Parti Concepts
Syzygy is the pair or connection of opposing things.
Such as white and black, the city and the countryside,
• Syzygy or the sun and the moon. It also can refer to when the
planets align. Such as the sun, moon, and earth. The
preliminary sketch is of the alignment of 3 squares,
each a different size. The squares also have the
contrasting colors of black and white. This is a
concept that would influence my design choices. I
would use a lot of black and white for the opposing
colors and look for ways to use the idea of the planets
aligning.

• Divergent
Divergent is about being different. It is about
something standing out, or things radiating from a
common point to go different directions. The
preliminary sketch is a circle with lines radiating
out of it. This would be a design motif that I
would try to incorporate as much as possible
throughout the space.

• Geometric Geometric is related to geometry in which it

has basic lines and shapes. The preliminary
sketch for this is a group of hexagons. I like
the idea of a lot of different, and unique,
geometric patterns used throughout the space.
I think that there are a lot of options.
Syzygy

I want to incorporate a lot of black and

white elements throughout the entire
design to incorporate the idea of pairing
the opposing colors. I like the black and
white flooring in the picture above, and
the coffered ceiling that is painted black to
contrast against the typical white ceiling.
To go along with the idea of the planets
aligning, I want to use chandeliers that are
in a round shape hanging in groups like
the picture to the right and find other
ways to incorporate the aligning of
planets in the design with different
accents. I also love the black chairs against
the white bar, and the mood the lighting
gives off by having the under-bar lights.
Divergent
• I would like to incorporate the idea of lines radiating from
a single point. I would try to incorporate similar artwork to
the one to the right, and the chandelier. I would like to do a
unique table like the coffee table in the dining areas to keep
the theme throughout the building. I want accents on the
wall and ceilings to show something different from the rest
of the room. I like the picture above where it keeps with
the theme of radiating from a point with the wood planks,
and where the wall has wood planks in a somewhat circular
shape.
Geometric

• I would like to incorporate as

many unique, geometric
accents as possible. I like the
idea of a unique design on the
wall, ceilings, and even how
the floor is laid out. I want the
geometric accents in the little
details, such as the chandeliers,
and even the tables. In the
picture to the left I really like
the unique bar that bulges out
at different points.
Design Concept &
Final Parti
Diagram
For my final design concept I am going
with the idea of syzygy. I love how the
contrast between the black and white looks
and think it would help give it a high-end
look. I also want to incorporate little
accents in the lights, side tables, and wall
accents that go with the idea of the planets
aligning. With the contrast in the colors I
plan to have the design look very sharp
and clean. I even want to find ways to
incorporate other opposing ideas such as
country versus city, or the sun and the
stars. The parti diagram for this shows the
contrast between black and white when
paired by each other. I feel it really draws
your eye to certain things because the
contrast helps it stick out.
Base Drawings
Floor Plan

For my final floor plan I wanted the main areas to be really opened. I tried to keep the spaces divided
by what the customers would use most, and then the work areas separate, so that customers wouldn’t
have to travel far. I went for square tables in the dining area so that they could be connected and
made into tables for 6 as needed. I tried to keep the manager’s office and private dining separated so
that they don’t hear too much noise. The original shell of the building was not changed at all.
Reflected
Ceiling Plan

For the space I wanted a good

amount of light because a lot of the
paint and furniture will be black. The
coffered ceiling over the main dining
area will be painted black, and the rest
of the ceiling will be white. I have
pendants hanging over each table in
clusters from 1-3. There is recessed
lighting throughout as well to help
lighten up the area. With a ceiling
height at 9’6. In the private dining
rooms, and over the bar, I have
clusters of pendant lights hanging to
reflect the idea of the planets aligning.
For the bathroom and kitchen I am
doing recessed fluorescent lighting to
help give plenty, even, light
throughout the space.
Elevations

Bar Elevation Entry Elevation

This is the view of the front of the bar. It is a base of white shiplap This is the couch against the wall in the entry. With the entry being the first thing guests
wood, and then the triangle tiles are black. I carried the black see when they walk in, I wanted to make a statement. On the back of this wall are black
triangle tiles where the bottle display shelves are to tie it all in. I panels that are 39” x 25” The thing that makes this wall unique is that some of the panels
chose to do the wood and tile to incorporate the idea of opposites, would bump out at the bottom or top, and along that they’d have LED lights. This will
in this case, country and city. Above the bar I have pendants hanging
that are sphere shaped and made of glass to bring in the idea of the give a cool illusion and help set the mood. The couch is from B&B Italia and is black
planets aligning but not add too much visual weight. leather.

Exit Passage
Ways &
Distances

This picture indicates the exit passageways, with distances that added together
will get the maximum travel distance, as well will indicate the distance between
the two passageways. I didn’t add any doors because we weren’t able to, but
there are two exits from the original building shell.
ADA
Compliance

This is the enlarged plan of the

bathrooms. They are both ADA
compliant. There is a few 5’ turn
radius’ in both bathrooms. There is
the ADA stall that has enough
space to turn, grab bars, and a 36”
door. For the sinks in both there is
clear space for a wheelchair to pull
up to the sink and be able to turn
around to exit the bathroom
