! Yeah! Well done, mate!
Lily shoots him a look as James laughs.

INT. MARQUEE TENT - NIGHT

Lily and James dance together whilst Sirius and REMUS (18)
sit at a table and watch.
REMUS
Nice to forget about everything
that’s happening.
SIRIUS
I’m glad that they can at least.
REMUS
Have you met Lily’s parents?
SIRIUS
I have. I love her mother. You can
see where she gets her-
REMUS
Oh not again.
SIRIUS
James agrees.
REMUS
James always agrees with you and
he’s just married her daughter, so
of course he thinks that.
SIRIUS
I’ll have to see about arranging an
accident for Lily’s poor father.
6.

Remus shakes his head.

SIRIUS (CONT’D)
Oh, Remus - don’t be such a prude.
I am joking.
REMUS
Clearly.
SIRIUS
I’ll make it up to you later if you
want.
REMUS
You’re welcome to - no, don’t - be
attracted to whomever you want. I
couldn’t care less.
SIRIUS
Look, I’m not - you know I don’t
mean it.
REMUS
I should hope not - Lily would kill
you if she heard you talking about
her father and mother like that.
SIRIUS
No, I’m sure that she’d find it
amusing.
PETER (18) joins them at the table.
PETER
Who would find what amusing?
SIRIUS
Oh, just talking about Lily’s
mother.
PETER
Remus, you’re not going to let him
do that, are you?
REMUS
Oh piss off.
Remus stands up and leaves the table.
PETER
What did you say to him?
SIRIUS
He knows I’m joking.
7.

PETER
He gets jealous easily, you
shouldn’t-
SIRIUS
Yes, alright, I don’t need you to
start either.
PETER
James would say the same thing.
He’d back me up.
SIRIUS
I’m going to go talk to him.
PETER
Probably better to let him calm
down first.
SIRIUS
Oh, he’s fine. I was just joking.
PETER
Oh, okay.
SIRIUS
What?
PETER
It’s nothing.
Sirius shoots him a look.
PETER (CONT’D)
James said that you two have been-
SIRIUS
Oh what does James know about it?
PETER
I’m just saying what he said.
SIRIUS
Of course you are.
PETER
You’re both at each other’s throats
at the minute.
SIRIUS
James said that?
PETER
Yes.
8.

SIRIUS
Huh.
PETER
Don’t shoot the messenger.
SIRIUS
We’re fine. And it’s none of your
business.
PETER
I just said-
FRANK (23) hurries into the marquee looking worried. Sirius
sees him first and stands to greet him.
Frank sees that Lily and James are still dancing and tries to
hide his panic as he finds Sirius in the room.
FRANK
Sirius.
SIRIUS
What’s happened?
Frank grips Sirius’ arm as Sirius helps him to the table.
SIRIUS (CONT’D)
Frank, what is it?
FRANK
I didn’t want to come here and ruin
the night for everyone.
SIRIUS
You’re not ruining anything.
Whatever it is, Peter, Remus and I
will help.
FRANK
No. He’s calling everyone in. I was
sent to do it discreetly.
SIRIUS
Wait, right now? But what about-
FRANK
They knew it could be interrupted
at any time.
SIRIUS
Well, we got through the vast
majority of the day.
9.

FRANK
That was Albus’ reasoning.
SIRIUS
Fair enough. I’ll go talk-
JAMES
Frank! I thought you were on a job.
He moves to embrace him but sees the look on his, Sirius’ and
Peter’s faces.
JAMES (CONT’D)
Okay. Called in?
Frank nods.
JAMES (CONT’D)
Alright. Okay.

INT. ORDER HEADQUARTERS, MEETING ROOM - NIGHT

ALASTOR MOODY (mid-40s), relatively handsome looking, stands
at the head of a large table. Around it sit James, Lily,
Peter, Remus, Sirius and Frank.
ALASTOR
We need to find her, and quick.
Every second we waste, the Death
Eaters get closer to finding her
first.
JAMES
Where wouldn’t she come back?
REMUS
Likely she believes that after
exposing herself as she did, she
could cause more harm to the Order
than good.
LILY
She’s already a well known auror,
that doesn’t make sense.
ALASTOR
Frank, any thoughts?
FRANK
No.
10.

ALASTOR
Any safe houses, hiding spots,
meaningful places she could have
gone to ground?
FRANK
I honestly don’t know. If she does,
she never told me.
ALASTOR
Hm. Smart and an inconvenience.
JAMES
There must be more to it than that.
We won’t know for certain until we
find her. And find out why she’s
chosen to go to ground.
ALASTOR
Let’s move then.
Everyone stands as Alastor leaves the room quickly.
JAMES
Frank, we’re going to need to know
everything about you and Alice. We
need to find her. I’ll come with
you, see if we can’t find anything
back at your home that will give us
a clue as to where she is.
FRANK
I’ll do it myself.
JAMES
I want to help.
FRANK
It’s my home. Surely Alastor and
Albus have somewhere else for you
to be looking?
LILY
I know you’re worried-
FRANK
It’s fine Lily. I’m fine.
He disapparates in front of them.
LILY
We need to let him get on with it.
She’s his wife.
11.

JAMES
Mm.
LILY
Just imagine if it was me instead
of her.
JAMES
Right.
SIRIUS
Sorry that you two had to miss your
wedding night.
JAMES
We haven’t missed anything yet.
LILY
We have work to do.
JAMES
We’ll need to sleep eventually.
Lily smiles.
LILY
Or not, as the case may be.
SIRIUS
What’re you smiling at, Peter?
Dirty git.
PETER
I wasn’t, I was just-
SIRIUS
Come on, we’re going to look at the
cafe, see if we can’t find
anything.
JAMES
That seems more than a little
dangerous.
SIRIUS
It’ll be fine. We’ll keep hidden
and keep our distance.
JAMES
Even so-
PETER
I’ll take care of him.
12.

JAMES
Uh huh. Sirius, take Remus with you
too?
REMUS
James, I didn’t realise that you
were my superior.
JAMES
I- I wasn’t- you know what I mean!
REMUS
Peter is a more accomplished
duelist than you realise.
JAMES
I really don’t think-
SIRIUS
We can’t stand around all night.
Let’s go.
REMUS
Alright.
The three disparate also.
JAMES
Do you think they’ll find anything?
LILY
No. The death eaters will have been
there already and cleaned up their
mess.
JAMES
It we can’t find her, how could
they? That’s got to be worth
something, right?
LILY
Maybe.
JAMES
We’ll sort this out. We’ll find out
why.
LILY
Do you think we made a mistake
joining the order?
JAMES
No, of course not!
13.

LILY
James, we could die.
JAMES
That’s been a constant fear for us
for years. I’m not afraid anymore.
LILY
Well I am. I’m afraid that you’ll
die.
JAMES
Lily, I’m not going to die.
LILY
That’s your arrogance speaking.
JAMES
I promise you.
LILY
James, come on. You can’t promise
that.
JAMES
Yes I can.
Lily shakes her head. She kisses James.

INT. FRANK’S HOME, LIVING ROOM - DAY

Frank walks into his home. It’s dark and empty. He turns on
the lights and looks around. Nothing.
He sits down and stares at the floor, feeling hopeless.

INT. MINISTRY OF MAGIC ENTRANCE - DAY

October, 1978.
ALBUS DUMBLEDORE (looks 70+) strides confidently out of a
fireplace, one of a great many lining a huge hall.
Politicians and visitors are too busy going about their
business to notice him, though a few do peer over to him as
he walks past. A few step out of his way as he strides on
ahead.
14.

INT. MILLICENT’S OFFICE - DAY

Albus sits in a comfortable leather chair opposite MILLICENT
BAGNOLD (40s), sitting in a similar chair on the other side
of a large desk.
She stands as she begins to talk.
MILLICENT
Thank you for coming so promptly.
Albus.
ALBUS
Not at all, minister.
MILLICENT
Were you given the usual
congratulations on the way over?
ALBUS
Yes, though a few friends were all
cheering me on to pass on the
invitation again. Some sort of
expectation of defiance, on my
part.
MILLICENT
For what it’s worth, you would make
an incredible Minister for Magic.
ALBUS
Perhaps. But I... do not wish to
be.
MILLICENT
I’ve taken a great risk, I hope you
understand.
ALBUS
I do, my apologies. It was rather
your idea.
MILLICENT
I like to think it doesn’t show
weakness on my part, but
organisation, planning. A successor
in the interim if I do happen to
die should the Death Eaters ever be
so bold as to attack the ministry
directly.
ALBUS
I’m sure you’ll find a way to spin
it to the public.
15.

MILLICENT
Mm.
Pause.
MILLICENT (CONT’D)
Albus, I won’t lie, the situation
is bleak.
ALBUS
I know.
MILLICENT
(Ignoring him)
How do we beat him? After all these
years, do you even have an answer?
Your order has been as ineffective
as the aur-
ALBUS
With respect, we have not been
ineffective-

MILLICENT ALBUS (CONT'D)

Yes you have! You have- No we have not- we have not
and I shall tell you why.
ALBUS (CONT’D)
We have gathered vital intelligence
and have helped combat Voldemort’s
army on multiple fronts; we have
disrupted his recruitment of many
powerful allies. We have recruited
new, powerful witches and wizards
into our ranks, who do good work-
MILLICENT
And yet he continues to take lives!
ALBUS
Yes. What would you like me to say?
What would you like to hear?
MILLICENT
Albus, you are not listening.
ALBUS
(Ignoring her)
I am listening. We know as much as
you know. We are doing as much as
we can.
16.

MILLICENT
You’re out of time. You need more
people and you need to become an
official arm of this government.
ALBUS
More people would endanger the
organisation-
MILLICENT
Albus, there is collateral to also
consider! That entire bloody mess,
with Alice.
ALBUS
Losing our independence would mean
compromising us. You know just as
well as I that Voldemort has people
within the ministry.
MILLICENT
(Sighs)
I could work with you to ensure
safeguards.
ALBUS
It won’t be enough.
Beat.
MILLICENT
How do we stop this?
ALBUS
You know how.
MILLICENT
And how do we find him and kill
him?
ALBUS
There are very few who could
accomplish such a feat.
MILLICENT
You could.
ALBUS
Perhaps. Finding Voldemort has been
our top priority. He is elusive.
MILLICENT
How can I help?
17.

ALBUS
I concede that it might be best if
we could grow our ranks further.
But I would have to select them
myself. And there would have be to
other security measures in place.
Your aurors, perhaps. But it may be
best if you didn’t know who I have
recruited.
MILLICENT
Why?
ALBUS
To ensure the operation is entirely
independent of the government.
MILLICENT
Do you have anyone in mind already?
ALBUS
Yes.
MILLICENT
But you’re not going to give me
names?
ALBUS
I think it’s for the best.
MILLICENT
Very well.
ALBUS
Speaking of which, I’ve heard some
disturbing rumours of late about
the aurors.
MILLICENT
Oh?
ALBUS
About one of Crouch’s new policies.
MILLICENT
Ah. I would say that is none of
your concern - but then I suppose
that it is.
ALBUS
Is it true?
18.

MILLICENT
You must understand, the pressure
we’re all under, the resilience of
Voldemort’s followers - measures
had to be taken-
ALBUS
So it is true.
Millicent sinks in her chair.
MILLICENT
Yes, it’s true.
ALBUS
I see.
MILLICENT
Do not think lesser of me.
ALBUS
Of course not.
MILLICENT
This needs to end.
ALBUS
It will.

INT. ALBUS’ OFFICE, HOGWARTS - NIGHT

Albus walks into his office and sits in the chair behind his
desk.
There is a pecking at one of the windows. An owl.
Albus flicks his wand and the window opens, allowing for the
owl to hand deliver its letter to him.
ALBUS
Peculiar.
He strokes the owl as he opens the letter.
ALICE (V.O.)
Albus. It’s me. We need to talk.
Tonight. Won’t say more here. Your
safe house.
Albus stares at the letter for a few moments, then burns the
letter with his wand and immediately disapparates.
19.

EXT. SUBURBAN STREET - NIGHT

Albus apparates in a normal looking street. He looks around
him, pulls out his ‘Deluminator’ and quickly turns out the
lights.
He walks into one of the small houses and notices a car
parked out front.

INT. ALBUS’ SAFE HOUSE, LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

He walks into the house, which is furnished nicely and flicks
his wand to reveal a hidden passageway into the basement.
He walks down.

INT. ALBUS’ SAFE HOUSE, BASEMENT - NIGHT

Albus walks into the basement, furnished with a carpet, a
couple of beds, a sofa, and a couple of desks, as well as
cupboards for storing food. It’s equipped entirely for
someone needing to stay hidden for a long period of time.
Alice sits in an armchair, wand raised.
ALBUS
Alice, thank goodness.
ALICE
What were the last words that Albus
said to me?
ALBUS
(Calmly)
Are you sure you’re ready for this?
Alice lowers her wand. Albus stays where he is.
ALBUS (CONT’D)
What is Alice’s greatest fear?
ALICE
That I enjoy my work.
Albus walks over to her and sits next to her.
ALBUS
What happened?
20.

ALICE
My informant, before the death
eaters found us and attacked, he
told me-
She struggles.
ALBUS
It’s alright.
He flicks his wand to bring her a glass of water, which she
refuses.
ALICE
(Clearing her throat)
He said there’s a mole.
Albus says nothing.
ALICE (CONT’D)
Within the order itself.
He looks to the floor.
ALICE (CONT’D)
It could very well be anyone, as I
could never have believed that
there was a mole amongst us.
ALBUS
Did your informant know anything
else?
ALICE
Maybe. Doesn’t matter now. He’s
dead.
ALBUS
Mm.
ALICE
It could be anyone, under the
imperious curse.
ALBUS
If someone were under the curse we
would know it.
ALICE
How, Albus?
ALBUS
We know our friends better than
anyone.
21.
ALBUS (CONT'D)
If they were acting even the
slightest bit different, we would
notice.
ALICE
I’m not so certain.
ALBUS
Perhaps it is foolish of me to
hope.
ALICE
That’s all you have? Hope?
ALBUS
I am not oblivious to the
difficulty of the sit-
ALICE
Of course not. But we need
solutions.
ALBUS
It is incredibly difficult to know
for certain.
ALICE
Then what’s the use of the security
questions?
ALBUS
An enemy in disguise would not know
the answers. It defends against one
sort of magic. The imperious curse
is something else entirely.
Beat.
ALICE
I can’t come out of hiding.
ALBUS
Why not?
ALICE
It’s to my advantage. And yours.
ALBUS
But the death eaters know you’re
alive.
22.

ALICE
I’m hiding because I don’t know who
I can trust. Which places me in a
unique position for you.
ALBUS
Yes, it does. A rather useful one.
ALICE
Now you’re catching on.
ALBUS
How would you investigate this for
me if you don’t want people to know
where you are and how you are? You
would, presumably, need to talk to
the various suspects within the
order.
ALICE
Only one of them is the mole, the
rest can be trusted. But I need you
to make that judgement, because I
no longer can.
ALBUS
You don’t trust any of them?
ALICE
I said I have no idea which one the
mole could be, so they’re all
suspect to me.
ALBUS
I see.
ALICE
We know that the information is
genuine. He was killed in an
attempt to protect it. They knew
that he wanted to defect.
ALBUS
I’ll find someone. Everything is
much more complicated after that
whole mess. The fact you came out
of it alive is a miracle.
ALICE
I should only have contact with the
person you choose. And you, of
course. Anyone else is too much of
a risk for now.
23.

ALBUS
I understand.

EXT. ORDER HEADQUARTERS - DAY

Lily walks into the building. It seemingly disappears after
she shuts the door.

INT. ORDER HEADQUARTERS, MEETING ROOM - DAY

Lily sits opposite Alastor.
ALASTOR
It’s a bold idea. I need to be sure
you’re comfortable with it.
LILY
I can’t guarantee that. You have to
tell me before I can make that sort
of judgement.
ALASTOR
We have intelligence that suggests
that more than a few of Voldemort’s
followers are afraid enough of it,
that they’d want to defect. I want
to get a spy on his side.
LILY
Alright. How?
ALASTOR
We think we have a weak point in
Severus Snape.
Lily sighs.
LILY
I see. And what makes you think
that he is the weak link within
Voldemort’s ranks?
ALASTOR
I have my sources. I trust them.
LILY
I’m sure they believe what they’re
telling you is accurate - that
doesn’t mean that it is.
24.

ALASTOR
I would usually agree. But young
Severus is hardly someone I would
describe as having a back bone.
LILY
So you’re basing this operation on
a gut feeling of yours?
ALASTOR
No. On hard facts and decent
information.
LILY
I’m not confident that this is a
good idea.
ALASTOR
You don’t have to - you just need
to do as you’re told in this
instance.
LILY
I don’t have to do anything for
you.
ALASTOR
Lily, listen - you’re one of
Severus’ oldest friends-
LILY
We’re not friends.
ALASTOR
You were.
LILY
A long time ago.
ALASTOR
And that means something. Friends
since childhood? That’s a powerful
motivator.
LILY
So what; you want me to convince
him to turn traitor? And he’ll
agree because we were once friends?
ALASTOR
That’s more or less the gist of it,
yes.
25.

LILY
You’re basing all this on-
ALASTOR
Let me stop you there, Lily. Have I
ever given you reason to doubt me?
Beat.
LILY
That’s a poor excuse.
He gives a stern look.
LILY (CONT’D)
This is going to get someone
killed. Likely me.
ALASTOR
It won’t. I’m not an idiot.
LILY
There’s a plan beyond me exploiting
my past with Snape, then?
ALASTOR
Don’t take that tone with me, girl.
I’ve been doing this since before
you were born.
Silence.
LILY
What do you need me to do?
ALASTOR
Set up a meeting with him. That
shouldn’t be too hard to do. Use
your patronus the way we showed
you.
LILY
Alright.

EXT. WESTMINSTER BRIDGE - NIGHT

James walks along the bridge. The fog is thick. Albus walks
towards him. They meet halfway. There are few other people
around, but the traffic is heavy.
JAMES
Are you certain this is the safest
place to meet?
26.

ALBUS
Although we’re exposed, I like to
think we’re blending in quite
nicely.
JAMES
What’s this about, Albus? Why the
secrecy? Why couldn’t we just meet
at the headquarters?
ALBUS
Because what I am about to tell you
is top secret. No one must know -
for reasons that will quickly
become evident.
JAMES
Go on...
ALBUS
Alice contacted me.
JAMES
(Disbelief)
What?
ALBUS
She said that there’s a mole. Right
at the top of the Order. That
they’ve been there for years.
JAMES
Is the information legitimate?
Albus shoots him a look.
JAMES (CONT’D)
Where did she get it.
ALICE (O.S.)
From my informant. He’s dead now
for trying to defect. Or do you not
recall the incident?
Alice walks towards them both.
JAMES
Alice-
ALICE
We need your help.
JAMES
Why? Why not you, Albus?
27.

ALBUS
I have to focus on the bigger
picture. On stopping this- all of
this, once and for all. If I
distract myself and allow myself to
get caught up in the possibilities
of who I am able to trust and who I
am not able to trust, the Order is
doomed.
JAMES
Alright. So how do you know that
you can trust me? Or Alice? How do
you know that one of us isn’t under
the imperious curse?
ALBUS
Do you think that I am so unwise as
to not know when my friends are
under that curse?
JAMES
I was always under the impression
it was difficult to detect.
ALBUS
Not especially, no. Not really.
JAMES
What do you want us to do when we
find the mole?
ALBUS
They’re not under the imperious
curse.
JAMES
I didn’t say-
ALBUS
It was the clear direction your
thoughts were heading in.
JAMES
So this really is a spy for the
Death Eaters?
ALICE
Yes.
JAMES
Your informant, what are the
chances that their home hasn’t been
burnt to the ground?
28.

ALICE
Low.
JAMES
Still, we should make sure.
ALICE
Why would you think I know where
they lived? Death Eaters aren’t so
careless.
JAMES
So you don’t know where-
ALICE
I do, actually. But it will almost
certainly guarded with all manner
of safeguards. It’s the Selwyn
family home.
JAMES
One of the Selwyn’s was your
contact?
ALICE
Yes.
JAMES
Which?
ALICE
We didn’t get on a first name
basis, funnily enough.
ALBUS
You will need to be discreet.
James, as Alice is still
technically ‘in hiding’, you will
need to be the one to keep an eye
on the other members of the Order.
You must trust your instincts. We
need to find this mole. Quickly.
They may be the very reason
Voldemort has managed to evade us
for so long. They will have had
inside information on everything
that we do.
Albus sighs.
ALBUS (CONT’D)
Alice is in a good position to
continue her investigation outside
of the Order.
29.
ALBUS (CONT’D)
But you’ll need one another, to
join up the dots, as it were.
JAMES
Alright.
ALBUS
You can’t let anyone know what
you’re doing. No one else is to no.
JAMES
Alastor?
ALBUS
No.
JAMES
Lily?
Albus looks at him, sternly.
JAMES (CONT’D)
No one, understood.
ALICE
We need to get moving.
ALBUS
As do I. Be careful, both of you.
Contact me if you need anything or
as soon as you have something to
report.
He turns and disapparates.
Beat.
ALICE
How’s Frank?
JAMES
How do you think?
ALICE
You have to understand, I-
JAMES
No, I get it.
ALICE
You can’t trust anyone, James.
Everyone is suspect. We need to be
objective.
30.

JAMES
I know what we have to do, I’m not
a child.
ALICE
Yes you are.
James rounds on her.
ALICE (CONT’D)
In the best way, I mean. You’re too
young to be fighting in this war.
JAMES
(Defensively)
And where else should I be? And
you’re not much older, anyway!
ALICE
I didn’t mean to offend you.
JAMES
I’m not offended, I’m just saying.
ALICE
Alright.
Beat.
JAMES
You should at least send him a
letter or something. He misses you.
He’s worried. I think he half
believes you’re dead.
ALICE
I will.
JAMES
Alright.
Alice looks out over the Thames.
ALICE
Who would you put your money on?
JAMES
The mole?
ALICE
Mm.
James considers.
31.

INSERT: INT. ORDER HEADQUARTERS, MEETING ROOM - NIGHT. The

members of the Order, gathered around a large table. Albus,
Alastor, BENJI, CARADOC, DORCAS, FABIAN, GIDEON, MARLENE,
Lily, Sirius, Remus, Frank and Peter.
JAMES
I honestly don’t know.
ALICE
Good.
JAMES
More out of disbelief that one of
them could be a mole, than a
suspicion of everyone.
ALICE
You’ll get there.
James is concerned by this.
ALICE (CONT’D)
We should go. We’ve wasted enough
time.
JAMES
The Selwyn home?
ALICE
Yes.
James nods and they both disapparate.

INT. SIRIUS’ HOME, FRONT DOOR - DAY

Sirius opens the door to Lily.
SIRIUS
Lily.
Lily walks past him.
LILY
Remus here too?
SIRIUS
Sure, just in the living room.
He follows her through.
32.

INT. SIRIUS' HOME, LIVING ROOM - DAY

Remus stands to greet Lily.
LILY
I’ve been given a job to by
Alastor.
REMUS
Alright?
SIRIUS
(to Remus)
She needs our help.
LILY
Just as back up. In case there are
multiple Death Eaters.
REMUS
(concerned)
What have you been asked to do?
LILY
I’m to make contact with Severus.
SIRIUS
What the fuck for?
REMUS
To turn him. Or trap him.
SIRIUS
Isn’t he one of the higher ranking
Death Eaters? How does Alastor
imagine we’ll manage that on our
own?
LILY
It’s just a thought that he had.
Try to turn one of theirs.
REMUS
It seems poorly conceived.
LILY
He doesn’t know the specifics of
our relationship. He just knows
that we were friends, once.
REMUS
Did you try telling him?
33.

LILY
He wasn’t going to listen to me.
SIRIUS
So what’re you going to do?
LILY
Make contact with him. In all
honesty, he probably won’t respond.
SIRIUS
Alright.
REMUS
And if he does?
LILY
We’ll set a meeting place.
Somewhere in public, amongst as
many people as we can. They know
that dozens of people running
scared can make a duel more
difficult. They would be less
likely to try something under those
circumstances.
REMUS
That’s a big gamble. If it comes to
a fight, a lot of people could get
hurt.
LILY
The alternative is walking into a
trap. They’ll feel much more bold
if we pick a secluded location. And
we don’t have anyone else to spare
for this operation, so we can’t
just send in an army.
Beat.
SIRIUS
Mm.
LILY
We’ll just see if I can establish
contact first.
Remus nods.
34.

SIRIUS
Have you seen James? He was
supposed to come over last night,
but ended up telling us that he was
busy instead.
LILY
Doing something for Alastor, maybe.
REMUS
Or Albus.
LILY
Maybe. He told me the same thing.
SIRIUS
Alright, I was just wondering. He
hasn’t said anything about it.
LILY
Look, I should go. I need to get on
with this.
REMUS
We’ll talk this over some more,
later.
Lily nods and walks out.
Beat.
SIRIUS
She seems rattled.
REMUS
Wouldn’t you be?
SIRIUS
What, about Snape?
REMUS
No. I mean if you were in Lily’s
situation.
SIRIUS
So... about Snape?
REMUS
That’s not what I- forget it.
SIRIUS
She doesn’t need to be afraid.
35.

REMUS
Rattled, not afraid.
SIRIUS
What does ‘rattled’ even-
REMUS
You’re impossible sometimes.
SIRIUS
I don’t mean to be.
Remus sighs.
REMUS
Let’s just talk about something
else.
He collapses onto the sofa.
SIRIUS
Like what?
Sirius stays standing.
REMUS
Not sure.
Beat.
SIRIUS
What’s wrong?
REMUS
How long can we keep doing this?
He motions to the both of them.
Sirius sits next to him, takes his hand and kisses him on the
cheek.
SIRIUS
As long as we can.
REMUS
Alright.

INT. LILY AND JAMES’ HOME, LIVING ROOM - DAY

Lily sits in the living room on the sofa, staring into a cup
of tea.
BEGIN FLASHBACK:
36.

INT. HOGWARTS CORRIDOR - DAY

SEVERUS (15) follows Lily (15) as she quickly walks away from
him.
SEVERUS
Would you please listen to me?
LILY
No! I’ve heard you. I’ve been
hearing you. I don’t care anymore,
Severus.
SEVERUS
I didn’t mean it, I swear to you -
I was just so angry at the fu-
LILY
That doesn’t make it okay!
SEVERUS
No, I know, but-
LILY
I would never say anything like
that to you. Not even if you
entirely deserved it - which you
do, by the way.
SEVERUS
If I could take it back, I would.
LILY
You can’t.
SEVERUS
Lily, I could never hurt you.
LILY
But you have. What you said back
there, in front of everyone...
SEVERUS
I know.
LILY
I’m your friend. I was trying to
help.
Severus lowers his head in shame.
SEVERUS
I know.
37.

LILY
I want you to stay away from me.
He looks at her.
SEVERUS
Lily-
LILY
I want you to stay away from me.
SEVERUS
Please-
LILY
I don’t care. You’ve shown me what
you really think. Who you really
are.
SEVERUS
That’s not who I am, I swear to
you!
LILY
Yes it is! You fucking called me a
mudblood!
Beat.
LILY (CONT’D)
I thought that you were better than
that. That it never mattered to
you.
SEVERUS
It doesn’t!
Lily stares.
LILY
Don’t talk to me again. You disgust
me.
She turns and walks away, leaving Severus alone.
END OF FLASHBACK.

INT. LILY AND JAMES' HOME, LIVING ROOM - DAY

Lily drinks her tea and waits.
38.

EXT. STREET - DAY

James sits in the passenger seat of Alice’s car.
JAMES
So how did you find attempting a
muggle driving test?
ALICE
Terrifying. But I got through it.
It was the lessons beforehand that
were painful. I hated it. My
instructor was an arse.
JAMES
You didn’t cheat at all?
Alice shoots him a look.
JAMES (CONT’D)
I don’t mean- that’s just what I
imagine that I would have to do.
So, you did pretty well then?
ALICE
Yes. Passed first time. One or two
mistakes, nothing major.
JAMES
Why did you hate your instructor?
ALICE
He’s a pleasant enough old man,
he’s just a terrible teacher. And
his car was falling to pieces.
JAMES
Really?
ALICE
Not literally. It was just passed
its prime.
JAMES
Ahh.
ALICE
I thought that hiding as a muggle
would be advantageous in our line
of work. I’m surprised more of us
don’t try it, blend in with the
masses.
39.

JAMES
You know what people are like. Too
willing to stick to what they know.
ALICE
Mm.
JAMES
Hold on, someone’s coming.
ALICE
Muggle.
They wait.
A MUGGLE (early 50s) passes by the large house they are
watching.
ALICE (CONT’D)
See?
JAMES
Yep.
ALICE
What’s the time?
James checks his pocket watch.
JAMES
Three-twenty. Ish.
ALICE
Sun is down by six. We’ll wait a
little longer till the street is
deserted and then go in.
JAMES
Mm.
ALICE
We just need to be sure.
JAMES
I know.
Beat.
James shuffles around in his car seat.
ALICE
What’re you doing?
He stares.
40.

JAMES
We’ve been sat here for more than
twelve hours! My ass is sore!
ALICE
Sit still, you’ll draw attention to
us!
JAMES
I’m just going to use a cushion
char-
ALICE
No magic! They could detect it
instantly.
James throws his head back into his headrest.
JAMES
How have you lived like this?
ALICE
You get used to it. Now stop
whining.
JAMES
I’m not whining.
ALICE
Yes you are, you’re acting like a
child.
JAMES
Oh, I see. We’re doing that now.
ALICE
You are still a child.
JAMES
I’m eighteen. An adult.
ALICE
Legally.
JAMES
You’re not much older!
ALICE
Five years is a long time, you’d be
surprised at what can happen in
that time.
JAMES
Mm. I suppose when you’re an auror-
41.

ALICE
Exactly.
James sighs, turns and kneels on his seat.
JAMES
If I stay like this for thirty
minutes, I’ll be fine.
ALICE
I sometimes wonder why Albus let
you join the Order.
JAMES
I have as much right to fight
Voldemort as you do.
ALICE
Mm.
JAMES
How many of the Selwyn family are
still alive?
ALICE
We don’t know for certain, anymore.
Since joining Voldemort’s cause,
they’ve kept to themselves. I was
always certain it was just the
youngest son left alive. But it’s
possible his sister is kicking
about somewhere.
JAMES
Could be why it wasn’t destroyed.
ALICE
Probably. I doubt we’ll find
anything in there, but best to
cover all of our options.
JAMES
Sure.
Beat.
ALICE
How’s Lily?
JAMES
Fine.
42.

ALICE
How was the wedding? I was sorry to
miss it.
JAMES
What happened to you put a dampener
on things.
ALICE
Ah. Sorry.
JAMES
We were mostly worried.
ALICE
Still, was it nice before that?
JAMES
Absolutely.
ALICE
Good.
JAMES
(sighs)
When you met him before, what was
his reason for wanting to defect?
ALICE
He seemed terrified. But I gave him
the usual pitch, you know. ‘Come
over to our side, and we can give
you a comfortable life - after
questioning’. He seemed certain
that if he were to stay with the
Death Eaters any longer, that he
would’ve been killed.
She rests her head on her head rest and looks out of the
window.
ALICE (CONT’D)
He seemed as though he was in a
rush; which of course was entirely
justified. His side had tailed him.
They killed him and were hoping to
kill or capture me as well. Two for
the price of one. A good day for
them all round.
JAMES
Except they didn’t catch you.
43.

ALICE
They still plugged their leak.
JAMES
Assuming he is their only leak.
ALICE
Mm.
Beat.
JAMES
Jesus, what if-
ALICE
It’s possible.
Pause.
ALICE (CONT’D)
Could you just sit down, normally,
please?
James looks annoyed.

EXT. LONDON STREET - NIGHT

Lily meets Remus and Sirius outside of a restaurant. They are
both dressed in muggle clothing, and Sirius’ clothing is
especially colourful, paired with high waisted trousers.
LILY
(to Sirius)
You look good.
SIRIUS
I thought so too. Apparently this
outfit is quite fashionable.
Thought that I should try to look
the part, given the choice of
venue.
LILY
I thought a crowded, upper class
restaurant would be more Severus’
thing.
REMUS
Let’s hope he shows. We’ve two
hours till they’re supposed to
arrive.
44.

SIRIUS
They?
REMUS
He won’t be coming alone, Sirius.
That’s why we’re here. So none of
us are outnumbered.
LILY
Let’s go.
They walk in.

EXT. STREET - NIGHT

Alice and James look around at the dark and empty street.
JAMES
Ready?
ALICE
Yeah. Time to go.
They get out of the car, Alice picks up a backpack and they
head towards the house. They both draw their wands.
ALICE (CONT’D)
Alohomora.
The door opens.
The two enter.

INT. SELWYN FAMILY HOME, HALLWAY - NIGHT

Alice and James enter into a long, dark hallway. The house is
still furnished, with many ornate paintings and portraits and
mirrors hanging on the walls, as well as a large, now dusty,
rug running along the hallway.
Alice points her wand.
ALICE
Specialis Revelio.
Nothing happens.
JAMES
That’s good at least.
45.

ALICE
Let’s see if there’s anything
that’s been left behind.
JAMES
Start on this floor and work our
way up.
ALICE
Agreed.
The two look around.

INT. SELWYN FAMILY HOME, LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Alice searches through the various books upon the bookshelves
whilst James looks around the various other tables,
cupboards, window sills, etc.
JAMES
He wouldn’t have left anything out
in the open like this, surely.
ALICE
We’re just being thorough.
JAMES
Isn’t it better to look in the
places where we’ve a better chance
at finding something, first?
Alice is annoyed that James isn’t doing things the way that
she does them.
ALICE
Okay. Where should we look?
JAMES
Bedroom. Or try and find any secret
rooms?
ALICE
This isn’t Hogwarts.
James grumbles to himself as Alice continues to search
around.

INT. SELWYN FAMILY HOME, BEDROOM - NIGHT

Alice walks into Selwyn’s bedroom. It is as extravagant as
the rest of the house.
46.

She continues her routine of looking in every nook and

cranny.
Before long, she finds a secret passage way, hidden behind a
large mirror, which swings open as a door would.
James enters the room.
JAMES
Oh, there actually is - I’m more
shocked than you, believe me.
ALICE
We might finally be having some
good luck, James.
JAMES
Certainly couldn’t hurt.
They both walk in.

INT. SELWYN FAMILY HOME, HIDDEN ROOM - NIGHT

They walk down a stone stairway into a small room, stuffed
with books and files and paper; the bookcases in the room
filled to the brim. A large desk in the corner of the room
with all manner of book and document on it.
On the wall in front of them, multiple pictures of members of
the Order hang. Alastor, Peter, Remus, Benji, Fabian, Gideon,
James, Lily, Frank and Alice.
Alice walks up to the desk and begins examining the
documents.
JAMES
What is this? Why does he have
these?
ALICE
Give me a minute...
JAMES
Is he gathering intel on us? Making
his way through the members of the
Order?
ALICE
I’m trying to read.
The documents reveal information regarding the mole within
the Order. It appears that Selwyn was running the mole
himself.
47.

ALICE (CONT’D)
Selwyn was running the mole.
JAMES
What?
ALICE
That will be how he knew of the
mole. All of that information is
intelligence on each of us, that
the mole gave to him.
JAMES
Fuck.
Pause.
JAMES (CONT’D)
The name. We need the name.
She searches.
ALICE
There isn’t one - but that would’ve
been sloppy, so.
JAMES
We can use this.
He points to the pictures on the wall.
ALICE
Could be purposefully misleading.
JAMES
Mm. No harm in being thorough.
ALICE
We’ll take it then. All of it.
JAMES
Alright.
Beat.
JAMES (CONT’D)
What use would his mole have been
had he come to our side? That was
his bargaining chip. But the mole
was being run by him-
48.

ALICE
They’d have had back-up plans in
place, James. Stop underestimating
our enemy.
JAMES
So someone new is running the mole?
ALICE
More than likely.
JAMES
Look at all this; personal
histories, family background,
habits, likely weak points. Whoever
the mole is knows us well.
ALICE
That is rather the point.
JAMES
What do you think their mission is?
ALICE
Reveal any and all plans to the
Death Eaters and look for weak
spots in our system, the usual.
JAMES
Wonder how many of our operations
have failed because of this mole...
ALICE
We’d need to know how many years
they’ve been operating. It doesn’t
look as though they’ve been
operating for more than a few
years.
JAMES
It’s a wonder they don’t have our
Gringotts account information.
ALICE
Are you forthcoming about your
vault number?
JAMES
No, but-
ALICE
Because if you are, you deserve to
have your money stolen.
49.

JAMES
Yes alright.
Alice freezes still.
ALICE
Do you hear that?
James listens.
JAMES
No.
Beat.
ALICE
Alright.
JAMES
Your paranoia is getting worse.
ALICE
Shut up.
JAMES
I just mean-
ALICE
Let’s grab everything and go.
She pulls her backpack from her back and begins shoving the
various documents into it.
JAMES
We’ll need to update Albus on the
situation.
ALICE
There’s nothing to tell him yet.
JAMES
Still, I think he wants to be kept
in the loop.
ALICE
Maybe, but we’ve still nothing to
tell him.
JAMES
A list of potential suspects isn’t
nothing-
50.

ALICE
It is if that list is as long as
the list for the members of the
Order - which is might as well be.
We have nothing. Yet.
She continues packing more things into her bag.
VOICE (O.S.)
Petrificus totalus!
Alice freezes as James spins around to block the next curse
that flies at him.
He and the caster exchange multiple spells that they both
keep deflecting with their own shielding charms.
The spells stop. James keeps his wand pointed at the entrance
to the room.

INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT

Lily sits alone in the middle of the crowded restaurant.
Sirius and Remus are at another table, close by, attempting
to blend in with the muggles.
REMUS
This doesn’t feel right.
SIRIUS
I thought we agreed not to talk
about it then.
REMUS
He may not show.
SIRIUS
Then at least we can enjoy a meal
together without looking over our
shoulders.
Remus smiles.
REMUS
He did respond though.
SIRIUS
Yes.
REMUS
It’s more than likely he could show
now.
51.

SIRIUS
Yes.
REMUS
It’s the waiting that’s the hard
part.
SIRIUS
It always is.
REMUS
Are you alright?
SIRIUS
(laughs)
I’m fine! I’m worried about you.
REMUS
I can’t relax.
SIRIUS
Just try to enjoy yourself.
REMUS
And how am I supposed to do that?
This could go very wrong in
multiple ways.
SIRIUS
We’ll make sure it doesn’t.
REMUS
There are too many people. You
can’t make assurances like that.
SIRIUS
You really are better off not
focusing on that.
REMUS
Maybe so. But it’s incredibly
difficult not to.
SIRIUS
Were things different-
REMUS
But they’re not, Sirius.
SIRIUS
I know.
52.

REMUS
We should just keep our focus on
the entrance points.
SIRIUS
Mm.
Pause.
SIRIUS (CONT’D)
I’d have thought the service in a
place like this would be far
better.
REMUS
Really? You’re worried about where
our food is?
SIRIUS
It’s an essential part of our
disguise. We need to blend in.
Remus looks around at the restaurant.
REMUS
I’m not entirely sure that will be
possible.
Lily sees Severus, wearing a slim-fitted black suit. He sees
Lily and walks over to her table. He shows no emotion on his
face.
LILY
Severus.
His facade almost immediately crumbles.
SEVERUS
Lily.
LILY
Should we order something?
Severus looks around, nervously.
Sirius is staring at him, over Remus’ shoulder. Remus is
drinking his wine.
SEVERUS
No. Thank you.
LILY
Alright.
53.

Beat.
LILY (CONT’D)
I’m not entirely sure where to
begin.
SEVERUS
Why am I here?
LILY
You are here because we need your
help.
SEVERUS
We?
LILY
The Order.
SEVERUS
And why would I help the Order?
LILY
You’re not like the rest of the
Death Eaters, Severus.
He rolls his eyes.
LILY (CONT’D)
We were friends once.
His gaze lowers to the table. Lily, seeing this, presses her
attack.
LILY (CONT’D)
For years.
SEVERUS
I remember.
LILY
And in the name of that friendship
that last us for so long, I am
asking you for your help.
Pause.
LILY (CONT’D)
(whispers)
I know you do not truly share your
master’s beliefs of pureblood
superiority.
She hesitates, but reaches for Severus’ hand.
54.

He has frozen.
SEVERUS
I-
LILY
Please.
SEVERUS
When I said, what I said to you -
back then- I never meant-
LILY
I know.
His hand curls around Lily’s and she lets it.
SEVERUS
It can’t be possible now- it
wouldn’t be possible, I mean.
LILY
It isn’t too late.
He stares into her eyes.
SEVERUS
Lily...
LILY
We don’t have to talk about what
happened.
SEVERUS
Alright.
LILY
But we can talk about what’s going
to happen now.
SEVERUS
I-
LILY
We need your help.
Severus recoils a little. He draws back his hand.
SEVERUS
The Order.
LILY
Yes.
55.

SEVERUS
Not you?
LILY
What? Yes me.
SEVERUS
Do you - you need my help?
LILY
We all do.
SEVERUS
You said that you could never
forgive me for what I did.
LILY
That’s right.
SEVERUS
Does that still hold true?
LILY
Yes.
SEVERUS
Then how could we-
LILY
I might be will-
SEVERUS
You might be?
LILY
Do you think it’s easy to-
SEVERUS
Do you think it is easy for me to
sit across from you?
LILY
Stop making out like you were ever
the victim!
SEVERUS
I was!
LILY
Not with me!
He sits back in his chair.
56.

SEVERUS
I heard about the wedding.
LILY
He grew up.
SEVERUS
That tends to happen to people.
LILY
He grew more mature, I mean.
SEVERUS
What is it that you really want
from me, Lily? Stop playing this
game.

INT. SELWYN FAMILY HOME, HIDDEN ROOM - NIGHT

James points his wand at the shadowy figure lurking in the
entrance way to the room. Alice is frozen still.
JAMES
There’s only one way this will end
for you.
Selwyn steps out of the shadows.
JAMES (CONT’D)
Not dead then?
SELWYN
Why? Do I look dead?
JAMES
Did you pull a-
He stops.
JAMES (CONT’D)
It was a set-up. All of it.
SELWYN
(smiling)
Why so shocked?
JAMES
We’ve had Death Eaters defect
before.
57.

SELWYN
Well, yes, but how long do they
ever last? We take that sort of
betrayal rather personally.
JAMES
Understandable.
SELWYN
Indeed.
JAMES
You failed to catch Alice.
SELWYN
That wasn’t my failure. I’d done my
job to the letter.
JAMES
And that’ll be why you’re still
alive, I suppose.
SELWYN
More or less.
JAMES
Your mole. Nice bit of bait.
SELWYN
Not my mole any more. Had to stay
hidden, you understand-
He fires another curse at James, but he deflects it.
JAMES
Keeping me on my toes?
SELWYN
Wouldn’t want to bore you.
JAMES
Sorry to say, you’re not
succeeding.
SELWYN
Arrogant little shit, aren’t you?
James blasts a jinx at him, but he easily deflects it.
SELWYN (CONT’D)
Terrible.
58.

JAMES
Tell me who the mole is and I’ll
allow you to live.
The two exchange more spells.
SELWYN
Nice that this time I’ll be able to
complete the job my friends were
unable to finish. And two members
of the Order instead of one - the
reward for that should be-
James blasts another spell, deflected again by Selwyn.
SELWYN (CONT’D)
Would you stop that!? Honestly,
it’s embarrassing!
JAMES
I’d no idea that my spellcasting
offended you.
SELWYN
Stupid boy!
The two continue to duel.

INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT

SEVERUS
You know that my answer is no.
LILY
Mm.
SEVERUS
What was the point of this?
LILY
I was following orders.
SEVERUS
I see.
LILY
You think I can’t play this game?
SEVERUS
I don’t believe you even know the
rules.
59.

LILY
We’ll see.
SEVERUS
(sighs)
You can walk out.
LILY
Thank you for your permission.
SEVERUS
You’d rather I took you back to
Voldemort?
LILY
You could try.
Beat.
SEVERUS
They want me to capture you.
LILY
So try it.
Pause.
SEVERUS
Please go.
Lily stands.
LILY
What do you expect, a thank you?
SEVERUS
No.
LILY
Good.
Sirius’ eyes are glued to Severus.
LILY (CONT’D)
I feel sorry for you, you know?
Severus says nothing. Lily walks out.
Sirius relaxes a little.
SIRIUS
She’s gone.
60.

REMUS
Good.
Sirius looks back at Severus who is sat contemplatively. He
then looks around him and makes eye contact with Sirius.
A moment of realisation.
REMUS (CONT’D)
What? Sirius, what is it?
He notices the expression on Sirius’ face. He realises.
Beat.
REMUS (CONT’D)
(talking slowly)
I’ll get the muggles out. Ready?
Sirius nods, slowly. Severus notices.
All three men jump up, wands at the ready, all at once.

REMUS (CONT’D) SIRIUS

Protego maxima! Protego maxima!
SEVERUS
Sectumsempra!
Remus and Sirius’ spell forms a shield around Severus whilst
Severus’ spells fizzles out against it.
REMUS
(shouting)
Everyone out now!
No one moves.
REMUS (CONT’D)
Everyone-
He realises.
The people fizzle out and they see two more men, REGULAS
BLACK (18) and BARTEMIOUS CROUCH (17) immediately stand and
begin blasting spells at them.
Sirius blocks their spells whilst Remus throws over a table
and jumps behind it.
REGULAS
Sirius.
61.

SIRIUS
Hello little brother.
Regulas and Bartemious keep their wands pointed at him.
Sirius fires a jinx and they throw down a table of their own
to block it as Sirius joins Remus.
Severus blasts a spell at his shield and it shatters.
REMUS
Any ideas?
SIRIUS
Yep.
REMUS
What-
Sirius points his wand at the table they’re taking cover
behind.
SIRIUS
Expulso!
The table flies forwards, smashing into the table that
Regulas and Bartemious are hiding behind.
Sirius and Remus immediately turn and begin dueling Severus.
Regulas and Bartemious pick themselves up and the latter is
hit by a curse out of nowhere.
Lily appears and begins dueling with Regulas as Sirius and
Remus continue to duel Severus.
SIRIUS (CONT’D)
Severus, will you ever learn?
Severus appears to be struggling.
SIRIUS (CONT’D)
You’ve never stood a chance against
us.
Severus yells in anger and continues blasting a barrage of
curses and are dodged and deflected by Remus and Sirius.
SIRIUS (CONT’D)
Oh, if only James were here, he’d
love to kick the crap out of you
again!
62.

SEVERUS
(screaming)
Shut up! Crucio!
Remus and Sirius are forced to jump out of the way.
Lily knocks Bartemious out cold and disarms Regulas, running
up to him, kicking him between his legs, grabbing him and
then digs her wand into his temple.
LILY
(screams)
Enough!
Severus stops.
Sirius and Remus stand, Remus injured and now disarmed
himself - he leans on Sirius for support.
SIRIUS
Lily, we can finish them, right
now. What’re you doing?
LILY
We’re walking out of here.
SEVERUS
Not with him, you’re not.
LILY
Too bad.
REGULAS
Just grab Barty and go.
Severus says nothing.
SIRIUS
(forcefully)
Lily! We can take them both!
LILY
(snarling)
That wasn’t the plan!
SIRIUS
It wasn’t your plan!
He drops Remus and points his wand at Severus.
SIRIUS (CONT’D)
Petrificus totalus!
Severus dives out of the way.
63.

Regulas takes advantage of the confusion, and headbutts Lily

in the face before grabbing his wand and disapparating.
Severus fires off a curse at Sirius, dives towards the
unconscious Bartemious and also disapparates.
Lily picks herself up from the floor, points her wand at her
noise and fixes it with magic. She sits for a moment, holding
her nose.
Remus patches himself up as Sirius walks towards Lily. She
glares at him but says nothing.

INT. SELWYN FAMILY HOME, HIDDEN ROOM - NIGHT

James and Selwyn continue to duel. He dives out of the way of
one of James’ spells and stands behind Alice, his wand
pointed at her head.
SELWYN
I’ve had just about enough of this.
JAMES
Me too. It’s been an incredibly
long day, and honestly, I just want
to go to bed. So why don’t you drop
your wand and surrender, there’s a
good chap.
SELWYN
Or you could drop yours and your
friend here won’t die.
JAMES
But that would give me enough time
to cast the same curse at you and
take you back to the Order myself.
SELWYN
Your friend would be dead.
JAMES
And you’d be our prisoner. See how
this works?
Selwyn scowls.
SELWYN
What do they call this?
JAMES
An impasse, Selwyn. An impasse.
64.

SELWYN
If I were to give up the name of my
mole, they would kill me.
JAMES
Join us. Defect.
SELWYN
Never.
JAMES
I suppose that settles that then.
SELWYN
You’re a traitor to your own kind.
JAMES
I could say the same of you.
SELWYN
A disgrace to purebloods.
JAMES
Oh do shut up.
SELWYN
You-
JAMES
Incendio!
James blasts flames around him, the room catching fire
immediately as Selwyn drops to the floor.
SELWYN
What’re you doing!?
James casts an anti-jinx to free Alice and she kicks Selwyn
in the face to knock him unconscious.
ALICE
That was a stupid gamble!
JAMES
It paid off didn’t it?
The house burns around them.
JAMES (CONT’D)
Is this really the time for an
argument?
Alice holds onto Selwyn and disapparates. James follows.
65.

EXT. STREET - NIGHT

The Selwyn family home is catching fire quickly as James and
Alice throw the unconscious Selwyn into the back of the car.
James climbs in next to him as Alice starts the car.
ALICE
He’s committed to his cause.
JAMES
I know. He won’t defect.
ALICE
We’ll see. Give him a few weeks and
he may be more agreeable.
JAMES
We’ll have to do this ourselves
too, won’t we?
ALICE
No one can know. If the Order
knows, then the mole will know that
they’re compromised.
JAMES
Hope he’s not too committed to his
cause.
ALICE
As I say, we’ll leave him in a cell
for a few weeks.
JAMES
Anywhere safe we can keep him?
ALICE
I’ve a few ideas.
She begins to drive away.
The Selwyn family home is entirely up in flames and James
watches as they drive away.

INT. ORDER HEADQUARTERS, MEETING ROOM - NIGHT

Alastor sits in a chair as Lily paces around the room. Sirius
and Remus are sat on a sofa next to the fireplace, that
Sirius occasionally places another small log on.
LILY
Why wasn’t I kept in the loop?
66.

ALASTOR
Why do you think, Lily? Need to
know, that’s why. Not everyone can
be in on the full operation. It
helps to keep our enemy guessing.
And Severus might well have guessed
had you known.
LILY
I had a right to know!
ALASTOR
You know as well as I that he was
never going to defect! He’s one of
Voldemort’s new favourites.
LILY
You sent me in as bait?
ALASTOR
More or less.
LILY
What did you want him for?
ALASTOR
Leverage and information. If anyone
knows his master’s location, it’s
him.
LILY
You don’t ever get to do this to me
again.
Beat.
ALASTOR
Fair enough, Lily.
She storms out.
Alastor sighs.
SIRIUS
Now what?
ALASTOR
I’ll have to get back to you on
that one.
SIRIUS
We almost had him. And Bartemious
too.
67.

ALASTOR
Almost isn’t good enough.
Alastor leaves.
REMUS
Are you alright?
SIRIUS
Sure. Are you?
REMUS
I’ll be fine, after I’ve slept for
a few dozen hours.
SIRIUS
I doubt they’ll think we’ve earned
it.
REMUS
We should have told Lily.
SIRIUS
Don’t you start.
REMUS
We should have, Sirius.
SIRIUS
We couldn’t risk it. We did the
right thing.
REMUS
And a load of good it did us.
SIRIUS
We could have captured him if-
REMUS
This is not her fault.
Pause.
SIRIUS
No. I know.
REMUS
We’ll get another chance.
SIRIUS
They’re going to retaliate, soon.
REMUS
They’d be stupid not to.
68.

SIRIUS
I’m sorry about what happened.
REMUS
You don’t need to apologise.
SIRIUS
Yes, I do.
REMUS
I’ll be fine. You did what you had
to do.

INT. ALBUS' SAFE HOUSE, BASEMENT

Selwyn sits on a simple bed, behind a wall of magic. There is
no other furniture in his improvised prison. There is a
small, plastic cup for him, next to his bed.
JAMES
I’ll provide the food.
ALICE
Nothing fancy.
JAMES
Bread?
ALICE
We don’t want him to enjoy his
stay. It’s not a holiday.
JAMES
How long do we keep him for
before... escalating things?
ALICE
We’ll play it by ear.
JAMES
Have you done this sort of thing
before?
ALICE
A few times.
JAMES
Okay.
ALICE
I’ve kept informants here before.
And defectors for questioning. But
they were all here willingly.
69.

JAMES
You any good at potion brewing?
ALICE
Not particularly.
JAMES
Need to ask one of your contacts to
procure us some veritaserum.
ALICE
Alright.
JAMES
After that, could try the imperius
curse.
ALICE
Are you sure?
JAMES
I’m comfortable with that one.
ALICE
Alright. You get some rest. I’ll
see what I can do about the
veritaserum.
She disapparates.
Selwyn looks at James.
SELWYN
You think that will do you any
good?
JAMES
We’ll see, won’t we?
SELWYN
I’ll tell you nothing.
JAMES
Mm.
SELWYN
Little James Potter. Oh, if you
only knew.
JAMES
Knew what?
70.

SELWYN
Well, that’d be telling, wouldn’t
it?
James laughs.
JAMES
Bless you for trying. But maybe you
should get some sleep and try again
tomorrow. Because this is a very
poor performance.
SELWYN
They’ll come for me.
JAMES
They’ll never find you.
SELWYN
They’d never abandon me.
JAMES
I feel sorry for you. I’m not sure
whether it’s naivety or ignorance -
but they will not be coming for
you. They don’t know where you are,
they don’t know how to find you,
they don’t even know if you’re
still alive. You’re so terrified of
betraying your cause, or perhaps
it’s your fear of what we’re going
to do to you-
He stops.
JAMES (CONT’D)
You know what? I’m tired too.
Ignore me.
James walks over to an armchair and collapses into it.
SELWYN
James! I’ll kill you when I-
James flicks his wand and another layer to the magical
barrier, so that no sound can come from the other side.
Selwyn continues to shout at James, realising after a minute
that he cannot hear him. Selwyn tries punching the barrier,
but it does nothing. He collapses on his bed and turns his
back on James and the rest of the room.
James falls asleep in the armchair.
71.

INT. DEATH EATER HEADQUARTERS - NIGHT

VOLDEMORT (52) sits in an armchair. LUCIUS MALFOY (25) sits
in another armchair close by whilst Regulas and Severus stand
in front of Voldemort.
VOLDEMORT
To say that I am disappointed,
would be a momentous
understatement.
SEVERUS
My lord-
VOLDEMORT
(looking at Regulas)
I do not speak to you, Severus. But
to the person who did fail me.
REGULAS
She caught us off-guard.
VOLDEMORT
She’s a filthy mudblood! You should
have had the better of such a
disgusting-
Severus shows no emotion.
VOLDEMORT (CONT’D)
And yet - she did best you. They’re
children. You should have made
short work of them. You, Severus
and Bartemious. You should not
underestimate them.
He sighs.
VOLDEMORT (CONT’D)
Bold of them to attempt to recruit
you, don’t you think, Severus?
SEVERUS
Perhaps.
VOLDEMORT
Mm. No matter. They don’t know what
we’re planning. We must redouble
our efforts, recruit more to our
cause - and I think it would be
prudent to take a page from their
book. We should try to recruit some
of their own. By any means
necessary. Lucius?
72.

LUCIUS
My lord?
VOLDEMORT
How are we progressing with the
other ministers?
LUCIUS
It’s difficult to get close to many
of the higher-ups. But the seeds of
doubt are being sowed within many.
Millicent’s leadership will soon be
challenged, I feel.
VOLDEMORT
Good. You will need to be ready.
LUCIUS
I am.
Voldemort stands and walks out of the room.
SEVERUS
Regulas, with me.
LUCIUS
A moment, you two.
SEVERUS
What?
LUCIUS
If I might offer some advice.
SEVERUS
Of course.
LUCIUS
Do not let your personal feelings
interfere with your work again.
SEVERUS
They didn’t.
LUCIUS
Then why was she not captured or
killed?
SEVERUS
I was outnumbered.
LUCIUS
Two to one. Are you truly that
weak?
73.

SEVERUS
The dark lord under-
LUCIUS
The dark lord does not know of your
personal connection to your
adversaries tonight. I’m certain he
would have been far more
disappointed had he known of your
friendship with her.
SEVERUS
The failure was his.
He points at Regulas.
Regulas draws his wand.
LUCIUS
Now, now. Let us keep things civil.
You will both have your chance to
redeem yourselves.
REGULAS
How so?
LUCIUS
I have a job for you. Both of you.
REGULAS
What do you need me to do?
Lucius smiles at Regulas.
END.
