Maas:
A completion of 2 paksha, 30 tithis is called as maas.
Paksha:
Shukla / Krishna Paksha,
Tithi:
Prathama, Dwitiya, Tritiya.....etc..... The tithi present at the time of Sun rise is considered as the tithi till next Sun rise. But due to such an
assumption problems arise in determining the dates of various festivals & there is always a state of contradicton among variuos pandits in
different parts of the country regarding this. Due to which a festival is sometimes celebrated on two different dates in different parts of the
country. Also due to such a convention, sometimes a tithi gets repeated (which is called as Vridhi tithi) & sometimes it do not comes at all (also
called as Kshaya tithi).
Panchak:
A period of nearly five days every month during which Moon transits from Kumbha (or Aquarius) & Meen (or Pisces) rashis respectively.
According to the so called pandits, during this period breaking wood, travelling in south direction, making roof on house or shops, purchasing
furniture etc. is prohibited. If in somebody's house a person dies during this period then five wooden statues should also be burned alongwith
the dead body of that person.
Karan:
Karan is based upon tithi. It is half of a tithi. This way technically, a karan is said to be completed when the phase difference between the
positions of Sun & Moon becomes integral multiple of six.
There are 11 karans. Out of which the first seven karans are called as 'Char' (or variable) karans & the last four are called as 'Sthir' (or
constant) karans. Last four are called as 'Sthir' because they always come on second half of Krishna Paksh Chaturdashi, first half of
Aamavasya, second half of Aamavasya & first half of Shukla Paksh Pratipada.

Yog is said to be completed when the phase difference of the positions of Sun & Moon becomes multiple of 13° 20´.
There are 27 Yogs but they have no correlation with nakshatras or constellations.

According to this concept of so called pandits, travelling in some particular direction on some particular day is not considered as auspicious.
