Low Rank 2 scheduled ratio due to Wrong Transmission setting

1【Problem Description】

While checking network Y as part of a throughput improvement project witnessed that the drive throughput
and OSS throughput in of a major airport site is very less. Also customer complaints about low throughput in
airport premises.

2【Handling Process】

All relevant counters were collected from U2000 and was analyzed using ERAN FMA.

Drive test was conducted using Genex Probe and was analyzed using Genex Assistant.

UDP Packet injection test was conducted in U2000.

3【Cause】

 During the airport drive we observed very less throughput in airport premises (outside airport and
car parking area).

 An broad parameter audit and KPI analysis was conducted and it was identified that FEGE RX port
max throughput was not crossing 20Mbps.

Formula for FEGE Max RX speed = MAX("VS.FEGE.RxMaxSpeed")

 To confirm the issue is in transmission, a packet injection test was directed where we push mock
packets generated within the enodeb to test UE.

 As shown in the below chart, in drive test kit a max of 45Mbps throughput was achieved (SINR avg.15)
during the test.

 But at the same location, when data was downloaded from FTP server/ youtube etc. a max of only
7Mbps throughput was achieved.

 DL grant was also less when data was downloaded from public servers. This denotes that there wasn’t
enough data in enodeb to schedule to the user.

 Thus we confirmed that the issue is in Transmission Bandwidth.

4【Solution】

 Airport site was .working on SDH Media (20 Mbps). So we recommended for bandwidth
enhancement. Bandwidth provisioning was done transmission team, on xx-xx-xxxx and after the
activity transmission port speed increased and air interface throughput also increased.

 As shown in the chart below, after 20th hour we can see that the transmission port speed increased
to around 100Mbps and per user throughput also increased. In DBH stats of airport site , there is 100%
increase in traffic and per user throughput.

5【Suggestions and Summary】

 In the cases of low throughput in drive KPIs, it’s important to check DL grant value along with
other performance parameters. DL grant value and OSS stats (PRB utilization) will help us to
understand whether there could be transmission related issue.

 Transmission issues can be confirmed in such cases by conducting a packet injection test.

 FEGE RX Max speed trend should be maintained and monitored for all sites in order to track and
resolve transmission issues.
