1. How did the Enlightenment and American Revolution change the way people viewed their Score
relationship to their rulers?
A famous influence of public participation came from Ben Franklin, who
founded the Junto club (later the American Philosophical Society) in which
intellectuals met to discuss "any point of morals, politics, and natural philosophy". Below
are a couple of the questions posed weekly:

"Have you lately observed any defect in the laws, of which it would be proper to move the
legislature an amendment? Or do you know of any beneficial law that is wanting? "

"Have you lately observed any encroachment on the just liberties of the people? "

2. What were the two main compromises of the Constitutional Convention and how did they Score
affect the government? The Great Compromise allowed both large and small
states to agree to the Constitution without seriously diminishing their power
in Congress. The small-population states wanted a Congress with equal
representation from all states, and the large-population states wanted a Congress with
representation proportional to the number of residents of each state. Connecticut proposed
a two-house Congress with a House of Representatives based on population and a Senate
comprised of two members from each state, regardless of its population.
